I am so sick of hearing the gun apologists talk about their RIGHT to carry. The fact is we have a gun culture in this country that is woefully selfish, stupid and plain out cowards. There is an element here that would rather ask questions LATER and kill people sooner. And there is racism and envy involved. Look at the two white losers who were plain and simple pansies if they didn’t have a gun in their hands. One teenager of color was shot because he rang the wrong door bell; the other was a young woman nowhere near a doorbell in a car who was gunned down.

All at the hands of BITTER, OLD, SCARED WHITE MEN. I’m sure that there will be people defending them as older men who should not be in fear of the times they live in in their older age. But MAN UP guys. Killing innocent people because you dumbass peckerheads are SCARED shows just how little men you really are.

My hope is they get prosecuted to the full extent of the law, die in jail and burn in hell.

TRUMP PROSECUTION…MEANWHILE IN GEORGIA….

The Atlanta-area prosecutor investigating efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election indicated Tuesday that she has conducted fresh interviews with some of the Republican activists who falsely claimed to be Georgia’s legitimate presidential electors.

In a court filing Tuesday, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis noted that her office conducted those interviews on April 12 and April 14, suggesting an active and ongoing investigation. Willis disclosed in the filing that more than one of the false electors had described potential violations of Georgia state law by another one.

Look out Donald, bad news from the South.

 

REP. CARTWRIGHT ANNOUNCES $4.9 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA HEALTH CENTERS

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced that Scranton Primary Health Care Center, Inc.; Maternal and Family Health Services Inc.; and The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education/The Wright Center Medical Group will receive a total of $4.96 million in federal grants from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

·         Scranton Primary Health Care Center will receive a Health Care Cluster grant in the amount of $1.86 million to continue providing the needed services in their community, including pediatrics, family & internal medicine, women’s health, gynecology, prenatal & postpartum care, infectious disease care, behavioral health, and general dentistry.

·         Maternal and Family Health Services will receive a Family Planning Services grant in the amount of $1.6 million to continue providing services to women, men, and teens, to ensure they have the critical support and care they need to make informed, educated decisions about their reproductive health.

·         The Wright Center Medical Group/The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education will receive a Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Program grant in the amount of $1.5 million for the planning and development of three residency programs: obstetrics, pediatrics, and pediatric dentistry.

“Community health centers play a vital role in delivering quality and affordable care to underserved populations, acting as essential pillars in our communities,” said Rep. Cartwright, who is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee, where he oversees more than $70 billion in annual federal spending. “Also, having teaching health centers in Northeastern Pennsylvania is an invaluable tool to help fill the void of primary care physicians. Thanks to these grants, my constituents will have greater access to resources in their communities and I will continue to advocate for this federal funding.”

The Health Care Cluster Grant is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a division of HHS. It is the primary federal agency for improving health care for those who are geographically isolated or economically or medically vulnerable, working to improve health outcomes and health equity across the country.

Enacted in 1970 as part of the Public Health Service Act and administered by the Office of Population Affairs (OPA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Title X family planning program is a critical part of America’s public health safety net, serving as a point-of-entry into care for millions and the gold standard for providing high-quality, affordable, and confidential voluntary family planning and related preventive health services, with priority given to low-income clients.

The Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Program (THCPD) is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). It provides planning and development grants to establish new accredited or expanded community-based primary care residency programs.

 

CASEY ANNOUNCES $200 MILLION FOR HIGH-SPEED INTERNET EXPANSION

FUNDING FROM AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN TO EXPAND INTERNET ACCESS FOR 44,000 PENNSYLVANIA HOMES AND BUSINESSES

PA EXPECTED TO RECEIVE AT LEAST A BILLION MORE IN HIGH-SPEED INTERNET FUNDING FROM INFRASTRUCTURE LAW IN COMING YEARS

Senator  Bob Casey (D-PA) joined local, state, and Biden Administration officials to announce $200 million from the Capitol Projects Fund, established under the American Rescue Plan, to expand high-speed internet access for more than 44,000 homes and business throughout Pennsylvania, particularly in rural communities. Pennsylvania is expected to receive at least $1 billion more to expand affordable high-speed internet across the Commonwealth from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“Too often, families, particularly those in our rural communities, are left at a disadvantage when it comes to high-speed internet access. This $200 million award from the American Rescue Plan will help level the playing field,” said Senator Casey. “I will continue working to expand high-speed internet in Pennsylvania to ensure families stay connected and small businesses stay competitive in an increasingly digital world.”

