The LuLac Edition #3716, February 22nd, 2018

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

You had to be heartless if you weren’t impressed with the passion of the young people who took on cowardly politicians who have been bullied by the NRA. For too long, politicians have taken money from The NRA because they are afraid to take a stand.
Having grown up in The Vietnam War era where I saw college students protest a war in Southeast Asia, I see parallels between that era of protest and this one. I have never been prouder of a generation than I have this past weekend when the kids gave it to the man. I use the word loosely when I refer to the REPUBLICAN establishment as "The Man". This time though, "The Man" as the establishment was referred to back in the day is a puny, cowardly man with no guts, no principles but…..a lot of money from The NRA. Plus the right wing Talk Show hosts are now saying the kids are being coached. Callers to shows are whining "Where are there parents?" Maybe if these blowhards used critical thinking they'd figure out that what parents said after Sandy Hook didn't work!

THE REPUBLICAN WEENIE COWARDS

A few things happened that will not surprise you at all concerning gun control and Republicans. A few items of note. Granted it came from the Neanderthals in Florida but here goes.
1. A staff member from Representative Shawn Walker's office stated that the children/students on TV were not really classmates of those killed. But were in fact “actors” who were sent to cause trouble. Again, typical Republican LIES.
2. Marco Rubio took over 3 million dollars from The NRA. Can you imagine him giving in to their pressure? Nope.
3. The Florida state House on Tuesday rejected a ban on many semiautomatic guns and large capacity magazines as dozens of survivors of last week's school shooting headed to the state Capitol to turn their grief into political action. Lawmakers voted down a motion to consider the ban during a session that opened with a prayer for the 17 people killed by a former student last Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The vote in the Republican-dominated body was 36-71.
Stoneman Douglas students in the gallery of the Capitol during the vote appeared stunned,
They should not. This is the reality kids. This is your Republican party telling you your friend’s death don’t matter and neither do you.
Act accordingly.

TRUMP BUDGET AND ENTITLEMENTS
ATTENTION SENIORS, TRUMP’S BUDGET IS COMING FOR YOUR MEDICARE BENEFITS

All those baby boomers who took up the cross of Donald Trump, might find themselves crucified by their great leader. If they aren't on disability or SS yet, they will be in for a big surprise when and if The Trump budget takes effect. Trump released his 2019 budget last week, and it included $266 billion in cuts to Medicare, which provides health insurance to 58 million Americans 65 and older and people with certain disabilities.
Howard Gleckman, a contributor for Forbes, breaks down the proposed changes:
What Trump’s Budget Would Mean For Seniors
— Medicare drug benefit would be restructured to reduce costs for some beneficiaries but raise them for others.
“Trump has proposed eliminating cost-sharing for seniors with very high prescription drug costs, but at the same time he’d increase out-of-pocket expenses for many others, especially those who have significant costs but have not quite reached the threshold where medicine would be free ($8,418 this year).”
— A freeze on most funding under the Older Americans Act, which provides money for social and nutrition services for seniors including Meals on Wheels. While the proposal has a small increase for food programs, it would cut funding for disability programs by about 30 percent,
Gets rid of federal block grants that states use to fund programs for seniors.
— A new six-week family leave program would be created. But it would exclude people caring for frail parents or other relatives with disabilities.
“Each time this proposal surfaces, it focuses only on parents of newborns (and sometimes adoptees) but ignores the needs of families caring for aging parents and other relatives with disabilities,” Gleckman writes. “Families are not just parents and babies. There are millions of adult children—usually daughters–who put their paid jobs at risk by taking time off to help frail parents or disabled siblings.”
— The elimination of the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which provides job training to low-income job seekers ages 55 and older.
It’s more of the same from his first budget introduced last year: In his first budget, Trump to struggling seniors: You’ll be on your own
Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works, wrote this in response to Trump’s FY19 budget proposal: “Despite Donald Trump’s numerous promises during his presidential campaign to not cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid, he proposes to cut all three in his just-released budget. And not just by a little. He proposes cuts of over $1.8 trillion to the three programs. On top of that, he proposes to slash Meals on Wheels, home heating assistance, and other programs on which seniors rely. It is noteworthy that Republicans just passed, for almost the same price tag, a huge tax giveaway to their donors. So that’s the Republican plan: save money by gutting programs for the elderly and transfer the savings to the billionaire class.”
Who gets hurt?
Who gets hurt? Our neighbors, friends, and family.
•Working families who get help from SNAP to put food on the table.
•Elders dependent on Medicare for health care.
•Veterans and displaced workers seeking job training.
•Families applying to HUD for housing assistance.
•Every single person who's paid into Social Security.
•People relying on support for low-income home heating.

