The LuLac Edition #2156, August 12th, 2012

Paul Ryan and Children. He's worried about how they are going to have to pay for the deficits of big government.
Or will the Ryan budget, during a Romney administration leave middle class and poor kids locked out of “The American Dream?”

A POLITICAL TRUISM

When Republican politicians say that the deficit is going to be balanced on the backs of their children and grand children, keep this in mind. The programs they cut today will drastically affect your children’s future RIGHT NOW! Rest assured, Paul Ryan’s kids are going to be all right in the middle of this century. But if his plans are adopted, just how well will your kids fare in the next ten years? The Republicans can talk about the future in fifty year increments to achieve their goal of eliminating the middle class for good. Why should your children pay now with program cuts for 2 undeclared wars paid for with a credit card that ran up the deficit by 30 billion dollars a month? Should middle class kids be denied now so that the children and grandchildren of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can pay less taxes? Will the kids of today have to go without so that the children of the wealthiest among us have less taxes? When they say it’s about the kids, it is. But yours! Now! Not theirs, tomorrow!

a liberals idea of compassion is to make people dependent on the state. the more you take from the government, the more you are reliant upon it. but that is what liberals want.

Shades of Gray

Right on 8:23, the poor choose to be poor and are mostly felons and other undesirables because thats your limited world view. That said you make a couple of points which I agree with. I am all for helping out but not for making welfare a lifestyle handed down from generation to generation. I am liberal on some issues and conservative on others. I defy being branded. In over 60 years I have had money and I have been poor
but my work ethic has never varied.
Ive voted for and supported both Republicans and Democrats. I am a registered Independent because I dont wish to be affiliated with either party. Maybe I dont live in Yonki's world, but I damn sure dont live in yours. In my experience its just not all that black and white.

The more you post the more you show your disdain for everyone that is not like you. This attitude feeds your pessimism and clouds your ability to express your thoughts in a way that will make them believable to others. Let's examine some of the points you try to make in your post. --"we now have the highest tax rates in the developed world" The federal tax rate averages less than 30%. That tax rate does not even put the United States in the top 25 of the most taxed nations. -- "disability all up under Obama" True, due to the tens of thousands service men and women who have been injured or disabled fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq that have been added to the roles of those who receive government checks. -- "50% of those who file a tax return pay nothing in federal taxes" They pay nothing in taxes because of two main reasons. They don't earn enough income to put them in a taxable income bracket or they use the same tax exemptions that give wealthy people like Gov. Romney the ability to pay a tax rate that is lower than most other taxpayers. --"49% of households now receive some sort of government check" Your number includes all of the people in the US that are 62 or older that receive Social Security or Medicare. Are you suggesting they should not receive those benefits after working and paying into the system?-- "nearly every dime we took in is spent on SS welfare unemployment_ _ we borrowed everything else we spent etc" You don't mention the trillions of $ we have borrowed to pay for 2 unfunded wars. Doesn't that count? I will finish with one last thought. Every time you rant about the "sec 8 resident across the street" you loose credibility. Not all people on welfare drop out of school, have babies, abuse alcohol and other drugs. They are not all felons. You might be surprised to find out that many are educated or veterans of wars that were fought in to protect your rights or honest people who are down and out because of circumstances beyond their control.

I've worked my whole life. These republican scum are going to cut out medicare and SS, which I paid into and which is a given to me. Obama is the only choice in this election. Down with right wing hate politics and all republican politicians including County Council!@

Agree with Aggie95 100%. Whats your answer Yonk? I personally know of a 18 year old girl bitten on the arm by a dog. Tried to get on disability.
35 year old guy hurt his foot at a job. Instead of going to school and retrain, trying to get on disability!
Our country is full of these people'
A lot of these cities Aggie95 talks about has a 50% rate in high school graduation. The next wave of democratic voters who will want their cell phones, food, housing,
free medical care, etc. I think the Yonks of the world should have 20% of their salary taken from them to support their ideas!!!! When all the hard working baby boomers retire, and the country is down to 40% paying taxes, what then?

Liberal logic: success is based on luck and government.

