WILKES-BARRE NAACP KING PROGRAM GOING VIRTUAL THIS FRIDAY
The Wilkes-Barre branch of the NAACP will present their annual Martin Luther King Junior event this Friday in a virtual setting. The theme of this year’s event is “It Starts with me”. Originally scheduled at the Courthouse, the January 14th event will kick off other planned community activities to commemorate the day. “Given the increased cases of COVID recently, the branch felt that we’d do a virtual event to honor Dr. King in this community” stated Melissa Rivers Third Vice President of the branch.
Guest speakers will be Congressman Matt Cartwright, Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge and NAACP Life member Lesa Gelb, State Representative Eddie Day Pashinski, Mayor George Brown and other community and branch members who will be prerecorded. First Vice President David S. Yonki said, “The King Day program is a long standing traditional event that has always featured a unique and compelling message about the mission of equality and social justice that is timeless”.
The event starts at 6pm. Reservations can be made through the NAACP Facebook page or can be viewed on the You Tube Channel by putting Wilkes-Barre NAACP You Tube in the search bar. President Jimel Calliste who is coordinating the program with Executive Committee member Daryl Lewis stated, “The celebration of Dr. King’s life is the branch’s first program event of our yearly work plan. Whether it is in person as was the branch custom or the use of Zoom technology in this challenging time, the legacy of Dr. King is the inspirational gift he left to us. It is fitting that our event fall on the eve of the actual birth of Dr. King and we encourage people to celebrate his life with us this Friday night”.

TRUMP ON NPR
Peabody Award Winner NPR Morning host Steve Inskeep and 2020 loser Diaper Don, still lying and still full of shit. (Photo: AP)
After 6 years of trying, NPR Morning News hosts Steve Inskeep finally had an interview with Donald Trump. I usually wake to WVIA FM with the alarm set for 6:50am. But I took an extra time to snooze a bit until I heard the host say “Mr. President, I’ve been trying to get this interview with you since 2015!” Awakening from a twilight sleep, I thought, “Carter? Nah. George W?” Then I heard the voice. “Trump, it was Trump. What the ++ck!!?”
Trump had avoided NPR and I thought this was the strategy he was trotting out to rehabilitate himself with reasonable people like Richard Nixon did in the 1960s. After all if there was a “New Nixon” in 1968, it is not out of the realm of possibility that there could be a “New Trump”.
Right?
WRONG!!!
Trump did not disappoint. Trump called Mitch McConnell a "loser" in the NPR interview. He seemingly blamed McConnell over GOP senators who won't embrace his false claims about the 2020 election. We all know the former president has repeatedly lashed out at McConnell for not endorsing his "Big Lie." When Inskeep asked Trump why he thought Republican senators like Mike Rounds of South Dakota have gone against the former president's false claims about 2020, Trump said, "Because Mitch McConnell is a loser. And frankly, Mitch McConnell, if he were on the other side and if Schumer were put in his position, he would have been fighting this like you've never seen before." Trump went after the South Dakota Republican said the 2020 presidential election was "as fair as we've seen." In response, Trump called Rounds a "jerk" and said he "went woke”. CNN aired an interview on Tuesday when McConnell said, "I think Sen. Rounds told the truth about what happened in the 2020 election. And I agree with him."
It's been well over a year since Election Day 2020 and Trump has still not acknowledged that he lost in a free and fair election to President Joe Biden. Inskeep asked him about the dozens of lawsuits filed which challenged the 2020 election results and didn't win a single one. Despite Trump's claims, there's no evidence of widespread or mass voter fraud linked to the 2020 election. Trump responded with generalities like “Like anyone has ever seen before”, on the Arizona recount, "If you look at the numbers, if you look at the findings in Arizona, if you look at what's going on in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, by the way -- and take a look at Wisconsin -- they're finding things that nobody thought possible."
On how he can’t understand why Biden won: . "How come Biden couldn't attract 20 people for a crowd? How come when he went to speak in different locations, nobody came to watch, but all of a sudden he got 80 million votes?" Uh the country has grown and more people voted this time around. Crowds don’t vote: PEOPLE DO! Once!
