The LuLac Edition #2668, June 3rd, 2014
This week marks the start of a very interesting and significant undertaking for WYLN TV 35 in Hazleton. The station will be producing and broadcasting a program called “Warrior Summit Outdoors” featuring Staff Sergeant Erik Olson. Olson, a three tour Mideast combat veteran will host the outdoors show. This will not be your father’s Myron Perkins outdoor nature program at all.
Olsen will take fellow warrior veterans on hunting and outdoor excursions. You’ll see them tackle the great outdoors but also hear stories of their service to this country during their various tours of duty. More importantly, you'll hear and see how they are coping with their injuries and service.
At last night’s premiere at the Cinema Draft House on Broad Street, Olsen remarked that past wars always had a draft. Families always had a dog in the fight, had skin in the game. Everybody knew somebody serving in those wars. Not so much these days and these guys have gone to war time and time again.
In the opening episode Olsen gave an introductory biography of himself and why he was motivated to do the show. He also demonstrated the fine art of skeet shooting in Sugarloaf Township at the White Trail Preserve.
Over 200 people attended the premiere last night with local veterans groups on hand to support this effort as well as Hazleton Mayor Joe Yanuzzi.
Sponsors also attended along with the general public. Erik Olsen and his wife Tiffany Cloud Olsen introduced the event and WYLN TV 35 GM Barry Jais offered remarks.
The premiere of the show will air tomorrow night on TV 35, WYLN and you can see it in the following outlets:
In the Hazleton and Mahanoy Area on Service Electric Cablevision dial position 7
In WIlkes-Barre Service Electric Communications dial position 7
Berwick, Weatherly and Schuylkill Areas Cable dial position 7
Shen Heights Cable TV dial position 15.
Warrior Summit Outdoors will be available in the Lehigh Valley Area on Service Electric Cable TV and Communications.
At the start of the video, there was a Public Service announcement from Gary Sinese who essentially endorsed the show.
And WYLN TV’s 35’s Bill Wasko did an overview of one of the best kept secrets in local broadcasting, WYLN TV, Your Local Network.

I look forward to attending the indoor warrior summit. I for one am done with guns since my warrior days are behind me and dont even like to be around them. Perhaps authors who have written on war could be invited. I have always been offended when announcers refer to athletes usually football players as warriors. Get a clue. Aside from Rocky Blier and Pat Tillman none of those guys have an even passing idea as to what a warrior is and does. That said, I am pleased that the event was a success.
Thank you for your lovely write up on our show, Yonki! Matthew Dietz actually introduced my husband to the people at Valor Clinic Foundation who do such great work with our PTSD and homeless veterans. Judge Hughes' late father was one of the members of the Band of Brothers (and played in the HBO series by an actor)--lost much of his feet from frostbite Battle of the Bulge. It was wonderful to have them, veteran organizations, veterans, press and patriotic bikers in the audience. We are hopeful this show will make a big difference to our returned veterans.

Dave, as always right in the thick of getting good stories for this site. Kudos to the Olsens and WYLN TV for doing such a great program. Can't wait to see it.
David, you are correct, WYLN is one of the best outlets in the local media world. Miss you on that station. I think the GM and the young lady Ms. Gownley did a great warm up for this spectacular show.
