 WRITE ON WEDNESDAY #2

With Representatives Dan Mueser and Fred Keller voting to delegitimize the election of President Elect Joseph Biden (as well as their own) we fele need to share with you the editorial from Times Shamrock. We second the thoughts and think both Meuser and Keller are a real disgrace.

MEUSER SHOULD SUPPORT THE WILL OF THE VOTERS, NOT TRUMP'S

U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser is at it again.

The Back Mountain Republican and seven other GOP congressmen from Pennsylvania say they will reject certification of the Biden slate of electors chosen by the state’s voters when the House and Senate hold a joint session Wednesday.

In doing so, Meuser is casting his lot with Qanon conspiracy theorists, dishonest right-wing pundits and a president who betrayed his own mendacity and hunger for power in a recorded phone conversation over the weekend, trying to bully officials from Georgia into “recalculating” his loss there. All are committed to thwarting the will of America’s voters. In lending them aid, Meuser is doing a disservice to his constituents and his country.

Meuser and his colleagues argue they are motivated by concerns that election-related decisions by the Wolf Administration and what they call the “rogue Pennsylvania Supreme Court” violated the U.S. Constitution.

But the proper venue for that argument is the U.S. Supreme Court, which has refused to consider challenges to the Pennsylvania court’s decisions.

In fact, dozens of judges in state and federal courts across the land have consistently ruled against Trump and his allies and not just on procedural grounds.

One of those judges, a Trump appointee on a federal appeals court in Philadelphia noted: “Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here.”

Two months after Election Day, neither Trump nor his lawyers have been able to find the “illegal” votes they say cost him the election or offer any real evidence of fraud in a court of law.

Meuser, who signed an ill-advised legal brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to consider a bid by the Texas attorney general to disenfranchise Pennsylvania voters last month, likely understands that. But he is seemingly more driven by fear of Trump’s angry base than any high-minded concerns over what he and his allies call “election integrity.”

At this point, it appears nothing will sway Trump supporters convinced by the lame-duck president that a far-fetched deep-state cabal has stolen the presidency from him. That dangerous notion is only buttressed when elected officials such as Meuser lend their support to his efforts, even as they deceptively cloak that support as an effort to restore public trust in the system — trust that has been eroded by Trump’s tall tales.

Not all Republicans have sacrificed their integrity. Notably, senators Pat Toomey, Mitt Romney, Mitch McConnell and others say they will support certification of Biden as the winner.

In Sunday’s Washington Post, all 10 living former defense secretaries, including two who served under Trump and several who worked for other GOP presidents, showed how alarmed they are by Trump’s threat to American values by warning against involving the military in any election dispute.

“Our elections have occurred,” they wrote. “Recounts and audits have been conducted. Appropriate challenges have been addressed by the courts. Governors have certified the results. And the electoral college has voted. The time for questioning the results has passed; the time for the formal counting of the electoral college votes, as prescribed in the Constitution and statute, has arrived.”

It is not too late for Dan Meuser to do what is right and disavow a vote in support of Donald Trump’s dangerous crusade to hold on to the White House.

On Wednesday, his constituents and all of America will be watching.