TRUMP BUDGET NIXES PUBLIC BROADCASTING AND BY EXTENSION THE ARTS

Trump's newly 2019 budget again proposes the elimination of funding for the three major entities that award federal funding for public broadcasting and the arts: the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The $4.4 trillion budget proposal is not much of a surprise to public TV and arts advocates, as Trump's 2018 budget also called for zeroing out such funding. Instead, funding survived, which is a testament to just how much of a wish-list the White House budget really is, as opposed to something that will actually gain traction on Capitol Hill.
The rationale that the White House makes for eliminating the federal funding is that the outlay can be made up for by private donations and grants at the state level.
Private donations? By who? Deadbeats like Trump?
"CPB funding comprises about 15% of the total amount spent on public broadcasting, with the remainder coming from non-federal sources, with many large stations raising an even greater share," the budget states. "This private fundraising has proven durable, negating the need for continued federal subsidies.
"Services such as PBS and NPR, which receive funding from CPB, could make up the shortfall by increasing revenues from corporate sponsors, foundations, and members. In addition, alternatives to PBS and NPR programming have grown substantially since CPB was first established in 1967, greatly reducing the need for publicly-funded programming options," the budget reads.
Yeah I worked in Public TV and radio and membership and funding is very tough to come by. But members do support local community entities both on an individual and corporate basis. The fact that this REPUBLICAN administration thinks that these things can make up the shortfall is ignorant and disgusting. Just like the man whose name this budget bears. (LuLac, CNN)

BEHREN'S SIGNING PARTY A SUCCESS

In the 119th Justin Behren's is making another run at State Representative. He had a wildly successful signing party the otter night (last week) and is poised to take on the Democratic incumbent Gerald Mullery again. From what I hear Mullery had a signing party too but since his campaign never sent any information before or after, oh well.

Here's Justin along with his wife Lisa with GOP candidate for Governor Scott Wagner.

WAGNER-BARTOS BLITZ PENNSYLVANIA’S SUNDAY SHOW CIRCUIT
2018 gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner and his running mate Jeff Bartos (Wagner’s first and only choice for the position) hit Pennsylvania's Sunday political talk show circuit for their first television interviews since each of them received the Republican Party of Pennsylvania’s endorsement. Wagner and Bartos appeared together on “Pennsylvania Newsmakers” and “Face the State,” where they discussed their decision to form a ticket, their agenda to change the status quo in Pennsylvania, and how the campaign has come together thus far. Wagner also appeared on “This Week in Pennsylvania,” where he talked about earning the Republican party’s endorsement and the case against Tom Wolf.

So, if people don't think gun control is the answer they are a cowards?

SHOUTING THAT GUN CONTROL IS THE ANSWER DOESN'T MAKE IT THE TRUTH!

Can you imagine if we attacked the first amendment with as much zeal as the second is attacked? While there are libel laws in place, there is no law preventing a newspaper from publishing anything they want. The consequences are on the back end, after publication.

The cause is much deeper than access to guns, but those who think gun control is the only answer have such tunnel vision, they are unable to see any other options, or actually, that there are no options until we accept the cause.

The root cause is the United States is a violent society, a violence that is deep rooted and is rotting us to our very core, and corrupting and killing our very young - and, this is nothing new.

Are you aware that the largest school massacre was not a mass shooting? And that it occurred decades, nearly a century, ago?

Emotional arguments are understandable, but making decisions based upon emotion rarely produces an effective solution.

I do apologize for trying to discuss this with reason and rational thought, and as another poster had stated, nuance, on a blog that seems to have abandoned any.

As information continues to trickle out on the mass murder in Florida, the failure of law enforcement is becoming more and more apparent. Good thing the FBI is spending resources investigating NCAA basketball instead of protecting citizens

Nuance? The bottom line here is that Trump is the instrument the Republican party is using to take away basic human rights. Like who you love, living a life with purpose as well as dignity and to be safe.
They couch their deception in the flag, the military, borders and freedom.
Yet they are the biggest freedom takers in this world.
Bottom line here is if you want nuance, go to ****ng NPR. Enjoy it because the GOP pricks are gutting that too.
I applaud Yonk for going after all of them but especially the Trump ites who don't understand anything else.
But go nuance your ass away and any Trump person will shit on you and your ideas.

Trump supporters and Trump haters have a few characteristics in common:
Ignorance
Hatred
Intolerance
Name calling
Limited ability to have thoughtful conversation
Seeing the world in black or white
The inability to see opinions other than their own
The inability to realize there is more than one cause to a problem, thus the inability to see there may be more than one solution
Lack of abstract thinking
...... I can go on and on. I laugh when Yonk or one of his Yonkers imply or infer that because I don't agree with their point of view or tactics that I am a Trump supporter.
I guess in the Yonk universe I am either with you or against you.

It seems this blog has embraced the adage, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

It sounds more and more like Donald J Trump here day by day. It has become a vehicle for Trump like rhetoric, stupidity, bullying and insolence.