On why he lost: "I said, wait a minute. I'm the president of the United States. They just rigged an election. Hundreds of thousands of votes in different states. They just rigged an election." Rigged? Trump laid the groundwork for that word when he was running against Hillary. In 2016 there was no evidence of fraud and HRC exited with class. In 2020 despite the lies there is simply zero evidence of widespread voter fraud -- at either the national or state level. Trump exited like an ASS!
The interview was supposed to last 15 minutes, but Trump got uncomfortable when Inskeep brought up the deadly invasion of the Capitol last year by a mob of Trump’s supporters. shortly after the nine-minute mark, Trump suddenly ended the call because he is a spineless coward disguising as a thug bully.
“WHAT A MORON…JESUS CHRIST!”
You have to love Anthony Fauci who has appeared before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions to help answer members' questions about science and the response to the Covid-19 public health crisis. These hearings have been the basis for an unfortunate pattern: Sen. Rand Paul keeps picking fights with Fauci, which the Kentucky Republican invariably loses.
In fact, the process has become rather predictable. Every few months, the GOP senator, whose background as an ophthalmologist leads him to claim some degree of expertise on scientific matters, comes up with dubious claims (he argued in September 2020, for example, that New York had already reached "herd immunity") or suspect conspiracy theories (Paul claimed in May 2021 that the NIH funded dangerous gain-of-function research in Wuhan), which puts Fauci on the defensive, trying to explain reality.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, sparred with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., at a hearing Tuesday after Paul attacked him for appearing to disagree with scientists who said the coronavirus originated in a lab in China. Instead of waiting for the senator to push new nonsense, Fauci seemed to go on the offensive yesterday.
"What happens when [Paul] gets out and accuses me of things that are completely untrue is that all of a sudden that kindles the crazies out there, and I have threats upon my life, harassment of my family and my children, with obscene phone calls because people are lying about me," Fauci said at the Senate hearing. He took note of a man who was en route to Washington, D.C., a few weeks ago, armed with an AR-15 and magazines of ammunition, with the intention of murdering Fauci.
The White House's chief medical adviser added, "So I asked myself, 'Why would senator want to do this?' You go to Rand Paul's website and you see 'Fire Dr. Fauci' with a little box that says, 'Contribute here.' You can do $5, $10, $20, $100." Looking at the senator, Fauci concluded, "So you are making a catastrophic epidemic for your political gain."
The swarm ridden Senator looked like a kid being punished and sat there mute. But the kicker was when Fauci was finished with his testimony he was heard to say on a live microphone, “What a moron, Jesus Christ” referring to the imbecilic Senator from Kentucky.
Truthful and priceless!
REP. CARTWRIGHT HOSTS EVENT TO BUILD MOMENTUM TO RESTORE PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE TO NEPA
Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)
Representative Matt Cartwright hosted an event with local elected officials, transportation officials, business leaders and Amtrak and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) representatives to discuss how to take full advantage of the historic opportunities provided by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and restore passenger rail service from Scranton to New York City.
“Since I got to Congress, I have been leading the charge to bring passenger rail service back to Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Rep. Cartwright. “We know that putting our area back on the rail map will grow businesses, create jobs and boost tourism, bringing in billions of dollars in economic development. I’m proud to stand with local, state and federal officials to make sure our region takes full advantage of the historic federal investment in passenger rail expansion.”
The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provides $66 billion for rail investment, including funds for Amtrak and the FRA to improve existing lines and expand service to new areas. Amtrak’s 2021 expansion plan included three round trips between Scranton, PA and New York City. In August, Amtrak estimated that this new service would generate $87 million in annual economic activity, plus $2.9 billion from one-time investments along the corridor.
Rep. Cartwright was joined via Zoom by Reps. Susan Wild (PA-07) and Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), who also supported the enactment of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act."The expansion of passenger rail as part of the bipartisan infrastructure law will do so much for our small business owners, manufacturers, tourism, and more, from lowering the cost of doing business to empowering our communities to reap the benefits of fewer congested highways and roads,” said Rep. Susan Wild. “Plus, it’s a vital part of broadening our transportation options to address climate change. I'm extremely proud to have joined with my colleagues to get this done."
