NO. PEOPLE THINK YOU DO BUT SOME POLITICIANS HAVE PROVEN OTHERWISE. IT IS IRONIC THAT IN THIS AREA WITH 5 COLLEGES, THE JOB MARKET IN THIS AREA DOES NOT VALUE EMPLOYEES WITH AN EDUCATION. TAKE $8.00 BUCKS AN HOUR AND BE GRATEFUL. BUT I DIGRESS. THE MOST NOTABLE POLITICIAN WITHOUT A COLLEGE DEGREE WAS HARRY S. TRUMAN. IN PENNSYLVANIA, ERNIE KLINE SERVED AS LTN. GOVERNOR DURING THE SHAPP ADMINISTRATION. KLINE HAD BEEN A STATE SENATOR AND HAD RUN WITH ROBERT CASEY SENIOR IN 1970. CASEY WAS DEFEATED BY MILTON SHAPP AND KLINE THEN RAN WITH THE INDUSTRIALIST. KLINE THEN RAN FOR GOVERNOR IN 1978 AND LOST IN A THREE WAY RACE WITH THE ULTIMATE WINNER PITTSBURGH MAYOR PETER FLAHERTY AND ROBERT CASEY SENIOR.

I'VE WARMED TO IT. I THINK THE CONGRESS SHOULD PASS IT. THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF AMERICAN BUSINESS SCREWING THEMSELVES. THINK ABOUT IT. SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE EMPLOYERS DECIDED THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO BE FAIR TO THEIR EMPLOYEES. THEY MADE CONDITIONS SO PUNATIVE FOR WORKERS, WERE SO IRRESPONSIBLE TOWARD THE RIGHTS OF WORKERS LIKE INTIMIDATING THOSE WHO EVEN WHISPERED THE WORD “UNION” THAT THEY SHOWED, LIKE THE WALL STREET GREEDSTERS THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE WATCHED OVER BECAUSE OF THEIR IMMORAL BEHAVIOR. OH THEY HAVE “RAH RAH” RALLIES AND GIVE EMPLOYEES PIZZA PARTIES BUT AT THE SAME TIME DECREASE HOURS TO 30 SO THEY ARE NOT ON THE HOOK FOR BENEFITS. SO I’M GLAD CARD CHECK HAS A CHANCE AND TO THOSE BUSINESSES WHO SAY IT WILL HURT THEM, I SAY, “YOU DID IT TO YOURSELVES BY NOT TREATING YOUR EMPLOYEES RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE”. GO CARD CHECK!

7. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF GOVERNOR RENDELL’S TALK AT THE FUNERAL OF TROOPER JOSHUA MILLER?
ED RENDELL WAS ED RENDELL. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU DISLIKE THE MAN FOR HIS POLICIES, THE GUY HAS A SOUL AND A HEART THAT HE WEARS ON HIS SLEEVE. RENDELL CONNECTS WITH THE AVERAGE MAN LIKE NO POLITICIAN IN PENNSYLVANIA HISTORY. HIS SPEECH WASN’T CONTRIVED, HE WAS RECALLING HIS OWN FATHER’S DEATH WHEN HE (THE GOVERNOR) WAS 14 AND REACHED OUT EMOTIONALLY TO THE TWO TEENAGE DAUGHTERS OF TROOPER MILLER. IT WAS TOUCHING AND UNLIKE MOST WOODEN POLITICAL ORIERNTED TRIBUTES, IT WAS REAL AND CAME FROM THE HEART. THAT’S THE REASON WHY ED RENDELL HAS NOTHING NEGATIVE STICKING TO HIM DESPITE SOME OUTRAGIOUS STATEMENTS AND MOVES. I FIRST BECAME AWARE OF RENDELL WHEN HE GAVE RICHIE ASHBURN’S EUOLOGY IN 1995. THEN, LIKE FRIDAY, HE SPOKE FROM THE HEART AND IMPRESSED MORE THAN A FEW AND COMFORTED MANY IN A TIME OF GRIEF.

PEPSI THROWBACK IS PEPSI MADE WITH SUGAR AND NOT CORN SYRUP. IT TASTES REALLY GOOD. ESPECIALLY COLD. THE ONLY PLACE I FOUND IT WAS PRICE CHOPPER IN WILKES BARRE TOWNSHIP. YOU COULD ONLY GET IT IN SINGLE 16 OUNCE BOTTLES IN A FRIDGE NEAR THE REGISTERS FOR $1.49 PLUS TAX.

