PHOTO INDEX: GOP LOGO AND WILK RADIO HOST SUE HENRY WHO WOULD CHARACTERIZE SARAH PALIN'S COMMENTS ON SENATOR OBAMA AS "ALL HAT.....NO CATTLE!"
GAME ON!!!
The GOP came out swinging tonight. An array of speakers that started with Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Rudy Guiliani and climaxing with Vice Presidential nominee Palin tore into the Democratic Party Wednesday night. Palin praised McCain as a "true profile in courage" compared with Obama. "In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change," she said. Palin, whose youngest child has Down syndrome, also promised that families of special needs children will have "a friend and advocate in the White House." As she took the stage, the crowd waved banners reading "Hockey moms for Palin" and shouted, "We love you, Sarah." At the end of the speech, McCain came out amid raucous cheers and said, "Don't you think we made the right choice for the next vice president?" The crowd agreed that he had.
Palin threw down the gauntlet taking on Obama, Biden and even the national media. The experience debate keeps going on but in my opinion, the more the national media and the Obama camp harps on that issue, they give more firepower to the GOP. Palin's speech bordered on ridicule of Obama's Community Organizer background. This is a woman who can turn that debate on its heels and taking on the media was a bold strategic move. Scranton also was brought into the equation tonight again when Palin said, "You can't say one thing in Scranton and another in California" referring to Senator Obama's remarks about guns, religion and small towns at a Golden State fundraiser. Personally, you have to stack her governmental resume up to leaders of the past. In previous posts I've compared her experience to that of Spiro Agnew who became Vice President in 1968. There's another revered politico from these parts who was a one term Congressman, then was midway through his term as Governor when he decided to run for President in 1964. His name was Bill Scranton. So the experience issue will not wash. I've spoken to many females the last few days on the net who were former Clinton supporters, and while they don't agree with Palin on core issues, they like her but more importantly trust McCain. This is going to get very interesting.
