GRADING BIDEN, HOW IS HE DOING?

President Biden (Photo: LuLac archives)

A cousin of mine recently reached out to me and was wondering how as a rabid Democratic ally of Joseph Biden, she was wondering how I thought the administration was doing.  Here are my thoughts:

How do I think Biden and Harris are doing? I think right now they are getting a lot of slack because the bar was so damn low. I give them high marks for bringing back “normal” after 4 years of histrionics that would put a needy teenage girl to shame. When we go to bed at night, we have no fear of waking up to a tantrum. The two have brought boring back as a good quality.

But that’s in the eye of the beholder. Some people like drama in their President’s. In my single days, if there was a crazy gorgeous woman out there, she’d find me!  Like calm in a long-term relationship or marriage, well that’s a plus. But here’s the score card:

The Insurrection: Biden was measured and cogent in his response to a failed coup. No whining, no crying, just a statement of fact that was on video for all to see. A-

Cognitively: Those who said Biden was senile were wrong. You can’t say he’s going to destroy the country and dumb as a rock at the same time. I met the man.  He might not the most articulate performer, but he’s not a dummy. B-

The Pandemic: He managed it better than Trump because he told the truth. Trusted the experts. Recognized it as a problem. Rolled out the vaccine as best he could. My office alone vaccinated 29,000 people. There was a cohesive plan of distribution. Trump warp sped the vaccine to be sure but lost any chance of getting any credit because he wasn’t straight with the people. Even if Biden did gibe him credit (and the way Biden was treated by Trump why should he even do that?) people weren’t buying what Trump had to sell even after the election. A-

The Stimulus: They rolled it out quick and orderly. It jumpstarted the economy. That was timing to be sure but again there were things there to replenish the national stockpile. The bill passed by only a Democratic majority because the Senate decided they didn’t want to help restaurants and other entities even though they took credit for it. B+

Insurance premiums:  Part of the $1.9 trillion relief package was a provision that no one must spend more than 8.5% of what they earn on insurance premiums, which experts say is among the most significant changes to the affordability of private insurance since the Affordable Care Act.  A+

Climate change: Back in the Paris accords. Trump pulled out but got nothing for his efforts.  We’d rather be in it to see what’s going on. I mean even Russia stayed in it. C+ (Too close to tell if this is a good decision or not.

NATO: The allies that your dad and our uncles fought with in WWII are now confident that they won’t be singled out as deadbeats from a guy who never paid his vendors. A+

Russia: I think even Putin is relieved that the he has an adversary that will be constant. C (Too little info available.

Child poverty and racial justice: No overt racism or code words to the fringe part of the base. A plus.

Supreme Court stacking: Won’t happen because if the Trump supporters thought the appointees were going to go in lock step just for being on the Supreme Court, they are wrong. They are only 115 people who were ever on the Supreme Court in the history of this country.  If you were one of them would you back a person who had no knowledge of the government, he was running? A

Knowledge: Biden and Harris know the rules of the country. What they can and can’t do.  So did Mike Pence. A+ for Democrats. A+ for Mike Pence.

Infrastructure: After 4 years of obstruction by the GOP for Obama, and 4 years of empty promises from Trump, there might be a bill. C+

Bipartisanship: Biden is trying to bring Republicans into the fold. They have refused the policies so far.  The late Governor Bob Casey used to say, “You will be judged and remembered by what you did when you had the power.” Our later Uncle Timmy Pribula used to say, “When you win, you get the spoils”. So by those standards, by  placating the likes of Mitch McConnell and other obstructionists in the name of some fantasy of bipartisanship, I give them a D- teetering on an F.

We have let a lot of stuff go in the last 12 years, 8 of those of the witty and engaging but Feckless Obama and another 4 of the bullying, not willing to learn or seek advice of a clearly psychotic human being (I’d have taken Mike Pence in a New York minute) we have a lot to do.

TEDDY DANIELS: AMERICAN PATRIOT?

Daniels Trump-mocking of the Head of the Army he served in.