AND WHILE I THINK SAME SEX PARENTS MAKE BETTER GUARDIANS OF CHILDREN THAN A MULTIPLE BABY MAKER UNWED MOTHER AND HER BOYFRIEND OF THE MONTH, I THINK MARRIAGE SHOULD BE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN. He attended college but did not finish. Somehow managed to get into law school but did not finish. and then somehow became a practicing lawyer. Only in NEPA.
Good commentary on WYLN TV. You guys had the most comprehensive coverage of the night in terms of longevity and interesting viewpoints. The staff up there with L.A. Tarone (who I first saw in person but heard for many years and saw on TV at your Judge's event) does a good job. I actually tape the 5pm newscast on SE and play it when I get home from work.

WHATEVER THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE IN TERMS OF HIM NOT FINISHING, I'D SAY HE'S DOING BETTER THAN I AM WITH MY DOUBLE MAJOR IN GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS. MAYBE I SHOULD'VE FLUNKED HIGH SCHOOL AND GOT A GED, THEN I'D MOST LIKELY BE A SUPERVISOR SOMEWHERE IN THIS AREA MAKING 80 GRAND!
David...You nailed it! I'm a woman college grad who is in this area because of aging parents. I have been supervised in big name companies, nationally known around here that pay pathetic wages of less than ten bucks an hour. My supervisors are unqualified silly women who wouldn't know how to manage their birth control if it wasn't laid out for them. Oh wait, they don't. These idiot women reproduce and then bring their darlings to the workplace where we are supposed to fawn over them. At least with the old boy network, some old boys had a modicum of brains. My super's favorite line of defense when we ask a basic qiuestion about how the company should be run is, "let me send you an e mail on that". Why because she doesn't know the answer. I want my parents to live a long life but when the time comes, I'm outta here away from the low wages, the trade school prima donna bosses who ACT like they are Einstein and their silly 5th grade girl talk.

Look Dave, I can see your point about the low wages. And I really think you do a god job but sometimes it seems as if you take great delight in promoting class warfare with some of your comments. I'm sure not all managers in area business only have GEDs. But it seems like you just want to rile people up when you are current in your comments. Your historical trails down memory lane just aren't relevant to today. Last year we heard ad naseum about King, Kennedy, Humphrey and your little girl friend in knee socks from 7th grade. So I think this year we're going to maybe fast forward to 1980or something instead we revert back 5 years to hear tales of a losing baseball team and a bunch of bills from the congress back then that just don't matter anymore. Come out of the 60s and join the 21rst century! And as for the lady who has the college degree and doesn't appreciate her women supervisors, you prove that women are their own worse enemy.
Excuse me 8:51PM. I am an African American lady. We were formerly known as Negroes in the 60s. I can tell you without a doubt that the bills in Congress from 1964 are just as relevant today as they were then. People died to get those bills passed, both whites and blacks. What Mr. Yonki conveys is a sense of history. No one, I repeat no one in the newspapers, save for Mr. Tom Mooney of the Times Leader do that. Your News Station WNEPT and WBRE don't provide a sense of where we've been either. Don't tell me these bills don't matter because when I was your age, I was drinking and taking care of my personal needs from a seperate wash room than whites.

This area is well known for keeping people down. David is correct when he says employers don't value education. see, our local people also don't value education. a talk show host in the area is a university of michigan grad, another from penn state, yet they are hated and disrespected on this blog by the posters many times over. this area rejected a harvard educated congressman in the 80s. it almost placed gary debilio in the mayor's chair over chris doherty because doherty doesn't go to every wake in the city and kiss every widow's ass. education is rewarded here but you have to know someone on a school board, in a courthouse or on an authority. then you get the payoff, but the other poor slobs here, mba s or ged s can't even get enough money to cover their pound of baloney and tank ful of gas. i've been there when a boss says, "we appreciate all you do, here's a coupon for dominos" then three weeks later our asses are out the door. yonki talked about card check, bring it on. the only difference between this century and last in wilkes barre scranton is the lack of coal dust in our lungs.

I moved into the area, not by choice but by marriage in 2008. In March I came across your blog site. I have heavily researched it. I went back to the archives and have seen the evolution of the political letter. The writing is good but I am totally confounded where you stand politically. It appears to be you are pro choice but yet you seem like attila the hun when it comes to teen and unwed mothers. In your years of "womanizing" I'm sure you've seen your share of unweds and single moms. I see no hostility toward those in that situation from the past but now...holy moley! You embrace the liberal policies of Mr. Obama and the memory of a Bobby Kennedy or the ultra liberal Hubert Humphrey. Yet you have written almost embarrassingly glowing tributes to Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and locally William Scranton Senior. You are anti war Iraq but celebrate Vietnam era vets to the highest degree. You seem to as one previous poster said promote class warfare especially in this area. I see Robin Hood robbing from the poor yet in your video for LULAC you are standing side by side with the bastions of the status quo. I am totally entertained but bewildered at the same time. Can you offer any insight into the way you are?