“The Lackawanna Cut-Off Restoration Project to re-establish the rail connection between New York City and Scranton is crucial for tens of thousands of my constituents across North Jersey as well as many more families in Pennsylvania, and is another way that the bipartisan infrastructure bill is bringing funds to our region,” said Rep. Sherrill. “Increased access to these historically central rail lines means reduced congestion on commutes, expansions of economic opportunity and jobs, and an increase in tourism and the revenue it brings. This project will strengthen our communities and grow our regional economy, which is why I’m so excited to join today with Rep. Cartwright, Amtrak, the Federal Railroad Administration, and key stakeholders to finally get this done.”
The historic investment in rail was applauded by local business and community leaders, including Chris Barrett, President and CEO of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.
“From small mom and pop shops to our large resorts, the return of the Amtrak passenger rail service will be a game changer for our local economy and the more than 30-million guests who visit the Pocono Mountains every year,” said Barrett. “In addition, our residents will benefit from an enchanted quality of life with easy access to and from New York City.”
GOV WOLF: ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT, FAITH, SUSTAINABILITY, IMMIGRATION ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS SUPPORT VETO OF RESOLUTION THAT WOULD HAVE IMPEDED CLIMATE CRISIS RESPONSE
Governor Tom Wolf (Photo: LuLac archives)
Following Governor Wolf’s veto of Senate Concurrent Regulatory Review Resolution 1 yesterday, more than half a dozen clean energy, environment, faith, sustainability, and immigration advocacy organizations have expressed their support for the disapproval of the concurrent resolution, which would have prevented Pennsylvania from entering the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Participating in RGGI in an opportunity for Pennsylvania to address the ongoing climate crisis and improve health for all Pennsylvanians.
Natural Resources Defense Council, Climate & Clean Energy Program
“Senate Concurrent Resolution 1 was an anti-climate resolution that would have prevented Pennsylvania from realizing the pollution reductions, job creation opportunities, and economic development offered by RGGI. Gov. Wolf’s veto of the resolution is a signal of his support for a clean and healthy future for our people, our environment, and our economy.
As the climate crisis worsens and Pennsylvania sees more climate disasters, it’s time for the General Assembly to stop its obstructionism and delay tactics. The General Assembly should instead ensure the equitable investment of RGGI proceeds in environmental justice communities and energy transition communities by passing the RGGI Investments Act,” said Mark Szybist, senior attorney.
PennFuture
“This resolution is the latest attempt by lawmakers to obstruct the will of Pennsylvanians. A strong and growing majority in the commonwealth support climate action and Gov. Wolf is following through after more than a decade of legislative neglect,” said Rob Altenburg, PennFuture’s Senior Director for Energy and Climate. “PennFuture strongly supports Pennsylvania enacting a carbon reduction program that creates jobs and invests in communities historically plagued by pollution and decades of fossil fuel industry malfeasance.”
Clean Air Council
“I applaud Gov. Wolf for swiftly using his veto pen to reject SCRRR-1 and push back on dangerous legislative inaction on the climate crisis. Pennsylvania’s participation in RGGI is projected to cut up to 227 million tons of carbon pollution from power plants this decade, while creating family-sustaining jobs, generating hundreds of millions of dollars annually for reinvestment in Pennsylvania communities, and delivering billions of dollars in public health benefits. Because of the cynical and outrageous games played by state legislators in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s participation in RGGI has already been unacceptably delayed.
Not only is SCRRR-1 wrong on the substance and rightfully deserving of a veto, but it is also untimely and should be considered null and void. Pennsylvania’s Regulatory Review Act affords the legislature a clear, unambiguous period of time to vote to disapprove regulations, and the General Assembly missed their deadline to adopt SCRRR-1 by a mile. I thank Gov. Wolf for his leadership and urge the legislature to focus instead on making critical investments for the people of Pennsylvania,” said Joseph Otis Minott, Esq., Executive Director and Chief Counsel.
CleanPower PA
“Thank you to Gov. Wolf for rejecting this misguided resolution and protecting this critical action to cut carbon pollution, cut consumer energy costs, and create jobs through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). With this veto, he is standing with the overwhelmingly majority of Pennsylvanians who support RGGI and standing up for the public’s health and for the state’s economic future.