You tell me how a former military man, a fighter in Afghanistan who was wounded could all of a sudden turn against the Chief of Staff who is the Commander? People who have served have every right to their disagreements but Teddy Daniels, a Congressional candidate has savagely attacked Mark Milley, a 4 Star General who talked about the need for understanding the racial divide in the military. Daniels in his usual barbaric and bullying style freaked out saying that the Head o the Joint Chiefs had no business talking about multi multiculturalism  in America. I wonder if Daniels served with only white servicemen and women in Afghanistan? Was Daniels okay with President Truman integrating the m military? Jesus, maybe we ought to have Daniels wave a flag on the fourth but it most likely will be of the Confederate variety Unfair you say? Look t this fundraiser appeal that the “patriot” (who by the way was on the scene for the great insurrection on January 6th) sent to his base. It is a racist filled attack on an American soldier and leader that Daniels pales in comparison to.

 Dear Patriot,

I'm Teddy Daniels, and the America-First disabled Afghan war vet and a former cop, running for Congress in Pennsylvania's 8th District. I'm the America First candidate in this Trump district, and I'm fighting Woke leftists here every day!

So Teddy boy is fighting leftists everyday right? By spewing falsehoods and hate?  Who are THEY Teddy? Name them. Are they the local newspapers you need to get your messages out on the campaign trail?

I was in the Army, fighting and bleeding in Afghanistan. I know all too well, that when the Army has no real clear role and no clear procedures, it is not effective in the one thing we NEED it to be: killing bad guys.

Teddy doesn't seem to follow the example of the Greatest Generation who won  a World War on two fronts and never bragged about how much they bled. But if he wants to do that, okay.

That's why I'm angry about Biden's making the military leadership into a cowering woke bunch of cowards. It's not good for the military, nor the country!

Teddy blames Biden for making the military cowards. But yet his party says Biden is a puppet. It can't be both. Biden can't be senile and a mastermind manipulator of tough military guys (one who by the way bled)  and have it both ways.

Will you join me in fighting against wokeness in the military?

So id he finds the perpetrators of wokeness, will Teddy order a firing squad or contact the goons he and Scavo were with on  January 6th?

Here's what Gen. Milley said:

The four-star general told lawmakers that service members should be “open-minded and be widely read” because service members “come from the American people” and said he wanted to better understand racism as well as the climate that led to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

“I want to understand white rage — and I’m white,” Milley told lawmakers “What is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America?

“I’ve read Mao Tse Tung. I’ve read Karl Marx. I’ve read Lenin. That doesn’t make me a communist,” Milley continued. “So what is wrong with understanding, having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend?”

Can you believe this guy? Karl Marx and Lenin and Mao should not be anywhere NEAR the fighting force that protects our freedom!!!

So Teddy seems to think that knowing history, knowing your enemy, the way people think is a bad thing? This freedom fighter who by the way in case you didn't know it already, bled wants to ban thought? Is this what he fought for? To suppress free thought? Now maybe Teddy thinks the people in the service might be better served by Archie and Jug head comic books but that won't make them a thinking force. They'll think...they'll think, well like Teddy and his friends from Ye Olde Insurrection.

Me? I agree with President Trump's assessment:

Shocker!

Donald Trump mocked "woke" military generals and critical race theory as he warned Joe Biden was "destroying the nation” in his first campaign rally ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

Trump mocking anybody is because he has no working knowledge of anything involving government.

The former US president said the country's military brass had "become weak and ineffective leaders" who were more concerned with pursuing a "woke" agenda than they were "their enemies".

Weak and ineffective Teddy? Ah accusation is confession isn't it?  You're BASHING you're former colleagues. NAME THEM. TELL US WHO THEY ARE? Have any been court martialed?

I agree. If the military were not so concerned with implementing Biden's woke agenda, maybe they could beat the Taliban. There must be oversight and a check and balance on Biden and what he is doing to the military. Help me so we can flip Pennsylvania's 8th!

Talk to one military person about Biden's woke agenda, they'd be hard pressed to tell you THEY were being MIND controlled by anyone.

The Socialists are scared of me. The Swamp is scared of me. I'm not going to entertain their woke nonsense. I'm not compromising with traitors.

