Real-estate mogul and reality-television star Donald Trump is seeking the Republican nomination for President. He's the 12th high-profile Republican to enter the 2016 race. But as they say in the infomercials, “But wait there’s more”. But let’s stick to Trump.
Trump made the announcement at the Manhattan tower that bears his name. His speech ranged from foreign policy to President Barack Obama's Health Care overhaul to Trump's achievements in business. He also promised to defeat the Islamic State and negotiate trade deals with China. When he threatened to run the last time, Trump made China a scapegoat in his rhetoric.
It was a speech that was not welcomed with open arms and drew jeers online from a series of Republicans, who fear Trump will turn an otherwise serious Republican primary contest into a circus
The Democratic National Committee had the best line on Twitter "He adds some much needed seriousness that previously been lacking from the GOP field, and we look forward (to) hearing more about his ideas for the nation."
I personally thought Trump was going to announce his "Apprentice" program but rename it "The Quest" and have teams of candidates work as Project Managers to win the nomination.
What is going to be interesting is how Trump will handle the press and debates. The last self made businessman to win a nomination for President was in 1940 when Wendell Wilkie won the GOP nomination. If you are a student of history, Trump is no Wilkie. But he will be fun to watch. Bring on the chimps!
