TALE OF TWO CONGRESSMEN
LuLac has two Congressman. It used to be that both Wilkes-Barre and Scranton had a Congressman each. Back in the day Dan Flood and Joe McDade worked in tandem to get things done. When there were major national issues, both of them pretty much had a consensus. Big issues like the war in Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement, both pretty much were on the same page.
Even into the 21st century Paul Kanjorski and Don Sherwood came together on helping defense plants stay here. When 911 happened both men condemned the killing of innocent Americans in a terrorist attack.
Our tale of two Congressmen was not a fairy tale, there were disagreements to be sure but it was typical of this region at the time. Disagree but keep your eye on the ball to help grow your areas.
But alas consensus on national issues has gone by the wayside. Even the premeditated attack on the halls of Congress has given us a clear picture of who we are and what we have representing us in Congress these days.
Congressman Matt Cartwright says this about the attack on the place where he works.
Last Wednesday, the President of the United States incited an attack on our Capitol. Members of Congress had to duck under bulletproof chairs and staffers barricaded doors. It was an insurrection intended to stop the certification of Joe Biden as President, inspired by the President’s lie that the election was stolen and his calls to supporters to “fight hard” and “stop” the certification.
I have called on the President to resign, but it’s clear he has no intentions of letting the country heal by stepping aside.
This is a Constitutional emergency, and I am joining a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Pennsylvania Republican Senator Pat Toomey, in calling for President Trump to be removed. Preferably, by the process outlined in the 25th Amendment, but I will vote for impeachment if necessary.
No President should be able to use their power to attack our democracy. Congress will ensure the peaceful transition of power continues and Joe Biden is sworn in on January 20th.
Cartwright along with the number three leader of the GOP in Congress Liz Cheney says Trump needs to be impeached. He represents the 8th.
Dan Meuser who is in the seat because Lou Barletta fell under the spell of President Trump (and bought a house in the district to run in it) disagrees with Cartwright and most of America. Dan who AFTER the attacks voted against the Biden electors even after it was clear the former Vice President won and even after marauders stormed his place of work now says impeachment or accountability will DIVIDE US.
From today's Citizens' Voice:
“I hoped that this terrible national setback would lead us to attempt to come together rather than continue the pattern of vindictiveness and scoring political points at the expense of the people as we have experienced over the last two years. President Trump is leaving office in eight days. An impeachment proceeding will do nothing but divide us further, rather than preparing for President-elect Biden to be sworn in, and spending this time on important matters to our nation like vaccine distribution and economic recovery.”
This guy who stood with Trump on various stages in the state, watched Trump insult his opponents and rev up people with lies and chaos all of a sudden DOESN'T WANT TO DIVIDE US? This guy who VOTED AGAINST HIS OWN ELECTION AFTER THE CAPITOL HE WORKED IN WAS DESECRATED WITH THUGS all of a sudden wants to move on? This guy who championed a President whose stock in trade now worries about vindictiveness?
Really Dan? This guy and his party who conducted investigations against anyone who sneezed the wrong way in front of their lord and savior Donald Trump now think holding someone accountable is vindictive?
Bottom line here is we used to have two Congressmen who we could count on to do the right thing., It went without saying that each was a patriot. hat isn't the case anymore. We know who loves democracy and America and we know who doesn't.
More from the people on Meuser:
Editor: For four years our republic, constitution, government, science and basic truth have been under a constant assault led by a President who has spread over 25,000 lies or deceptive statements. It has been estimated that Barack Obama averaged near or less than two lies per year while in office.
Approximately 60 cases alleging election fraud have been brought by the Trump administration or on its behalf. Approximately 60 cases alleging election fraud have been dismissed by federal and state courts.
The lying, the attacks on America’s governing institutions, fraudulent claims of a fraudulent election and telling mobs to descend on the nation’s capital to overturn a legitimate election are a violation of the president’s oath to “protect and defend” the American Constitution.
It was stunning to watch on Jan. 6 as members of the Senate and of the House of Representatives first decried the violence and then, without a pause, without hesitation and without embarrassment again made the same claims that incited the violent mob of domestic terrorists to acts of treason and sedition.
The words disingenuous and duplicitous are the mildest I can find to describe the self-entitled such as U.S. Dan Meuser, who keeps up a mindless chant of support for the 25,000 lies, the denial of facts which nearly 60 courts have ruled upon and what more than 81 million voters have determined.
Meuser, along with his fellow-travelers, is guilty of promulgating what happened in the Capitol on Jan. 6. Meuser is directly and fully responsible for the death of five people present at the insurrection.