No Teddy, people even in your own party are laughing at you. As far as using the word traitor my friend, tread carefully. Did you ever make that speech? And what's with the hand gesture?

I will go to DC and work to pass the America First agenda. I'll give the Swamp hell- help me do it!

If your Lord and Slave Master Diaper Don Trump couldn't do it Teddy, how the hell will you?

America First Patriots like me are fighting back! Help me raise meet my goal for this quarter- $1,780 with only days to go! My opponent, Democrat Matt Cartwright, worked to make the elections here dirty. I will beat him here, just as Trump beat the Dems here- twice!  Ah, nearly $2,000 bucks. That'll buy you some stamps!

Make the elections dirty? HOW? Again, accusation is confession.

Let's stand up for America!

To tear it down like you TRIED on January 6th with your fellow Trumpanzees?

For Love of Country,

For love of God, these guys  walk among us!

DONALD RUMSFELD, INFLUENTIAL BUT CONTROVERSIAL BUSH DEFENSE SECRETARY, DIES AT 88

Donald H. Rumsfeld, whose roles overseeing the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and efforts to transform the U.S. military made him one of history’s most consequential as well as controversial Pentagon leaders, died June 29 at his home in Taos, N.M. He was 88.

Rumsfeld’s political prominence stretched back to the 1960s and included stints as a rebellious young Republican congressman, favored counselor to President Richard M. Nixon, right-hand man to President Gerald Ford and Middle East envoy for President Ronald Reagan. He also scored big in business, helping to pioneer such products as NutraSweet and high-definition television and earning millions of dollars salvaging large troubled firms.

His greatest notoriety and national effect came during a six-year reign as defense secretary under President George W. Bush. Hailed initially for leading the U.S. military to war in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Mr. Rumsfeld’s handling of the Iraq War eventually led to his downfall. Widely criticized for poorly planning the invasion’s aftermath, he was slow to recognize the development of an insurgency, draft an effective strategy for countering it and set clear policy for the treatment of prisoners. REP. CARTWRIGHT SECURES $3.5 MILLION FOR STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS IN INTERIOR & ENVIRONMENT APPROPRIATIONS BILL

REP. CARTWRIGHT ALSO WON FUNDING INCREASES FOR ABANDONED MINE LAND RECLAMATION AND THE CHESAPEAKE BAY PROGRAM IN FY2022 INTERIOR AND ENVIRONMENT APPROPRIATIONS BILL

Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright  announced that the Interior & Environment Appropriations Subcommittee approved its fiscal year 2022 funding bill yesterday evening, and it released its report that included his $3.5 million Community Project Funding (CPF) request to support stormwater infrastructure improvements in the Wyoming Valley. Additional benefits for Northeastern Pennsylvania in the funding bill include a $50 million increase for abandoned mine land reclamation in Appalachian states and a $3 million increase for the Chesapeake Bay Program, which also supports stormwater infrastructure projects.

Next, the full Appropriations Committee will review the bill and incorporate the report during a markup on Thursday, July 1. After full committee review, it will move to the House floor for a vote.

The $3.5 million stormwater infrastructure project is sponsored by the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority (WVSA), and it will support their Warrior Creek Stream Restoration and Abrahams Creek MS4 Stream Restoration & Creek Street Stormwater Basin Retrofit projects. It will address stormwater management and achieve the goals of reducing sediment and nutrient loads under Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s) regulations.

“It’s my goal to get the federal government to contribute as much as possible toward our legal obligations on stormwater runoff reduction. Over time, that’s the only way we can reduce the burden on our homeowners,” said Rep. Cartwright. “That’s why I worked hard to advocate for this major $3.5 million investment for stormwater improvements on behalf of the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority. This will go a long way to protecting the water quality in the Susquehanna River watershed for years to come.”

“Stormwater green infrastructure projects have a direct impact on improving water quality in our local streams, the Susquehanna River, and the Chesapeake Bay, as well as achieving compliance with state and federal stormwater pollutant reduction goals,” said James B. Tomaine, PE, Executive Director, Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority. “Federal funding for these types of infrastructure projects remains inherently valuable to our Regional Stormwater Management Program (RSMP) and the communities it serves.”

