TOMATOES AND SHAMROCKS

PART 2

Had a conversation yesterday with former Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo regarding the decision by Pittston City Council to have the Pittston Tomato Festival acquire the parade as a subcommittee.
Lombardo noted that the parade is a superb event and right now there is a need for more structure. Pointing out that not a few individuals can do everything, it is important that the parade gets more structure. Lombardo pointed out that the perfect model is the Tomato Festival which on the surface appears that it runs on auto pilot. But behind that is a well based structure that can protect the foundations of it but more importantly insure its continued success.
To that end, Lombardo who has always been a builder of bridges in his time of public service met with Ginger Murphy and plans to meet with Mr. Pat Toole to iron things out.
If anything this association will take responsibility of a few details, and at least in my estimation give it some structure.
Lombardo said that when you google Pittston there are many positive things and he hopes this dust up will not be seen as a negative.
As for the e mail he sent out and copied to others, Lombardo quoted my buddy that old capitalist himself Joe Valenti by saying “Only mold grows in the dark”.
Good luck to all parties involved.

GOVERNOR WOLF:
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
So the GOP controlled House decided to introduce Governor Tom Wolf to the way things are done in Harrisburg. Through gimmicks and half measures. The Governor called it a stunt. The GOP Leadership combined all of Wolf’s proposed, key word here, proposed revenue changes. It is nothing but a way to try to instill fear into the debate of what should be a discussion on how to fix Harrisburg
The Republican-sponsored tax amendment was defeated unanimously Monday as the two parties fought over the Wolf's budget plan with less than  a month to go before the fiscal year ends. And see this is where you have to really rail at the Legislature. You know with a new Governor there will be a discussion, yet you saunter back in June to get something done. It almost is a guarantee of failure.
Republicans say the vote shows a lack of support for the Wolf’s first budget, and the Dems say it is a gimmick. Wolf calls it a stunt.
The majority Republicans introduced the current year's budget as a stop gap, to meet rules in the budget process. The Democrats introduced the Governor’s plan and the GOP forced a vote on the total proposed increases.
The truth is that Wolf’s plan is a tax shifting of billions of dollars to reduce property taxes and increase state spending through taxing the extraction of natural gas from the Marcellus shale, raising cigarette taxes and taxing cigars and snuff
The plan designed by Wolf was to help middle class families. And we know full how the GOP in Pennsylvania feels about middle class families. They yes them to death but screw them in the end.
More on this to come.

I can't say I admire Lombardo's guts but I do admire the way he takes any situation and makes it work for him. As an interested third party with no connection to the parade, it is wonderful and a credit to a handful. It seems the Lombardo family just can't see an event in Pittston which they do not have full control. If you take a serious look at the Pittston Tomato Festival, it remains riding in the work done by the original committee. The differnece is that Lombardo's gang ran it into the ground. There are no non-profit organizations and the only vendors are professtional. They have completely lost sight of the original p;urpose which I'm told was to change the image of the voter fraud capital of the world and the home of the Mafia in the US. Now there are no non profits and the crowds grow smaller each year simply because the Lombardo gang has forced the vendors to charge high prices to cover the crazy fees Lombardo charges them for their rental sace. There is little if any truth in the telephone conversation you had with Lombardo, the man just cn't help himself and deal with the truth.

Wow that's one silver tongue devil. So Mr Lombardo is offering some structure. Hmmm, as I've been watching this thing play out in the press I have to say that my family and I enjoyed the parade very much, both of them. So what lack of structure was there? Also reading this strongly worded email I have to wonder how you smooth over that type of disrespect. Love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.

Lombardo said thier actions are going to give some structure to the parade committee? What nerve of the guy, who siad it needed structure? There is a president, VP, Secty. and a reasurer. Two parades went off withut a hitch, the parade committee raised enough money to cover all their costs and Mr Ego himself said only mold groes in the dark. The onyh dark in this situation is the Lombardo's and their insatiable thirst for power and control. I'm surprised that one phone call and he has you eating out of his hands. You went from tearing him a new butt to wishing both sides good luck..... Both sides? That indicates you now see no problem with the Tomto Festival taking over the St Patricks Parade so the Scranton parade committee now needs to fear the ScantonItalian Festival group taking them over. That was the fastest swing I ever saw and I didn't even see the pitch. Guess you now belong to the Major League association of Switch Hitters.

"taxing the extraction of natural gas from the Marcellus shale, raising cigarette taxes and taxing cigars and snuff"
Riiight, Taxes get passed on to the consumer (Middle and lower class). It also makes the gas less competitive. Raising tobacco taxes? Again, hits middle and lower classes PLUS provides inducement to QUIT further eroding revenue.
Same old song and dance. Thought you were experienced enough by this time to see it Yonk.

IN RESPONSE
How do you account for the non profits that are there to raise money?

They have completely lost sight of the original p;urpose which I'm told was to change the image of the voter fraud capital of the world and the home of the Mafia in the US.
IN RESPONSE
You don't think that image has been cleared up? The only person bringing up voter fraud is my friend l.A. Tarone and yelling about Bill Stinson who was a State Senator from Philly.
You think the Hazleton Funfest Parade gets negative comments because of Mike Conahan?

the crowds grow smaller each year
IN RESPONSE
When are the crowds sparse? At 11:30 at night? I have issues walking and the times I was there I had to be very careful because of the crowds.

My two cents have to be with Mr Argo, if it ain't broke don't fix it! Knowing Lombardo as most of us do, the structure he's speaking of is the oversight of the tomato festival executive committee. If that's the case, which I'm sure most of us can agree it is, what nerve of this group. These folks do the work, do an amazing job, and the tomato group take it.

Where's the justice in this situation? So far I don't see any. I see an arrogant few who have no right to do what they're doing. Ego and politics have no place in the parade.

I leave on this note. I hope this action does not stand, and I truly hope the Irish parade doesn't end up like the lack luster tomato fest parade. I think we can all agree the Saint Patrick’s Parade is 10 times better, and has hands down made the tomato fest parade look like small potatoes.

Yonk, If you want info on the origins of the parade,do what I did, I spoke to one of the originators to learn how it came about, who it was to serve, what the purpose was and that person is the same person the Lombardo's seem obsessed with, I speak of Wil Toole. Maybe it bothers them that Wil was at the very founding of the Tomato Festival and now his son is at the very founding of the St Pat's Parade. Petty jealousy can destroy any kind of worthwhile event. And by the way, you would be hard put to find one of the small church or community groups aka non profits still taking part in the tomato festival. They were driven out with the high cost of space rental and the higher cost of products are driving the people away. So how did former mayor Mike Lombardo talk his way into your heart and mind and got you to ease up on his outrageous actions, sorry, not his alone, his cousin Atty Mike Lombardo was the real culprit in all of this.
