The LuLac Edition #484, May 24th, 2008

PHOTO INDEX: THE LATE SENATOR ROBERT KENNEDY AND SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON.

WHAT NEXT???

I’ve been trying to process this latest Hillary Clinton statement since I heard about it Friday night. I had a busy night Friday working on some camera shots for another You Tube project, stopping by to see Mom at Heniz and buying gas for the ragtop in anticipation of the Memorial Day weekend. I’ve refrained from commenting until I thought it out and I’m not sure I’ve even done that precisely but here are my reactions.
1. Senator Clinton’s language on Friday is being attacked as insensitive because she used the Kennedy assassination as a reference point when responding to why she should stay in the race against Senator Obama. She has used the analogy of her husband locking up the nomination after the California primary as well as referencing what happened to Senator Kennedy. After playing her remarks over and over again, I saw someone talking about the month of June in historical perspective. That’s it, I saw no ulterior motive or a parallel between the death of Senator Kennedy and the threats against Senator Obama.
2. She looked tired, wan and maybe didn’t use the best words but I don’t think she meant to convey that she was hanging around “just in case” someone took a shot at Mr. Obama. Her choice of words were poor but what I saw was a stream of consciousness that was meant to convey a historical point, not a death wish for anyone. Senator Obama to his credit has said that all candidates get “careless” in their remarks, showing once again a great deal of class.
3. People of her generation (which I include myself in) know the date June 5th, 1968 just as my parent’s generation know the date of April 12th, 1945 when Franklin Roosevelt died or Nov. 22nd when John Kennedy was killed. At my grade school reunion last Sunday, one of the first things that came up was Bobby Kennedy’s death. It is something that we remember every year. Clinton even admitted that the Kennedys were on her mind. Bringing up Bobby Kennedy’s death was not wishing ill on Mr. Obama, it was just bringing up what happened in June, when the California primary usually decided things. The California primary brought Kennedy victory in 1968, Goldwater a win in 1964, McGovern a decisive win in 1972 and Reagan a big win in 1980 that all but decided those races. In addition to her husband’s win in 1992, you can see how decisive the California primary has always been. When Kennedy died, it took two months for another candidate to coalesce around the peace movement. Eugene McCarthy at that point was clearly not up to it and it wasn’t until George McGovern took the banner days before the convention that someone stood in Kennedy’s place. To me, there was a lot unsaid in her comments, I feel there might have been too many memories bouncing around in that boomer’s political head. Maybe if she had brought up those instances I have mentioned, she might not have been criticized so roundly.
4. The criticism. Senator Clinton responded to a question about some of the unfair treatment she has received in the media, some telling her she should leave the race even after Iowa. With the firestorm that greeted these comments, especially on MSNBC, it appears the media proved her point. Commentator after commentator grimly appeared on the network treating this story as if she spewed a bunch of venom and hate. Keith Obermann’s comments were particularly hysterical and made me wonder if he had a mix of vodka and dexatrim before taking to the air. It was a gaffe, a mistake and a poor choice of words. Unfortunately, it will put the final nail in her campaign coffin and most likely cost her the Vice Presidency. But in a way, it vindicates everything she has been saying about the boys in the media, especially the male broadcasters on MSNBC who were trying to show us who’s capacity for histrionics was bigger than the others.

Yep, that poor embittered put down denied overworked uneducated white woman had it all against her goin into this race. Thats why she was at one time 30 points ahead. She wouldnt have been up to the job if the campaign was too much and it was according to your logic. Look at the financial mismanagement of the Clinton campaign. Look at her inability to bring people together. She simply failed to get on point and perform! I'm left with the question, what exactly were her strong points? She got a fair deal and blew the opportunity. Hopefully the press wont have Hillary Clinton to pick on anymore. She would have said or done anything to be president. As it turns out she said too much and
did nothing. She was no Hubert Humphrey, Dave.

This is another mis-step from someone who keeps telling us that she has the experience and qualifications to be ready on day one. She is not even ready in the campaign. If she is tired now, just how would she handle the stress and grind of the presidency. It ages everyone who has set foot in the oval office.

BTW she lied again. Bill had the election locked up months before the June primary. It was only him and Jerry Brown at that time, he was up something like 700 delegates according to both George Stephanopolis and Dee Dee Myers this morning on This Week. Both intimated she was playing a little loose with the facts regarding that statement.

This B.S. that people are against her because she is a woman is just that B.S., people are against her because she is Hillary Clinton

    Hey Yonk:

off topic, but since you seem familiar with WILK I was wondering if you knew the sweet connection (edited) Carl Romanelli is getting over there. I am listening to Shadow Steele's Out look on PA and it seems they are replaying this little wienie's guest spot again.
He was news at one point, but WTF is there no one else out there. This guy gets more free air time to say nothing than anyone on the planet.

Thank for for asserting Senator's Obama's response to this incident. He has been nothing but class all the way.

Yonks and Corbett, book your reservations at the Last Resort for some R&R because the Clinton
train has reached the end of the line. The difference is that the LuLac editor has been fair and fairly balanced throughout. The other guy is a minor league Rushbo wanna be who talks about the positive and went 100% negative on this issue. Steve, we dont care who you are voting for and your imagined influence translates into only an inflated ego. Hot air! Remember you vanished from WARM one day years ago and nobody even found out you were missing for weeks! Can you say Fred Williams?