The fiscal year 2022 Interior, Environment and Related Agencies appropriations bill also includes the following priorities for Northeastern Pennsylvania for which Rep. Cartwright advocated:

$165 million for Abandoned Mine Land reclamation funds for Appalachian states, a $50 million increase over fiscal year 2021.

$90.5 million for the Chesapeake Bay Program, a $3 million increase over fiscal year 2021 and fully funding the program up to its limit.

$12.5 million for the Delaware River Basin Restoration Program, a $2.5 million increase over fiscal year 2021

Reauthorization of the National Heritage Areas (NHAs) and $27 million for the National Heritage Partnership program, a $3 million increase over fiscal year 2021.

Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District is home to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority and Delaware & Lehigh NHAs. NHAs are partnerships among the National Park Service (NPS), states, and local communities, in which the NPS supports state and local conservation and economic development through federal recognition, seed money and technical assistance. They remain in state, local, or private ownership or a combination thereof, and are supported by grants from the federal government and other sources, which can support job-creating projects and businesses.

“The lion's share of unreclaimed abandoned mine lands and stream miles polluting our coalfield communities remain in the Appalachian Region. These additional funds will allow for an increase in both the number of acres to be reclaimed and stream miles that can be restored while we are still advocating for the passage of the RECLAIM Act and Reauthorization of the Abandoned Mine Land Trust Fund before September of this year,” said Bobby Hughes, Executive Director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR). “These sites need to continue to be looked at as the new economic development opportunity areas for clean energy projects, manufacturing facilities, warehouse distribution centers, recreational trails, waterways, outdoor centers, and ecotourism destinations, all of which will create local jobs as many of the communities are in the midst of a transition away from resource extraction.”

“The investments in this funding bill will be good for our economy, our community’s health and our environment. I’m grateful for the subcommittee’s work on this bill and I’m ready to get to work to enact it and ensure Northeastern Pennsylvania gets its fair share of funding,” said Rep. Cartwright.

CASEY, WYDEN, SCHUMER INTRODUCE CHILDREN’S SAVINGS ACCOUNTS TO INVEST IN ECONOMIC FUTURE OF NATION’S CHILDREN

Senator Bob Casey (LuLac archives)

In an effort to ensure that every child in America has an opportunity to be economically secure, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) are introducing the Young American Savers Act. This legislation, a key policy proposal in Senator Casey’s Five Freedoms for America’s Children agenda, would establish children’s savings accounts, seeded annually with $500 in government contributions, for every child whose parent(s) or guardian earns under $100,000 per year.

“No child’s future should be limited because their parents are not wealthy. Every young person in America should have the opportunity to reach their potential and experience economic security,” said Senator Casey. “More than 15 percent of children in Pennsylvania grow up in poverty. This is unacceptable. The Young American Savers Act is a down payment on the future of the children of our country.”

“Many Americans don’t begin to save for the future until later in life, making it far more difficult to get an education, start a business, buy a home, or retire. If children are on solid financial footing at a young age, they are far more likely to build a middle-class life. By investing up to $9,000 in savings accounts for our children, we’ll be setting them up for success throughout their lives. Oregon has lead the nation in helping working people save, and we have the opportunity to build on that success,” said Senator Wyden.

“For too many Americans, the promise of the American Dream seems out of reach,” said Majority Leader Schumer. “The Young American Savers Act would invest in our nation’s youth and make it easier for future generations of children to escape poverty and obtain economic security. No one should be denied the opportunity to own a home or start a business because they don’t come from a wealthy family. This legislation would ensure that every child in America has much more ability to reach their full potential.”

Up to 50 percent of funds in the savings accounts established by the Young American Savers Act may be used for higher education expenses. Funds can also be rolled over into a retirement account, used to start a business or as a down payment to buy a home in the name of the account beneficiary.

Depending on years of eligibility, children could begin their adult lives with up to $9,000 in savings to help pay for post-secondary education, start a business, buy a home or save for long-term retirement. This legislation is a key part of Senator Casey’s Five Freedoms for America’s Children, a comprehensive set of policy proposals aimed at ensuring every child in America has the freedom to reach their full potential.
