MITCH MCCONNELL: IT'S CLEAR SENATE WILL VOTE AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP'S NATIONAL EMERGENCY
National emergency declared on Trump’s border wall, explained

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hoped President Donald Trump wouldn't declare a national emergency over border security, but said Monday that he was "obviously" unsuccessful in arguing against the move.
The Senate is likely to pass a resolution to block Trump’s emergency declaration, McConnell told reporters in Louisville.
“I think what is clear in the Senate is there will be enough votes to pass the resolution of disapproval, which will then be vetoed by the president," he said. " And then, in all likelihood, the veto will be upheld in the House.”
McConnell said he had hoped Trump "would not take the national emergency route."
"Once you decide to do that, I said I would support it, but I was hoping he wouldn't take that particular path," he said.
The latest: Rand Paul says he'll vote to block Trump's emergency declaration
Asked by a Courier-Journal reporter whether he was concerned future Democratic presidents would use a similar tactic to fund issues like climate change or gun control, McConnell said he was.
"That's one reason I argued — obviously without success — to the president that he not take this route," McConnell said.
Trump declared a national emergency in February after Congress sent him a bipartisan funding bill that didn't include his $5.7 billion demand for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The emergency declaration allows him to free up billions from other sources to pay for the barrier, which he claims is necessary to reduce the flow of drugs and gang members into the country.
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 245-182 in support of the resolution blocking Trump's declaration. Thirteen Republicans joined all Democrats in backing the measure. (CBS, LuLac)

64 PERCENT OF AMERICANS THINK TRUMP HAS COMMITTED CRIMES

By a wide margin, American voters believe their president has committed crimes.
Sixty-four percent of U.S. voters say they believe Donald Trump did something illegal before he was elected president, while 24 percent believe he did not, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
Sixty-five percent of independents and 89 percent of Democrats said they believe Trump committed crimes before taking office. But only a minority of Republicans surveyed agree: 33 percent, compared with 48 percent who said they do not believe Trump committed crimes before being elected.
Voters are roughly split on the question of whether Trump has done anything illegal as president, with 43 percent saying he has and 45 percent indicating he has not.
Trump’s credibility doesn’t fare well when compared with that of Michael Cohen, his former lawyer, who is set to begin a three-year prison term in May after pleading guilty to lying to Congress about deals he pursued on behalf of Trump.

NADLER’S VERY SMART MOVE
Congressman Jerrold Nadler (Photo: CNN)
House Judiciary committee chair Jerrold Nadler has done a brilliant job in releasing news that his committee will look into more than 81 individuals or companies associated with Donald Trump. Some say this is overreach.
The whiny sycophants of Trump are saying it is unfair. But I guess it wasn’t fair then to drag Hillary Clinton through the mud over 4 deaths. By the way, she bested all of the impotent Republican boys.
Now they whine and cry and say that Diaper Don should not be investigated for all these things. Here’s what I say to this.
If you catch a guy carry a bomb down the street and arrest him, and then you go in his back yard and see another 10 bombs coming pout of his garden, do you not investigate This party that used to be Law and Order now is behaving like a bunch of third graders.

TRUMP’S FULL SPEECH AT CPAC

As a public service of this blog, we are going to post President Trump’s full speech from CPAC today. This is it in its entirety of vitriol and hate. And of course let us not leave out madness either!

MICHELLE MILKEN’S DISGUSTING SPEECH AT CPAC

GOP firebrand Michelle Milken gave a pretty tawdry speech the other day at CPAC. Only a Republican right wing nut would denigrate one of their party’s past nominees.

CARTWRIGHT AMONG MOST EFFECTIVE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS

Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)

Representative Matt Cartwright remains one of the most effective Democrats in the U.S. Congress, according to a new report released last week by the Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL).
During the 115th Congress, which spanned from January 2017 through the first days of 2019, Cartwright was the fourth most effective Democrat in the House of Representatives, according to a CEL score that measures each member’s productivity.
It was the third consecutive term in which Cartwright –who currently represents Pennsylvania’s Eighth District– exceeded expectations as a lawmaker. In fact, the congressman was one of about a dozen members “who have been in the 'Exceeds Expectations' category for their entire congressional careers,” according to the CEL report, which was released on Feb. 27.
“I'm thankful for this recognition, and I'm blessed to keep working hard for the people of northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Rep. Cartwright.
The CEL score is based on 15 separate metrics, which include the bills each member has sponsored, how far those bills moved along the legislative process, and the importance of the issues they seek to tackle.
The report highlights how Democrats were effectively able to work across the aisle and advance policy in the 115th Congress, even before their party won back the House in last year’s midterm election. “Whereas most members of the minority party struggle to even receive a hearing on most of their bills within Congress, those on this list achieved successes on a broad range of substantive issues,” the report says.
