The LuLac Edition #5, 106, May 6th, 2024

18

It is eighteen years ago today that we launched The LuLac Political Letter. In that time period, we have seen many changes in the country. Even though there were huge differences in policy and stated positions of left and right, people seemed to listen to one another and showed respect for institutions.

Sad to say that instead of evolving, we have devolved into a world of bitterness, embracement of ignorance, and celebration of mediocrity and danger which is disguised as “strength”.

We went from politicians who resigned in shame at the very first hint of scandal to ones who wear that shame like a badge of honor. During the life of this site we have lived through 35 elections, both primary and generals. Statewide and locally, we’ve seen parties win and lose and then come together to govern. In some instances, some officials better than others. We’ve seen some celebrated and other sent to jail. In one county we changed the entire way we did government. In all of these decisions, the voter was the king and queen on election day. No matter what I wrote, what I said on TV or what others did, the voter was the decider.

It's wise to keep that in mind as we approach the 36th election. This year the voters have a stark choice between two candidates that people aren’t crazy about. One decent but never given enough credit. The other a man child who has been wanting to tear down America instead of build it up. One who recognizes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a threat to democracy worldwide, the other who couldn’t tell you the history of WWII aggression if his life depended upon it.

The argument can be made that this year’s election is truly “the lesser of two Evils”. But in reality, that’s not true. The incumbent President has been hit with more issues than any President in modern history since FDR. He has handled them to the best of his ability. He has not been successful in every attempt but done his best. His vision is bigger than the price of butter and potato chips.

The former President is telling you that he will use grievances of the past to build his version of a country. All you need do is read what he told a Time Magazine reporter. None of it is about expanding America but decreasing it to fit his narrow view.

Is this election perfect? None ever were. But we have a President who took office in a time of turmoil and faced the music. The other is one who for eight years has sung the same old tired song of selfishness and grievance.

You the reader., the voter has to decide if you want an America with a vision for decency and respect for all, or suppression and buffoonery for the few who will benefit.

After 18 years, you would think “we’ve seen it all” in LuLac. Not at all, the story of division continues and only you will decide where we’re at in one year.

Choose wisely. Remember you don’t have to marry either of them. You just have to think about who is going to cause you the least amount of drama and meanness.

Decency  over deceit.

The presidential election is between dementia and tertiary syphilis, making this the most important vice presidential election in our history.
