 WRITE ON WEDNESDAY

This week we are going to feature a letter written to the editor by Edmund Zygmunt. He takes issue with the fact that GOP right wingers are attacking President Biden's Energy policy. Even saying he wants to shut it down. Some smart thoughts today on Write On Wednesday

Editor:

I shake my head every time I read a letter in The Times-Tribune from brainwashed Fox New viewers who incorrectly claim that President Joe Biden singlehandedly shut down the U.S. energy industry.

These misinformed arm-chair energy experts should take a short drive to Pennsylvania’s nearby Marcellus Shale region and see all the drilling underway in Susquehanna County and other Northern Tier counties.

I could show them six new gas wells that a giant energy company just completed less than a quarter-mile from my home. These wells produce enormous volumes of natural gas that, ironically, may be used to heat, cool, and power the homes of many Biden critics.. I’d be happy to give them a tour of other drilling sites spread across my county to make their drive worthwhile.

COVID-19 crippled the world economy for more than two years. Demand for oil drastically declined. So did its cost. But I’ll still give Donald Trump credit for low gas prices during that perilous time. Trump brilliantly made the virus crisis worse by mocking mask-wearing, encouraging Americans to inject bleach into their veins and other missteps.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, domestic energy production has been greater than our consumption since 2019, including in 2021 when Joe Biden sat in the White House. Even so, the war in Ukraine, greedy oil companies, aging refineries, OPEC leaders, natural disasters and many other factors have combined to raise the global price of oil to a painful level.

There’s not much any president, Republican or Democrat, can do about it.

So, before another Trump supporter speaks out, I say: There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Ed Zygmunt,

Laceyville
