The LuLac Edition #2762, November 1st, 2014
Thursday night Blogfest was going at a pretty good pace but then at 6:45PM the image of “The Survivalist” came on the screen. After that discussion centered on the ending of the 48 day manhunt for the person who killed one State Trooper and injured another. However before that happened the talk centered around the Governor’s race as well as the contested Representative races in both Luzerne and Lackawanna County. As always, Blogfest was a great time for the people who read, write and try to add all the words and thoughts up. Thanks to all who attended.
The recent story that a nursing mother bear was killed along with her children because she was on a runway at the Wilkes Barre Scranton International Airport just shows you how little common sense the people in charge there possess. There were options. They could have used a tranquilizer gun and maybe shooed the group back into the woods. The wildlife officials say that could not have been an option. Fair enough but surely there was another way.
We aren’t Newark, Reagan or O’Hare. Plus there were Traffic Controllers that could have routed a plane with a few circles around LuLac land. I have said that I don’t mind paying taxes for sound good government and their employees. The airport and its crew have lived up to their reputation. They used to be regarded as ineffective and dumb. Now you can add heartless to the list. Outgoing Airport Director Barry Centini called the incident “unfortunate”. Ya think? Meanwhile this story has gone national and international once more making our area look like the dunderheads of the world. One of my coworkers said it best, “People think we invented stupid here!”
So I’m glad there wasn’t a fashion disaster that put the Congressman in just a shirt with no tie. After all, he has always marched to the beat of his own drummer. Ted Williams eschewed a tie for his entire life even going into the Baseball Hall tieless. So I’m okay with his decision to show up as he wanted to for a major debate. He is after all in a GOP district running against two very articulate but underfunded candidates. Hell he could dress like Fred Flinstone if he wanted. (Oh wait, Fred wears a tie!)
But Mrs. LuLac made a good point as we discussed this at breakfast the next morning. She said, “You know my father was a coal miner and your father was a railroader..but they always wore suits when it was appropriate.” Too bad Alex and Jake never ran for Congress. At least they’d have the wardrobe.