The more you become like Trump, the more of a victory Trump has won.

1:22pm LOL, you should see the Facebook page. I love it. Nice to see someone stand up to the punks running our country.
Here's where you don't get it. The only way to defeat a bully is to knock him around. Period.
Go get 'em Yonk.

I look at this way. Everyone, or some seem to be upset that Yonk has resorted to tabloid like tactics. Fair enough but most have other observers of politics in this country.
This happened long before Trump when Obama was never given a chance from the get go. People forget that LuLac was no lover of Obama. But criticizing Obama was more gentleman like because he was a gentleman and like him or not, he had very good people working for him. So too did W.
But the combination of Republican resistance gave way to party domination. The sin if what both Trump and this Congress, in place since 2015 did....which is nothing.
That void led to Trump su[porters all frustrated telling you America should be great again./ Then we have people like Yonk who supported Republicans getting radicalized because of what is coming from this leadership. It's one thing to screw the American people, it's quite another to tell them you are NOT screwing them that insults their intelligence.
Thus the anger on both sides.
As far as LuLac, it has evolved and although I don't agree with some of the stuff I read hear, I don't think the behavior is Trump like.
But if offends, big deal.
At least it is a place to go for comments that used to be the purview of local newspapers.
For opinions on politics, true opinions, not talk radio, we got Borys Krawczeniuk and Yonki.
Deal with them or rant on Face book where you'll be in the same silo as Talk Radio.

IN RESPONSE

I just came back from church and the pastor repeated these words for the 4th week in a row.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
Sit on the sidelines in this perilous time and be nuanced and polite all you like. Watch as people who are contributing to society now have to hide because they are shamed.
Watch as basic services are cut to good people trying to make a life.
Watch as we have become the laughing stock of the world.
Watch as Germany is now regarded as the leader of the free world. 'Dolph must be enjoying that on from whatever hell he's in.
Watch as people who have paid into SS get less.
Watch veterans and minorities are routinely disparaged for sport.
I might not be the best of men but I am not ever going to let a bully and his amoral party do harm to my fellow man, woman and child.

Once again, you misrepresent so much and show a lack of understanding.

People do not pay into social security, that is a fallacy. Social Security is one generation caring for the previous. It is a pool of workers for each recipient. Even if people paid in, many receive far more than their contribution. If people "pay in" then should social security payouts cease when the amount put in is reached?

Many people on government services have never contributed to those services. There are generational recipients, while never doing a thing for that which they receive. I am not saying they do not need or deserve help, but don't misrepresent that they have contributed.

As far as the rest of the world. When the next crisis occurs, who do you think they will turn to? Germany? Please! No matter who the leader of the country, the United States leads. Nations who turned their back on us in our time of need, France during the Libya bombing comes to mind, run like scared children to us when they are threatened.

Unemployment is decreased, people have more money in their pocket, and less are dependent on the government for services, including health insurance. Is not only encouraging, but providing an opportunity for self-reliance really a bad thing? Or, is it bad because less people dependent on government may not vote the way you would like them to?

All of that aside, it isn't the Quixotesque condemnation of Trump that is wrong, because face it you, me and most are insignificant to him, it is your bullying of good people who simply have a different point of view and different opinions that has become so disheartening.

You are just as guilty as anyone in shaming people for their beliefs and trying to get them to hide. When you are called out on your tactics, you SHOUT, belittle, defame and bully. Like Trump and his supporters, you are so ensconced in your view of my way or the highway, that there is little room for growth in knowledge or understanding.

Perhaps it is age or infirmary that has changed you, but because you have changed doesn't make it a good change, or the right change. If anything, I feel sorrow for you - a great man has become small, and a great mind has become diminished.

You were a good man who has become that which you have always vehemently hated. I mourn the loss of what you were, and I weep for what you have become.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

This from a representative of the same church which denied the molestation of young boys by his fellow priests?

This from a representative of the same church which turned a deaf ear to the pleas of those young boys?

This from a representative of the same church which covered up the crimes against those young boys?

This from a representative of the same church which instead of getting treatment or punishment for those who assailed and assaulted those same young boys, simply moved the perpetrators to another locale, so they could assail and assault others?

This from a representative of the same church in which the current leader is casting doubt on another generation of young boys?

This from a representative of the same church which subjugates women to the same pedophile priests?

This from a representative of the same church which turned a blind eye to the horrors of the holocaust?

This from a representative of the same church which condemns people to eternal damnation simply because they are attracted and driven to love another of the same gender?

This from a representative of the same church which founded an inquisition that had hunted down and persecuted non-believers in a way that made the Romans' treatment of early Christians appear merciful?

This from a representative of the same church which organized crusades to loot the middle east and create conflict that exists to this day?

