JEFFERSON AT 270
Today marks the 270th birthday of Thomas Jefferson. If you ever get the opportunity you want to travel to Virginia and trace the steps of Jefferson’s life. The word “awesome” is so trivialized today that I hesitate to use that term. But tours of Monticello, Charlottesville, as well as his graveside will be worthwhile. Standing in front of Jefferson’s grave, I had chills going up and down my spine.
Thomas Jefferson spent forty years in public service. Here's his resume:
Delegate to the
Virginia House of Burgesses (1769-1793)
Continental Congress (1775)
Governor of Virginia (1797-1801)
Minister to France (1785-1789)
Washington's Secretary of State (1789-1793)
John Adam's vice-president (1797-1801)
President of the United States (1801-1809).
Yet on his grave stone, these are the words he chose for posterity:
"Here was buried Thomas Jefferson
Author of the Declaration of American Independence
Author of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom and
Father of the University of Virginia."

And he WAS NOT a Christian and I'm sure that little fact will blow the minds of our local bigots who think all of our founding fathers were Christians.

Have you read Burr, Hamilton and Jefferson by Roger Kennedy?
I think these two early spin doctors abused and framed Burr who was a legitimate war hero.
Hamilton too avoided physical danger on Washingtons staff. I think Hamilton was a scum who deserved shooting!
He insulted Burr again and again. Burr was no angel, but he got screwed by history yet never felt the need to defend himself or his reputation until Hamilton suggested incest with his beloved daughter! Then they rowed
across the Hudson to Wehauken NJ and using Hamiltons pistols he gut shot the little bastard!
Anyone who believes the fallacy that there was once a time in our nation's history where politicians were all honorable gentlemen is fooling themwselves.
But, also it is only fair to judge a man/woman on the "full" record, not just a part of it.
For example, Nixon gave us Watergate and Cambodia. But he also gave us THE EPA, at least a chance at National Health Insurance (that Ted kenney k.o.'d), and increased funding for Great Society programs.
