HISTORY LESSON

Adam Clayton Powell (Photo: Wikipedia)

Right now there is a vote going on in the Congress to strip the Georgia Congress woman of her position on the Education Committee. Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is singing the blues because the Democratic Congress is being unfair. He is saying they are overstepping their bounds and are just out for political vengeance against said Congresswoman (and I use the term woman loosely here) who was just speaking her mind. The Democrats are doing things in Congress that never, ever happened before.

Well, the very impotent and hysterical Mr, McCarthy is wrong. See the Democrats take care of their own when there is a problem. It’s right out in the open for all to see. They don’t enable or make recuses for their members.

In the 1960s the Democrat Congress censured Congressman Adam Clayton Powell  for mismanaging his committee's budget, taking trips abroad at public expense, and missing meetings of his committee.  His  personal conduct—he had taken two young women at government expense with him on overseas travel—(he went young God bless him!!!) his absenteeism as well as his disregard and disrespect for House rules were key factors in his banishment. This was a man who through the year was a fierce advocate for Civil Rights.  Powell worked closely with Clarence Mitchell Jr.,  the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Washington, D.C., to try to gain justice in federal programs. Biographer Hamilton described the NAACP as "the quarterback that threw the ball to Powell, who, to his credit, was more than happy to catch and run with it. His committee was key to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1965.

Powell ;  expanded the minimum wage to include retail workers; and worked for equal pay for women; he supported education and training for the deaf, nursing education, and vocational training; he led legislation for standards for wages and work hours; as well as for aid for elementary and secondary education, and school libraries.

Yet the 90th Congress censured him and barred him from taking his seat for his bad behavior. He was re-elected after all of that but was stripped of his seniority too.

Unlike the Georgia Congresswoman, Powell didn’t threaten to assassinate an ex President and Speaker of the House.

Hey McCarthy, read a history book about the PLACE WHERE YOU WORK before you start shooting your mouth off.  Adam Clayton Powell’s legacy and life work didn’t matter to the Democrats.

Yet present da Republicans enable and encourage this thuggish, unpatriotic treacherous behavior.

That’s all we need to know about these Republicans whining like little baby snowflakes.

WHY IMPEACHMENT MATTERS

It is evident that ex President Trump will be acquitted by the Senate. But here’s why it matters.

1.       Evidence of this President’s treachery will be entered into the public record. Forever.

2.       No matter how the Republicans spin it, he and those who supported him will be stained by history.

3.       The fact that his party went to hell and back with him will be noted. History will judge them as accomplices much like the Gestapo and Vichy were regarded in Germany and France during World War II.

4.       The man who said he’d make America great again nearly tore it apart. The evidence brought out at trial will put Trump in a bad light. Forever.

5.       A trial will acquit Trump. He can yell to the high heavens that he was acquitted. But everyone knows he’s guilty. Trump will be regarded as the new O.J. Plain and simple.

WHAT GREEN SAID

CNN reported actions by Greene on social media in 2018 and 2019. In one instance, she “liked” a comment on a discussion of how to remove Pelosi, the House Speaker, which said “a bullet to the head would be quicker”. Greene also liked comments about executing FBI agents for being part of the “Deep State”. That conspiracy theory holds that a permanent government of bureaucrats and intelligence agents worked to thwart Donald Trump. A key propagator, former White House strategist Steve Bannon, has said the theory is for “nut cases”.

CNN also reported that in 2018, in answer to a commenter on her own post about the Iran nuclear deal who asked “now do we get to hang” Obama and Clinton, Greene wrote: “Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”

Hillary Clinton said: “This woman should be on a watch list. Not in Congress.”
