NEW TEAM NAME
Many baseball fans are waiting with great anticipation for the new name of the Triple A baseball team formerly known as the Red Barons. Since the Yankee affiliation deal was sealed, there has been speculation on the new name. Reports are circulating that a new team name with merchandise will be unveiled soon for the holiday shopping season. Anyway, here are some suggestions for team names that would reflect life as we know it in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Here goes:
THE NORTHEAST NEPOTISTS
THE LACKAWANNA WANNABES
THE LACKAWANNA WUNDERFULS (hope they have permission from ASCAP)
THE MINOOKA MINIMUM WAGERS
THE ARCHBALD ARROWS
THE JERMYN JAZZBOWS
THE PITTSTON POTHOLES (with apologies to Archbald)
THE TRI COUNTY TELEMARKETERS
THE CALL CENTER CUTIES
THE DUNMOREANS (with apologies to the TV western "The Virginian")
THE PENNSYLVANIA PAYRAISERS
THE PENNSYLVANIA PER DIEMS
THE OAK HILLS (in memory of fine cinema of the past)
THE TURKEY HILL HIGHLANDERS
THE PENN DOT PROCRASTINATORS (one guys works and 8 guys stand around looking busy)
THE LU LAC LUNKHEADS
THE BACKYARD BOMBERS
and my personal favorite
THE NEW YORK YONKI'S.

BOB ON THE AIR
Lackawanna County Commission Chairman and the man who brought the Yankees to the area is doing his part to promote the area. The Commissioner, an old radio hand is lending his voice to the TV and radio ads promoting events in Lackawanna County. Many residents have taken note of his dulcet tones on the airwaves.
THE LUZERNE COMMISSIONERS RACE
As 2007 looms, County Controller Mary Ann Petrilla has indicated a willingness to join the Commissioners Team. Petrilla ran once before in 2003 and finished fourth in the primary that featured the two current Democratic Commissioners, Skrepenak and Vonderheid, as well as Steve Flood then Controller and former Commissioner and political warhorse Frank Trinicewski. So far Skrep has not indicated his feelings one way or the other. Petrilla, elected in 2005 by defeating incumbent Steve Flood in the primary and then winning in the general will have had two years of county experience under her belt. Same with Tom Pizano who went on to run with Tom Makowski after Rose Tucker stepped down. The Controller's office was once a political fortress, held by the late Joe Tirpak since 1975 until his death in 1997. Since then, Pizano served two years, Steve Flood four and now Petrilla two. If this were the old party, the bosses would tell Petrilla to garner some time in her row office. Petrilla, if successful would be only the third woman serving on the Board of Commissioners, the first being Ethel Price from 1968 to 1976 (having been elected in '67 and '71), and Rose Tucker, from '92 to '2000 having been elected in 1991 and 1995.
So far some names have cropped up like Atty. Ray Hassey, Wilkes Barre Councilwoman Kathy Kane and a few others but nothing is really being said just yet on others.
On the GOP side it's expected Steve Urban will go for another term. Since party chair Lynette Villano has decreed a referendum on politics until after the holidays, there's nothing doing from the official wing of the party. Come to think of it, it's like that all the time, not just the holidays with the local GOP.
PETE CASSIDY COMMENTS
On Michael Richards:
Michael Richards, recent winner of the Mel Gibson Braveheart Award for bigotry, has apparently launched an end of the year Apology Tour! The tour opened on the Letterman Show and continues with Glenn Beck next week.Jeff Beck was not available. Richards apologized to Jesse Jackson, himself a bigot, who graciuosly accepted on behalf of all blacks, last week. Al Sharpton, not represented by the Rev Jackson , but rumored to be black, did not accept Richards apology. "I am not a bigot" T-shirts are selling well and white satin KKK tour jackets are on order.
Gotta wonder how Richards really felt about all those Jewish writers on the Seinfeld Program.Immediately following the tour, Richards is expected to check into a rehab facility of his choice as soon as he decides what to blame the awful outburst on. Drugs seems like the strongest contender, but it is possible that Richards, like Gibson is just an asshole.
Upcoming dates include: the Apollo Theatre in NY, Leos Casino, former hangout of Jim Brown in Cleveland and several ethnic venues in Newark, Philly and Chicago.
On our Thanksgiving Blog
Arlo once noted the length of "Alice" to be exactly the same as the missing portion of the Nixon tapes.
On changing the Constitution
Do we really need a president and vice president? The latest duo brought a war on us. No one else, just dickless and w. Its their war!!! Would the country run more smoothly with a manager or CEO setup? Plus look at the savings: no cars, airplane, house to keep up, salaries including secret service, assistants aides and associates. Vice presidents are admittedly useless and this president has been a total negative force. Bush makes the case, we'd be better off without him and the country would be in better shape. I defy you to name one accomplishment attributed to this man!!!
Bush makes presidency obsolete! Way to go, w.

Kathy Kane for County Commissioner is a sad choice for Luzerne County...This woman has repeatedly shown that she is a Political Hack and cannot be trusted...Look at what she represents in Wilkes Barre City ..She has repeatedly insulted the people of this County with her challange of the referendum question for Redistricting of the City of Wilkes Barre and also has demonstrated her ability to ignore the wishes of the voters and work for what is politically going to benefit herself...This woman would be a bad choice for County Commissioner.
