SUPER EXCITED ON UNIVERSAL PLANTING DAY

Wednesday was universal planting day for the Wilkes-Barre Health Department’s five community gardens. The program is part of the Safe and Healthy Communities grant from the State Health Department and administered by the WBHD. This year’s participants are New Roots Recovery Center on Water Street, The Greenhouse on South Franklin, The Restored Church on Meade and Northampton, Community Counseling Services on Pennsylvania Avenue and the King’s College Shoval Center for Community Engagement on Madison Street.

Staff and volunteers planted today and will maintain the spots through the season. When harvest time comes, donations will be made to local entities and neighbors so that the mission to promote access to healthy foods and vegetables is met in the city.

The Madison Street site will serve as a focal point and home base for The Garden Goombas, two gentlemen who will continue their mission to educate folks on the finer points of gardening. They will also hold programs for individuals who are sometimes not fully included into social endeavors like this.

Many thanks to Larry O’Mailia’s Garden Center, FNCB Bank on the Square in Wilkes-Barre, a plant donation from the Edwards family, the DPW crew in the city for their help and last but not least, Joe Stupino (highly recommended by co-worker Joey Rodano and Dr. Frank Colella, highly recommended by all of my West Pittston cousins the Yonki’s, McDonnell’s, Gillespie’s, the whole slew of them to grow an already successful effort in the city.

Kudos to my boss Hank Radilski, my office partner Matt Engel, Jim Decker for his help on the road, our Mayor George Brown and the entire WBHD staff for making this day a reality.

Take a look at this from Madison Street. With the help of Maura Modrovsky, King’s College Student and Community volunteers this site will be managed by The Goombas throughout the summer. And beyond. The boys were humming “Don’t Fence Me In” when working on this today. 

 

 WHAT A COUP WOULD BE LIKE? 

 

Representative Adam Kinzinger  appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 Wednesday where he responded to the growing sentiment among some supporters of former President Donald Trump, calling for a military coup to oust President Biden. This comes on the heels of former Trump National Security Advisor and retired Army general Michael Flynn saying over the weekend that there should be a coup in the U.S. “A lot of people, you know, imagine that a coup or an armed insurrection is just going to be like camping out with the boys. It's going to be a great time drinking some PBRs. That's not true,” Kinzinger said. “There’s gonna be death, and that death is gonna be people you love.” Kinzinger went on to address the belief among some Trump supporters that the military would be on their side if there were to be a government overthrow. “It's time that we get past fetishizing the violence in this. It’s time that we get past fetishizing this idea of overthrowing the government, and the second amendment encouraging us to overthrow the government,” Kinzinger said. “That is reserved for times, frankly, if there is a military coup, which won’t happen because no military member in the United States military that takes the oath seriously would participate.”

We are living in scary times. For people to deny there was an insurrection tells you that the crazies are trying to take over. Tht does nt bode well for our Republic. (CNN, LuLac) 

 

POSTMASTER GENERAL LOUIS DEJOY FACING FEDERAL CAMPAIGN FINANCE INVESTIGATION OVER FORMER BUSINESS

 

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is facing a federal investigation over campaign contributions made by employees of his former business, a spokesman said.

The Washington Post earlier reported on the investigation, which is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a unit of the Department of Justice.

According to the newspaper, which cited multiple unnamed sources familiar with the matter, agents have in recent weeks been asking current and former employees about their political giving.

One unnamed person told the Post that prosecutors hit DeJoy himself with a subpoena for information. The Washington Post first reported on the investigation, which is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a unit of the Department of Justice.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are 61 million people in the United States with a disability.  From newborns to the oldest seniors, disability is part of our communities and families.

For the over 1.8 million Pennsylvanians with disabilities and all those across our Nation with similar circumstances, Senator Casey believes they should have the same opportunities as people without disabilities: to secure a quality education, to have comprehensive health care, and to work at a good job where it is possible to be economically self-sufficient.  He also believes people with disabilities should be free from the prejudice and bias of low expectations and limited opportunities.