The governor’s veto aligns with Pennsylvanians’ desire to tackle climate change and invest in the high-quality clean energy jobs of the future. RGGI also will generate hundreds of millions of dollars annually, which could be used to help communities and workers affected by the continuing transition in our energy markets. Without RGGI, they could be left behind,” said board member John Neurohr, Jr.
Sierra Club
“It’s extremely disappointing to see the legislature attempt to block Pennsylvania’s entry into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. We thank Gov. Wolf for his steadfast commitment to RGGI, and we will continue to fully support him in defending the program, including the veto of this misguided resolution,” said Clean Energy Program Director for the Pennsylvania Chapter, Tom Schuster. “Our elected leaders need to act on climate change now. The longer they wait to reduce emissions, the more drastic measures we’ll have to take to avoid catastrophic climate disruption.”
Evangelical Environmental Network
“Dirty air has grave consequences for the health of our children and other vulnerable populations, like the elderly,” said Rev. Mitchell Hescox, president and CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network. “That’s why I support Gov. Wolf’s plan to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative that will apply market-based solutions to reduce the health impacts from power plant pollution, helping boost jobs and save precious lives in Pennsylvania.”
Pennsylvania Environmental Council & Environmental Defense Fund
“We commend Gov. Wolf for vetoing Senate Concurrent Regulatory Review Resolution 1 and continuing the commitment toward reduction of harmful carbon dioxide emissions from the electric generation sector. This is an important market-based step that will prepare and position Pennsylvania for a successful energy future. We urge the General Assembly to shift their time and attention toward advancing constructive policies that cut pollution, diversify our energy supply, benefit consumers, and provide new investment and employment opportunities in clean energy business and deployment.”
CASA
Immigrant advocacy organization CASA said in a tweet, “Great news! Gov. Wolf’s veto aligns with Pennsylvanians’ desire to tackle climate change and invest in high-quality clean energy jobs of the future. RGGI will generate hundreds of millions annually and help communities and workers affected by the energy transition.”
Sustainability advocates at Ceres tweeted, “Gov. Wolf stood up for PA’s public health and economic future. His veto means that by joining RGGI, PA can add 27,000 new jobs and boost the economy by nearly $2 billion. It also will reduce asthma attacks and other health problems.”
With power generation being one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, joining RGGI is a commonsense solution that would have an immediate impact on Pennsylvania’s climate and public health.
Governor Wolf has prioritized addressing climate change, one of the most important global challenges of our lifetime. In 2019, the governor set Pennsylvania’s first statewide climate goals, aiming to reduce greenhouse gases by 80 percent by 2050. Participating in RGGI would help toward achieving these goals. WILK CANCELS COMMENT LINE THE DAY AFTER INSURRECTION COMMEMORATION
The day after the January 6th Insurrection commemoration, WILK Morning co-host Jason Barsky announced that there would be no Comment Line on the 7th. The reason was the vile and ugly comments left by the usual WILK neanderthals who usually post their nonsense. Barsky has taken the Comment Line to a new level adding in voice drop ins that would make the late Len Woloson of WARM fame proud. In effect the clever and talented Barsky satirizes the comments and make them palatable to rational thinking folk. But even Barsky was taken aback by the hatred and vitriol spewed forth by the ignorant denizens of darkness. Barsky was kind though (way too kind for my money) by saying the comments made and recorded might be re-thought by the callers. He is giving them way too much credit for their Christianity and intelligence.
But his judgement on that day was sound for NOT giving the unpatriotic morons a forum of hate (and I believe they are a loud minority of otherwise intelligent WILK listeners) as their forum to somehow validate their sad, empty hateful lives. Things returned to normal on January 10th when a guy named Bob called saying that the proposed NEPA to New York City rail service which will garner millions of dollars in construction jobs and making transit easier for people in the future to get to New York without using a car was terrible. Bob apparently didn’t realize Congressman Cartwright was getting us PASSENGER SERVICE when he said “The trains will carry garbage into our area”.
Well he’s not all wrong. If Bob comes out of his hole and rides the train there will be garbage on it. Bob.