One thing you got right for sure.
Who spiked Keith Obermann's orange juice? Man, the guy went off.
I dont think what she said had to be taken that way or was so bad. Then again Obama got crucified for calling the most bitter people on the planet, bitter! Obama's black, Hillary is a woman and McCain is an old man. There I said it. Its all out there now! Deal with it America.

If either Hillary or Obama becomes President of this country, I think all of you supporters of your sainted candidates will be upset. Our troops will not be pulled out of Iraq. The Democratic party got the majority of the congress in 2006 because they ran on the promise that they would end the war in Iraq. Now look at their approval ratings. It's lower then the President's. The President has a slightly higher rating because at least he delivered his promise to his base, I'm a gonna whoop the bad guys asses good! The Democrats told us they would get us out of this mess and they didn't. After 9/11 the President, Cheny, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz riled up the country for this war. The rest of the world supported us when we went into Afganistan. But that wasn't enough for this administration. They convinced this country we needed to attack a country that we took care of more than a decade ago, and even if the two bit dictator had the weopons on mass destructions that the administration claimed, it didn't amount to a pile of Sh!t because we and the British had him effectivly castrated anyway with the no fly zones over this country. To get to the point of my long winded rant, if you are a Hillary supporter that will not vote for Barak in November because your candidate did not win, or visa versa, please don't any of you complain with a McCain win and if we find ouselves with another war in Iran. Hillary or Obama won't get us out of Iraq anymore then the 2006 elected congress will, but depending on the next president we can see a widened war. Or let's shoot ourselves in the foot like democrats are good at in a Presidential election.

"Bush calls on Nation to remember war dead this Memorial Day". He needs to remember the 4,000 completely unnecessary dead and the 10,000 or more maimed Americans who are solely his responsibility! How many funerals have you attended, Geo? None. How many of the dead came from your neighborhood? None. How was your family affected? Not at all. Support the troops by vetoing educational programs and housing the war injured in quarters that the president wouldnt stay in and cant be troubled to visit. And oh yes, lets honor your service and that of dick cheney. Oh thats right, cheney had better things to do and geo couldnt be bothered by those inconvenient meetings.
I voluntered and served with honor, even got a couple of medals so dont dare call me unpatriotic when I say, this president and his vp are profitering war mongors and should be tried for war crimes! They have done their best to destroy all thats right and good about this country by taking all they could and giving back nothing! Just look around.
And we worry if Obama is too inexperienced and McCain too old. How could we go wrong? The current leader of the free world is an arrogant moron. We could not and never have done worse!
Damn you geo bush, Damn you for all time!!!

Q: How can you tell Hillary Clinton is exaggerating?

    A: Her lips are moving.

Q: How can you tell Hillary Clinton is lying?
    A: She is speaking.

Q: How can you tell Hillary Clinton is telling a really big lie.
    A: She emphasizes her point.

Next time you are in Old Forge actually try some white pizza, instead of white lies.

Now Bubba makes vague references to a cover up of some undetermined
scope re the Clinton Campaign. No, Bill there is no cover up real or imagined. No "stained dress" in the closet so to speak. Its time for the one time first couple to stop blaming others and accept the fact that the "smart" American people caught on and clearly rejected Hillary and your badly tarnished legacy.

LET'S NOT FORGET WHO WAS DOING THE FIRING AT WARM WHEN STEVE WAS THERE. THE GUY FIRED KEVIN LYNN FIVE TIMES AND AT ANOTHER RADIO STATION ALMOST FIRED ME! CORBETT IS ENTITLED TO HIS HOT AIR AND OPINION. AND YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH HIS NUMBERS. UNLIKE FRED WILLIAMS, AKA TED, CORBETT IS STRONG ON COMMUNITY GROWTH AND BUILDING. LET US NEVER FORGET THAT WE COULD'VE HAD A 24,000 SEAT ARENA INSTEAD OF A 9,000 SEAT EDIFICE BECAUSE OF OLD CURLY TOP. HIS ON AIR CONTRIBUTIONS WERE NEGATIVE, HURTFUL AND DAMAGING TO THIS COMMUNITY. THANK HEAVENS WE SHALL NEVER SEE HIS LIKE AGAIN. AND AS FAR AS STEVE GOES, IF HE FLAMES OUT, (AND I DON'T THINK THAT WILL BE THE CASE) BUT IF HE DOES, IT WILL BE GLORIOUS AND FUN TO WATCH.

    Dave,
Phil Condron was runnin WARM when Corbett jumped the shark as I recall. Steve was new and I thought good, but he was just gone one day! More likely audience will grow tired of Stevie before he flames out He has gone negative because his candidate is cooked. Sour grapes!Go against Obama and guarantee more war! You cant have it both ways, Steve. I personally had high hopes for the guy and wish he would get back on track. Meanwhile, I just dont listen anymore. Regarding ratings, there is no competition in talk radio and the addition of an effective FM signal could not help but hype the ratings, but they are still drivin by Rushbo!

THAT LONG AGO? YIKES. I STILL THINK CORBETT IS DOING A GOOD JOB AND DOING A TYPE OF GONZO REPORTING THAT IS RARELY DONE BY TALK SHOW HOSTS WHO GET COMFORTABLE AND MAIL IT IN. I USED TO LAUGH AT TED WILLIAMS' RESEARCH, BUY A POST, A DAILY NEWS AND A HARRISBURG PATRIOT, FAN THEM OUT ON A DESK AND CALL IT RESEARCH. THIS GUY GOES IN THE TRENCHES. I SEE WE DISAGREE HERE, BUT AS ALWAYS I APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS.
