Barbara Bush traveled to Wilkes Barre in the 1980s after her husband, George H.W. Bush was Vice President. Her appearance at the Osterhout Library stressed her crusade for young people to read more.
Her father was the publisher of McCall's and Redbook magazines. She married at George H.W. at the age of 19 while the future politico was a young naval aviator. After World War II, the Bushes moved to Texas where he went into the oil business. The Bush couple had six children and have been married longer than any presidential couple in American history.
Paul Mamgo, GOP candidate for Governor in the state recently got some good news. has received the endorsement of Family Research Council (FRC) Action PAC - the legislative affiliate of the Family Research Council, the nation's leading voice for pro-family and pro-faith advocacy.
Paul Mango said: "I am honored to receive FRC Action's endorsement. Their work in support of pro-family and pro-faith issues has been key to advancing the values that have formed our Commonwealth and our nation. I am committed to promoting a Culture of Life, defunding planned parenthood, and stopping liberal bathroom bills like the one advanced by Senator Wagner."
In their endorsement, FRC Action PAC Executive Vice President, Lt. General (Ret.) Jerry Boykin said: "Pennsylvanians are looking for leaders who will keep their word in establishing a culture in which all human life is valued, families flourish, and religious liberty thrives. Mr. Mango's stellar education and success in business make him the candidate who will provide a pragmatic, solution-driven path forward for the people of Pennsylvania. His military credentials as a West Point graduate, and his service as an Army Ranger and paratrooper in the 82nd airborne evidence his desire to protect Pennsylvania's nearly one million veterans and their families.
"As a business leader, he knows the value of smaller government, and a free market economy unburdened by excessive regulation and taxation. We are also encouraged to see that he's made the sanctity of life, the end of ObamaCare, de-funding Planned Parenthood, and a halt to the drug epidemic goals of his public service. Unlike his opponent Scott Wagner, he has vowed to protect the safety and privacy of Pennsylvania's citizens by refusing to advance "Bathroom Bill" legislation. Senator Wagner has sponsored this concerning legislation which puts women and children at risk in intimate areas like showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms and allows the government to punish those who disagree with this policy. We are confident Mr. Mango will work faithfully to represent the people of Pennsylvania as the only true conservative running for governor.
"We are pleased to join other notable organizations and individuals in offering our endorsement and will urge those who care about the future of our nation and our freedoms to support Mr. Mango as well," Boykin concluded.
FRC Action PAC is the latest in a long line of leading conservative endorsements received by the Mango Campaign. Just this week, former Pennsylvania Senator, Republican Presidential candidate, and 2012 Iowa Caucus winner Rick Santorum endorsed Mango's campaign. Paul Mango has also been endorsed by the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania and rated as "Pro-Life" by the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. (Mango campaign)
Recently, bipartisan legislation developed and introduced by U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright was passed by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The PREPARE Act (H.R. 4177) was introduced with Representative Leonard Lance of New Jersey and is cosponsored by 23 House Members. It would improve government preparedness for extreme weather incidents. The bill has already been passed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, clearing the way for action on the House floor later this year.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) placed threats posed by extreme weather in its 2017 High Risk List, an accounting of the most pressing fiscal exposures the federal government faces. From 2010-2017, extreme weather events resulted in:
•482 presidential major disaster declarations;
•90 events that each inflicted at least $1 billion in damage; and
•A total of 2,157 fatalities and $325 billion in economic losses caused by these 90 events.
The PREPARE Act creates an interagency council to recommend the best means of planning and preparing for extreme weather. The bill also strengthens each individual agency’s resilience efforts and provides state and local officials with the best information available and best practices to help them formulate emergency preparation plans tailored to their regional and local needs.