The American Rescue Plan provided $10 billion in funding to the U.S. Department of Treasury, of which Pennsylvania is receiving $279 million, for critical capital projects to provide high-quality modern infrastructure, including reliable, affordable broadband infrastructure. Together with the funding in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, these programs are helping to deploy high-speed internet to those without access, lower costs for those who cannot afford it, and ensure that businesses stay competitive by supporting one of the strongest and fastest economic recoveries in history.

 

GOVERNOR SHAPIRO DIRECTS ADMINISTRATION TO SCHEDULE XYLAZINE AS A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, TAKING ACTION AGAINST DANGEROUS DRUG CONTRIBUTING TO OPIOID OVERDOSES

THE SHAPIRO ADMINISTRATION IS WORKING TO PROTECT PUBLIC SAFETY IN PENNSYLVANIA AND HELP THOSE SUFFERING FROM SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER WHILE PRESERVING XYLAZINE’S IMPORTANT USE IN VETERINARY MEDICINE.

Governor Josh Shapiro announced his Administration is taking action to limit access to xylazine, commonly known as “tranq,” a powerful sedative approved for veterinary use on large animals but one that is increasingly found in Pennsylvania’s illicit drug supply.

Acting Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen has submitted a notice of intent to temporarily add xylazine to the list of schedule III drugs under Pennsylvania’s Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act. Dr. Bogen will also submit a notice of intent to schedule nitazines, a class of synthetic opioids that have never been approved for use in the United States, as a schedule I drug. The notices will be published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The Office of Attorney General will receive a copy of the notices and has 30 days to comment.“Xylazine is a powerful animal sedative that should never be ingested by humans and is compounding our fight against the opioid crisis – and today, my Administration is taking action to keep it out of our communities and protect Pennsylvanians. The steps we are taking today will help ensure this dangerous drug can’t be diverted from legitimate sources to the drug dealers harming our communities, while preserving its important use on animals,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “Xylazine has a real purpose for veterinarians, but is being abused by drug dealers and harming those suffering from substance use disorder. My Administration is committed to helping Pennsylvanians get the treatment they need, and we will work with our partners in law enforcement to get these drugs out of our communities and bring the drug dealers poisoning our communities to justice.” Scheduling a drug requires manufacturers and distributors to not only verify that a practitioner, like a veterinarian, is licensed but that they are also authorized to receive a controlled substance. Additionally, this action allows for more checks in an ordering system, to ensure the proper address for delivery and receipt of a controlled substance, often requiring the practitioner them to sign for the product. Scheduling further requires practitioners to take steps to minimize theft and diversion, including accurate recordkeeping, limiting staff access to the product, and ensuring it’s stored in a secure location. People exposed to xylazine often knowingly or unknowingly use it in combination with other drugs, particularly illicit fentanyl; the medication is used to lengthen the opioid’s euphoric effects.

Xylazine is a growing issue across Pennsylvania. In 2017, xylazine contributed to 90 overdose deaths, but in 2021, it contributed to 575 overdose deaths across 30 counties – an increase of over 600 percent in just 5 years. It’s also becoming increasingly prevalent in Philadelphia – in 2021, the City of Philadelphia reported that 90 percent of street opioid samples contained xylazine.

“Across the country and here in Pennsylvania we are seeing an alarming increase in the number of overdose deaths in which xylazine was a contributing factor,” said Dr. Bogen. “Our focus remains on harm reduction strategies and helping people get treatment for substance use disorders. At the same time, we need to take action to protect people from xylazine that is increasingly found in the drug supply.”

Last year, the FDA warned that xylazine is not safe for use in humans. Xylazine use may also result in skin ulcers with wounds that excrete puss, have decaying tissue and bacterial infections, which can lead to amputation. 

While opioid-reversing medications such as naloxone will not reverse the effects of xylazine itself, it can still be effective in reversing the effects of the particular opioid involved and should still be administered if symptoms consistent with possible opioid overdose are present. If xylazine was involved, the person may still appear sedated after their breathing has returned.

While I wasn't there on the first day, I began work there the following month.   I was there as a newsman, a automation operator, an all night classical deejay as well as an afternoon co host of a show with the station manager Roy Hoinowski.
