SCOLLO FACT CHECKING

This week businessman Phil Scollo released a claim-by-claim fact check, complete with citations to the real record, of Tom Marino’s first political ad of the season. The ad is less of a traditional political attack ad and more of an attack on the truth.
Claim #1) He says he'll save Medicare but voted twice to take away the Medicare guarantee that millions of Pennsylvanians have already paid for. (Daily Item, by Marcia Moore, August 15, 2012; Congressional Record/Ryan Budget votes)
Claim #2) He says he'll stop cuts to Medicare but voted twice for $716 billion in cuts to Medicare. (Politifact, August 15, 2012 http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/aug/15/stephanie-cutter/ryans-plan-includes-700-billion-medicare-cuts-says/)
Claim #3) He says he prosecuted scam artists who prey on seniors but was a defense attorney for a convicted felon, Sean Healy, who defrauded Pennsylvania seniors and families out of $20 million in a Bernie Madoff/Ponzi scheme. As his attorney, Marino pulled strings and negotiated--with his old U.S. Attorney's office on the other side of the table--a lighter sentence for the felon. (Patriot-News, 10/17/09) “Pennsylvania seniors depend on their hard earned retirement savings and on Medicare, but seniors can’t depend on Tom Marino,” said Phil Scollo. “Everyone knows Mr. Marino has the money and the Washington connections to run fancy TV ads that distort his record but hardworking people deserve the truth from Tom Marino and they deserve to hear it straight from his mouth. He voted twice to end the Medicare guarantee and he should have the courage to stand up in a debate on Medicare and explain why.”
Phil Scollo left Wall Street to start a small business in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He learned hard work and public service early from a New York City Fire Fighter, his father. His business, a management-consulting firm, has served all types of organizations from global corporations to small businesses and government agencies. Phil has lived in Dingman Township, Pennsylvania since 1998 with his wife, Karen. He is the proud father of three children. A summa cum laude graduate of St. John’s University, Phil holds a B.S. in Government and Politics.

The problem is that the people in his Congressional District voted a great moderate Congressman to bring in Marino and I'm afraid that even with his costic voting record, he doesn't even need his lying ads, those hard rock Republicans in his district will vote Republican with very few exceptions.
