STORY INSULTING TO PEOPLE IN THIS AREA

Last week the Citizen’s Voice had a front page headline regarding the study done by Google including this area as one of the most racist in the country. A reader of the paper and this blog as well as a Face book friend of mine had something to say about that. Here’s Deanna Innamorati Farrell’s piece from published in yesterday’s Voice.

How dare The Citizens’ Voice and Bridget Costello from King’s College insult the wonderful, accepting people of this area.
The bare headline on the front page of April 30 newspaper “www.racism Wilkes-Barre/Scranton media market among most racist, according to web search study.”
This area has been chosen for relocation by both good and bad people of color largely because of our magnanimous nature and partly because of our naiveté. We have been rewarded with one of the highest murder rates per capita, in the nation, vandalism and drug dealers. Just today, as I’m writing this letter there has been another deadly shooting in the once safe and comfortable city of Wilkes-Barre.
Are we racist? Is racism the reason we predominantly voted to campaign, fund and elect Obama? Yes, we wanted so badly to see a black man become president. A man who we thought was no different than us. But sadly, some of us lived to regret it. Crime has exploded and race relations are worse than they have ever been in recent times. These events have been aided by the fact that the media and the venerable academia and your newspaper incites.
Who cares what the Google search shows? Do you actually know who did the searching? And if you do, what kind of invasion of privacy is this?
Diversity isn’t compatible in most areas of the world because people like yourself try to micromanage everyone’s behavior and force lifelong cultures to merge.
Is the title of “sociology professor” supposed to be impressive? Is that what’s supposed to make Ms. Costello’s opinion profound? I sincerely hope she doesn’t damage the minds of the students in her classes, especially those whose parents have paid their hard-earned money for tuition.
Not too far into the future, as demonstrated by some disabled, such as those with ALS, who communicate electronically, people like Ms. Costello will be capable of monitoring people’s thoughts. They will be able to decide just by what the subject is thinking, what kind of health care they deserve, whether they should live or die, what colleges their children belong in and where we all should live.
They’ll be able to determine if they had any criminal thoughts towards neighbors, children, spouses, and decide whether or not to take away their children based on their findings.
Far-fetched? I don’t think so. Judging by the results of their monitoring on the Internet, that day is not far off. Citizens, be aware. Your rights are greatly diminished now and are disappearing fast. Yes, we do need our own citizens’ voices.