This from a representative of the same church which an organization must wear blinders to carry out its sworn mission to defend this institution that has harmed so many?

This from a representative of the same church which condemns wealth, yet preaches in tax-exempt palace like temples?

This from a representative of the same church which decries the treatment of poverty, all while sipping wine from golden goblets?

This from a representative of the same church which demands adherence to The Ten Commandments, all under the watchful eyes of graven images plastered upon the church walls and ceilings?

Perhaps your deep-rooted hypocrisy has arisen from an indoctrination by, and into, an evil which shrouds itself in the name of God.

I'm glad you said that because whenever I talked to the Trump-ites who are telling me how great America is and that the problems is entitlements, I tell them they are on one. They yell, "I paid into it!" But you know better soooooooooooooo..

Perhaps it is age or infirmary that has changed you.

IN RESPONSE

I'm 64, have battled medical issues, am a cancer survivor and do have aches and pains. Matter of fact I am in pain every day. But you don't hear my whining on FB or not showing up for something when I have a bump or bruise. But what has changed ME is the kindnesses, compassion and equality extended to me is not available to others in this society. But thanks for your compassion and worry.

Once again, you misrepresent so much and show a lack of understanding.

Not anymore. Not with this stupid son of bitch in charge! Oh, wait, was I being a "small man"?

I feel sorrow for you - a great man has become small, and a great mind has become diminished.

Great? You think too much of me.

This was edited because the person over and over again wrote the same sentence about church and sexual abuse. It was apologized for and still being dealt with.
But those comments are pretty good excuses for people too lazy to get up and go to church on Sunday.

The repetition was to make a point. It is sad that I took an hour or so of my time to research and contribute a comment only for you to simply not publish it, but lie about why you did not.
I did not focus solely on one topic, although I admit to being repetitious, because of the importance of said topic and using the same opening line to hammer home the point of catholic evil and hypocrisy.
If your were editing only because of repetition you would have published at least a few of the lines and the rest of the post.
You like to blame republicans for school shootings, are deniers such as yourself responsible for pedophile priests?
Additionally, I went back throughout the years, decades and centuries to cite other atrocities.
It is too bad you don't want factual information to be out there. Much like Trump, although instead of deeming it fake news, you edit or omit factual information that confronts your beliefs.
The apology rings hollow when the atrocities continue to occur and the Vicar of Christ remains in denial and attempts to silence and belittle the victims. The apology rings hollow because the catholic church continues oppression of free thought and free expression, which appears so do you.
I challenge you to allow the post to be approved unedited. I am sure most will disagree and take your point of view. Are you so weak in your faith, that you fear the facts?

I have a few things to just mention. I have been reading this blog since it first started years ago. So I speak from experience. At first, I thought this site was too wishy washy but I soon found that Yonki was just being pretty fair.
But this is not that time. Events have changed this country. Or should I say non events. There has been literally no action thanks to both parties. Everyone is frustrated. Other blogs have stopped completely content to throw up a few words on social media and call it "commentary". This man has been here for over a decade. So staying power is good. Criticism is good too. This site has had its share.
Let me list them. Yonki was making this a personal blog talking too much about himself.
Yonki was self promoting himself and the blog.
Yonki was a socialist. Yonki was in the tank for certain candidates. Yonki was too hard on the Judges in the scandal. Yonki made mean videos of them. On TV with Tarone, he was too easy on the Judges.
Yonki made a comment that was called out about Bush. There was an apology. Obama was going to be someone's Vice President. Even though he was "in the tank" for Wolf and endorsed him, he predicted Corbett would win.
I can go on and on listing chapter and verse. Like the news, blogs change. Not the person. I am stunned that some, a few, many, one, I don't really care choose to attack the messenger not because he is wrong but because he is getting down and dirty.
This is politics man. This is personal!
I'm sorry but I don't forgive the guy who started it by attacking a war vet. And I'm damn well thrilled that someone calls out their bullshit.
Despite editing a few comments, Yonki has given you more information and opinions from posters. You learned more about his life than any of you have a right to know. And to judge him by his posts about the President is just plain counter productive for all of us. I respect the sentiment but disagree with it.
I have come to the conclusion that this blog has become what it was accused of in the first place. Being all about Yonki. But ironically, as he has kept his head down and worked to give commentary, blistering or bland, now we want to debate or feel disappointed about the guy delivering it instead of the content.
The questions you should be asking about (and a few weeks ago I asked) is what is being promoted and what is missing!
This will be a big clue to where we end up in '18.
I'm done but may I refer you all to the article published Sunday on the gerrymandering.
That's content and for those who need the newest overused word, on LuLac and everywhere else, you can get your fix of nuance there.
Or not. All I know is I read this everyday and apparently so do the people who comment.
Keep the hits coming because I love to read the latest dust up on LuLac. I should drop cable, heyna?
