The LuLac Edition #390, Jan. 9th, 2008

PHOTO INDEX: LUZERNE COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION DIRECTOR KATHY BOZINSKI AND RICHARD M. NIXON, OUR 37TH PRESIDENT.

PENNY WISE
....

Well here we go again, the perception that things are ass backward in Luzerne County continues with the news that Kathy Bozinski, the PR person for the County may lose her job. And my big question is WHY? She was not involved as a participant in the debit card problem so she basically has done nothing wrong. What she has done is be a port in the storm to the embattled politicos under the dome and a conduit to the local news media. She has given the news media the information she had, or was allowed to have and when she didn't have it, said so. As far as handling the events, large and small at the Courthouse, her style and implementation skills has been flawless whether it was an inauguration or a banner raising for Austrian Americans. In my countless contacts with non profits as well as people from the political world, no one has had a bad thing to say about the way she did her job. But now we hear that she will be let go as part of a reorganizational plan. Well here's a thought, reorganize the people whose character has come into question and keep in place the one person who has done the unexpected in Luzerne County politics: her job! Greg Skrepenak says that he sees no need for change because he feels the county is going in the right direction. Some may argue that point. However, as far as Kathy Bozinski goes and her job performance is concerned, making a change would be penny wise and pound foolish. (I'm sure they could get one of Hoggie Augie Piazza's nieces or nephews for half the price!) She has contributed more than her salary in time, dedication, professionalism and class. Stay the course with this one. To elininate her position would be foolish and even for Luzerne County politics, unfair.

NIXON!!!!!

My father and I had furious debates about Richard Nixon. He hated and distrusted the man, I had a soft spot in my heart for the turmoil of his youth. I thought that my dad, as a depression era contempory of Nixon (my dad was born in 1914, Nixon in 1913) might have felt the same way. He didn't. While I campaigned actively against him and never voted for the man, after reading numerous biographies I came to at least an understanding on how he evolved into the public man he had become. One of my biggest regrets is not having met the man, I saw him once at Yankee Stadium but did not make my way to the private box (I had a media pass too) to give him the once over. Today is Nixon's birthday, he would have been 95. From YOU TUBE, Nixon defending himself to David Frost in those famous summer of '77 interviews,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJs80eBGYlM and a younger more humane, talented Nixon playing the piano on NBC's Tonight Show hosted by the late Jack Paar.

Amen David!
Finally someone speaks the truth, backed by facts!
Kathy is being unfairly targeted.
She is the ONLY one in Skrep's Folly's that did the job above and beyond what was expected.
Why is she being thrown in with the "debit card" gang ?
Why should she be fired along with Gusto or Hyder?
Petrilla is starting to scare me on many levels.
I think there is more to this.
It would be interesting to find out what Ms. Bozinski actually knows about the "inner circle"
I feel a Ron Ziegler flashback coming on............

Dave, Where do you find these classic film clips? And as far as Bozinski goes, you may be too late in defending her but you are right. She brought competence to the position.

Nixon was elected in '68 and took office Jan 20th thirty nine years ago. Whatever you think of him, he was one of the dominant public figures of the century.

Can Obama survive Kerry's endorsement? Titanic John, the swiftboat commander who should have fought back, but instead got sunk!

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The LuLac Edition #390, Jan. 9th, 2008":

I wonder if Kathy getting the axe is a shot across the bow at Skrep from Petrilla. Get rid of his PR person (edited) or whatever (edied) . Petrilla maybe saying I don't care how close you are the B.S. stops....

Guesto moves over to the court administrator position at what will likely be not a penny's loss in pay. That's his punishment? Damn, that is a hardship. Diaz's name isn't even being mentioned for any sort of discipline or retribution, and Hyder looks to be home safe. Yet, Bozinski gets sacked.

Anyone else smell something here?

I mentioned elsewhere that Petrilla likely wouldn't be a commissioner if not for Skrep as a running-mate, and I'll stand by that. If Petrilla is firing shots across anyone's bow, it would strongly indicate that she and Urban have forged a strong voting relationship, empowering her to make bold moves. If so, I bet Skrep is just thrilled he embraced her instead of asking for an open primary. I'd also bet Chairman Bufalino is just tickled, too.
