The LuLac Edition #3720, March 1st, 2018
If you didn’t think people were serious about Property Tax Reform, think again. The two Representatives that have been opposing Property Tax Reform in The Lu and The Lac are going to be challenged in this election. Both are entrenched Democrats. Eddie Day Pashinski in Wilkes Barre’s 121rst and Senator John Blake in the 22nd Senatorial.
Pashinski is going for a 6th tern while Blake is going for a third. In Wilkes Barre, Greg Wolovich is in the hunt for the State Representative seat and in the 22nd GOP conservative activist Frank Scavo is willing to take on Blake.
Our good friend Charlie Urban had this message to his followers about Scavo.
Hello Folks,
Frank Scavo is running against Senator John Blake District 22 Lackawanna ,Luzerne (part) Monroe (part ) As you know in last election Blake promised us that he would vote for SB 76 elimination of school property taxes. When it came up for a vote he broke his promise and voted NO which led to a tie 25-25 the Lt. Gov. voted No and the bill was defeated . Had Blake voted yes SB 76 would of passed Now we have introduced the bill and it will come up for another vote. We need to support Frank Scavo who will support SB 76 100% when elected . I enclosed a petition and appreciate if you can get some signatures, We will be meeting Sat March 3rd 9am in front of Blakes office Please try to attend and bring you friends along As you might know you school taxes is to rise in 8 districts Abington Heights, Lackawanna Trial, Carbondale Area North Pocono, Dunmore, Riversside, Forest City Regional Valley View school districts We need to get HB/SB 76 passed to eliminate school property taxes . Contact your district Rep Marty Flynn Kevin Haggerty . Frank Scavo who is running for the senate seat will support 76 100%
elimination of school property taxes. Your local Scranton paper had 13 pages of foreclosures last year . Where do these people go that lose their homes senior citizens on limited income and middle age citizens with children that lose their jobs through injuries or layoffs that can know longer pay their school taxes/. Where do they go? This all could be resolved if you lawmakers would support HB/ SB 76. Remember you are the Government and those you elect are the employees. You have given them a Cadillac life style GOLD MINE and they are giving you the SHAFT No one should lose their home Hope to see March 3rd Sat 9am Lackawanna Ave in front of Senators Blakes office
Charles Urban Pres Luzrene , Lackawanna property owners member of 87 PTCC groups in Pa.
"School property taxes need to be eliminated entirely. Much too long have our residents footed the bill for our schools, many of which do not even have school aged children. We need to implement a fair, across the board tax in the way of sales and income tax, which visitors, consumers and income earners alike can all contribute regardless of property ownership."
Despite all the tumult of his Presidency, Donald Trump says he's interested in running in 2020. He is even getting the paperwork in order. 5th District GOP Vice Chair Lynette Villano is ready.
One of the first Trump supporters in the region in 2015, Villano has already obtained her Trump 2020 button. Here she is ready to unwrap and sport it.
Trump asked Sen. Pat Toomey, who's worked on a bill to strengthen background checks for gun purchases, whether he left a proposal to raise the gun purchasing age to 21 out of his measure because senators are "afraid of the NRA."
In an exchange during a meeting of a bipartisan group of senators at the White House, Trump asked Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Toomey if their background check bill they authored in the aftermath of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 included a provision that would have raised the age at which individuals could purchase rifles from 18 to 21.
Toomey said it did not.
"You know why? Because you're afraid of the NRA," Trump said
Toomey said after the meeting that he didn't think Trump's comments were aimed at him personally.
"I think he was referring to members of Congress generally," Toomey said.
Toomey said that he hasn't received any money from the NRA since 2010.
"If there's a Republican who has demonstrated he's not afraid of the NRA, that would be me," he said.
Trump's comments on the NRA are notable because Toomey's expanded background check bill from 2013 was opposed by the National Rifle Association.
In a statement in April 2013, the NRA said the Manchin-Toomey bill, which would have expanded background checks at gun shows and over internet sales, would "not prevent the next shooting" and would "not solve violent crime."
Toomey may have been right when he said Trump wasn’t calling him out. But let’s face it Toomey was very lukewarm of Trump in the 2016 race and I bet Trump hasn’t forgotten that. Toomey has taken money from The NRA but they weren’t happy with his bill in 2013.
The NRA has tried to intimidate anyone who doesn’t tow their line. If what Toomey says is true, that he didn’t take money from The NRA, then his win proves that the NRA is a paper tiger. Ed Rendell won statewide elections without NRA support.
The NRA is not happy with Trump, even after articulating Obama like policies. I mean yesterday, off the cuff, Trump even talked about taking guns without due process. Trump may change his mind again, like he has on immigration.
The President has made it more confusing with a stunning rebuke of The NRA and Toomey, poor guy was front and center.
In the next 24 hours, you’ll see The NRA come after Trump and Congressional leaders get pressure from the gun organization.
But the gun debate has quieted down a tad since...wait for it, the spineless Congress went back to work. (Source: CNN, LuLac)

I spit my coffee out laughing, like any "challengers" have a chance, especially perennial candidate and hypocrite Scavo - anyone remember the man who hates national health care and champions the free markets crying like an oversized baby about the price of the epi-pen?
Go away Frank, no better yet, go where you belong - straight to hell.
High property taxes notwithstanding, I could never vote for Frank Scavo. His adoration of Donald Trump makes me question not only his judgement but also his ability to govern. He's as bad as Bob Bolus.
So what is Wolovich's position on his party's gerrymandering? Impeaching a majority of the Supreme Court to advance that gerrymandering?
Hi Dave...
Property tax reform is something that is long overdue. It's about time someone takes a stand.
On the music front, Jimmy Clanton was in concert years ago in Nashville.
We saw him. Not impressed. Jimmy's get up and go...went.
If elected I will get rid of all dem property taxes in a couple two, tree years and bring down da cost of epi-pens.
Youins wit me?
Come on youz guys. Who tinks we can do this.
I say we can. Am I right? Heyna or no?
I agree that I'm going to need more reasons than have been given here to support a Republican.
