CARL KASELL

We could not let this one slide by. NPR Newsman and announcer, Carl Kasell passed away a few weeks ago. When I first started working at WVIA FM, there was no Morning Edition. We had “All Things Considered” but the Morning program was just a glint in the eye when I first started. Kasell came aboard in the mid 70s and lent his great voice to stories both big and small. Stories of importance and folly. He became the authoritative rock NPR needed at the time. Kasell had a second act for years with his participation in “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” the NPR News quiz heard Saturday mornings. His voice is on more than a few answering machines in America because he was the main prize for people who won those “Wait, Wait” contests. He was 84. Here’s a link to his story, from NPR. https://www.npr.org/2018/04/17/528656453/npr-newscaster-carl-kasell-dies-at-84-after-a-lifelong-career-on-air
