CARTWRIGHT ASSUMES LEAD IN 8TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RACE

After a spirited challenge from a lying, mudslinging opponent Matt Cartwright is on his way to another term in Congress. Jim Bognet held a lead of 20,000 at one point but through the day on Wednesday that margin was dissipated when mail in votes were counted. As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Cartwright led with 167,466 votes to Bognet’s 160,109.

Counties are allowed to accept new mail-in ballots up until Friday at 5 p.m. as long as they are postmarked by 8 p.m. Tuesday, when polling stations closed. Mail-in ballots have tended to favor Democratic candidates because Democratic voters relied on them more than Republican voters.

President Donald Trump’s campaign, citing a state law, has asked the U.S. Supreme Court again to block any ballots that arrive after Election Day from counting. Trump did that mostly to alter the outcome of his race, but a ruling in his favor could affect the congressional race, too. However, the mail-in ballots that Luzerne and Monroe counties tallied Wednesday all arrived before the 8 p.m. Election Day deadline.

Cartwright on The Lac by  nearly 20,000 and The Lu by polling slightly under 1600 votes.

This is the national Republican party’s fifth attempt to get a grasp on this seat. They failed each time with a variety of candidates. A Health care provider in 2012, a race car driver in 2014, a Coroner in 2016 and a Wall Street businessman in 2018. The aforementioned four were honorable opponents who if elected would not do as good a job as Cartwright but would pass with a push. By defeating Bognet, Cartwright spared us the specter of a mini Trump who proved he’d lie and cheat to get power.

FACEBOOK AND TWITTER IMMEDIATELY CLAMPED DOWN ON TRUMP'S POSTS THAT PREMATURELY DECLARED ELECTION VICTORY, BUT THEY DID SO IN VERY DIFFERENT WAYS

Facebook and Twitter immediately clamped down on Trump's posts that prematurely declared election victory, but they did so in very different ways

Both Facebook and Twitter put rules in place before the US presidential election restricting content from candidates claiming premature victory.

In social-media posts, and then in an early-morning speech after Election Day, President Donald Trump falsely claimed he had already won the election before the full results were in.

Facebook and Twitter immediately labeled Trump's posts — but they did so in different ways, and the social-media giants reacted differently to other claims from Trump.

In the run-up to Tuesday's US presidential election, the social-media giants Facebook and Twitter said they would take action against posts from candidates who claimed premature victory.

During remarks at the White House early Wednesday morning, Trump did exactly that.

"We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election," Trump said during remarks at the White House.

The full results for the US election were still not in even hours after Trump's remarks.

Even before Trump made his speech, he had already signaled on both Facebook and Twitter that he'd claim victory.  (Business Insider).

CARTWRIGHT ANNOUNCES $1.8 MILLION USDA LOAN FOR FIREHOUSE IN OLD FORGE

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright announced a $1,832,000 loan awarded through the USDA Rural Development’s Community Facility Grant and Loan Program to construct an addition onto the Eagle McClure Hose Company Number One firehouse in Old Forge.

“Our fire companies rely on federal funding to help them provide the best emergency response service that they can,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “It’s critical that our brave firefighters have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively. This investment will help Eagle McClure Hose Company continue to carry out their mission of saving lives and protecting the Old Forge community.”

The loan has a 35-year term and a rate of 2.25%. The addition to the Eagle McClure Hose Company Number One firehouse will be approximately 5,000-square-feet and will be used to house fire apparatus. This addition will include replacing the generator and restrooms, as well as remodeling the garage into offices and team rooms. This building will house the existing fire company in addition to the two fire companies that are currently housed at the Old Forge borough building. The addition and interior renovations to the building will improve the traffic flow for fire company members, add fire safety walls, additional plumbing and increase room utilization.

CASEY ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF HYNDMAN CELLULAR TOWER PROJECT

Senator Bob Casey (Photo: LuLac archives)

U.S. Senator Bob Casey is announcing the completion of a project to provide cellular service in Bedford County via Hyndman Cellular Tower, ensuring that thousands of Bedford County residents have reliable service. After train derailments and feedback from local and state first responders highlighted the urgent need for better emergency response telecommunications, Senator Casey advocated for AT&T to prioritize rural areas like Hyndman for First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) tower sites.

“I am thrilled that Hyndman tower is up and running. I strongly advocated for this project for more than two years because the people of Bedford County deserve access to strong and reliable cell service. It is vital that our first responders have fast, reliable and dedicated coverage across the state to help them effectively and efficiently address incidents and connect to the vital information they need–every day and in every emergency,” said Senator Casey.

In 2017, a train carrying hazardous materials derailed in the town of Hyndman, Pennsylvania, forcing 900 residents to evacuate for three days. The evacuation an emergency response were hindered, as the area was a dead zone. In April 2018, Senator Casey wrote to AT&T asking that they prioritize rural areas like Hyndman for FirstNet tower sites. FirstNet, established through the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, authorized a public-private partnership to build a nationwide public safety broadband network, with the goal of creating a national communications network for first responders. Residents in these areas will also gain access to these networks. Due to Senator Casey’s advocacy, AT&T decided to install a tower at Hyndman, leading to the completion of the project.