Conservative logic: Success is based on hard work and good decisions

Please cite a liberal thinker that has ever said that success is only based on luck and government. What makes you believe that conservatives are the only people who believe success is based on hard work and good decisions. I was taught and believe that a persons success or failure is based on many factors. Factors that are not exclusive to liberals or conservatives or always under ones control.

As I read these blogs it seems to me that whenever a few of our more conservative writers disagree with something that has been written here they usually resort to name calling or some other sort of criticism when responding. The posts by 10:23AM and 9:33PM are examples of what I mean. As a counter action this is even beginning to happen with some of the more liberal posters here in LuLac land. I don't know how liberal 5:33PM is but that post is another example of what I am writing about.
I have a suggestion, post as much as you like and use facts to make all the points you want to make without disrespecting the views of others.

TRUE. AND TWO LIBERALS, BOBBY KENNEDY AND DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN STRESSED SELF SUFFICIENCY FOR THOSE ON WELFARE. RFK WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE POVERTY BUT ALSO ABOUT GENERATIONS ON WELFARE AS A WAY OF LIFE. AND IT WAS BILL CLINTON WHO WITH THE HELP OF A REPUBLICAN CONGRESS WHO PASSED WELFARE REFORM.

Why is crime rising in so many American cities? The answer implicates one of the most celebrated antipoverty programs of recent decades.

5:33pm you, I or anyone else does NOT pay into social security. Social Security is a ponzi scheme. Those working pay for those who are not working. You are sent an annual statement to pacify the idiot minded who don't see through the scam.
I do not agree with privatizing the system. It should be eliminated. It is not up to the government to provide for anyone.

Bill Clinton, RFK and JFK for that matter were not liberals, just democrats. I think any Republican would kill for a Clinton these days. Obama is undoing everything he and the GOP House did in the 1990s for welfare reform.

And to the person who commented on RYan or the GOP getting rid of the Medicare you put money into your entire life: Under Ryan's plan, if you are under 55, nothing with Medicare changes for you. And if you are under 55, his plan was to reform it. But this doesn't really affect those under 55 year old either, because chances are if reform is not made you will not see the money you put in. Medicare is set to go belly up by the time younger generations are elible. Ryan's plan keeps Medicare for those 55 and older and reforms it for those under 55 so those under 55 will actually see benefits from the program.

Aggie 95, Great story about your life. We are all glad you grew up and lived the American Dream. The only problem with your post is that your life story is not the issue. The real issue is how your comments are not as cut and dry as you try to make them. I will give you an example of what I mean. " As of April 1 the United States has achieved the dubious distinction of having the highest corporate tax rate in the world." What you say is true on paper but it is not true in fact. Although the US has the highest statutory corporate (meaning the rate on paper) US corporations actually pay a much lower tax rate due to the many loopholes, credits and deductions our tax code has and the use of overseas tax havens. Tax havens (Bahamas, Cayman Islands, etc.)such as the ones Gov. Romney uses to get his 15% tax rate instead of 34% rate the you and I probably pay.
In 2011 the actual corporate tax rate that US corporations actually paid FELL to a 40 year low of 12.1%, while many made record profits. This rate is much lower than the rate most of our foreign competitors have to pay. In reality the US both taxes it's corporations less and raises less in revenue from corporate taxes than its foreign competitors.
As I said it is not as cut and dry as you make it out to be.
Keep on posting(with a little less drama and a lot more accuracy) you often give us things to think about.

As a presumed hero of yours once said "there you go again". You really do have a flair for the dramatic. Where in my reply to your post did I tell you to SHUT UP? The opposite is true. Just in case you missed it, I wrote "Keep on posting ....... you often give us things to think about."
As a reader of this blog I wonder why you made that comment. It has nothing to do with the reply I made to your post. If you disagree with my reply or someone else's reply, as you have every right to do, go right ahead and post. I for one welcome other peoples opinions, especially when they are thoughtful and based on fact. I have always viewed another persons opinion as a way to get insight on an issue that may be different than mine, therefore causing me to learn more about the issue and how I view it.

Thomas Jefferson said " The purpose of government is to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness. Governments exist for the interests of the governed not the governors."
How much of my labor is my neighbor entitled to? Jefferson might have replied to that question with answer something like this ... As little or as much needed to guarantee that the people living in this great nation live in safety and happiness.
