TRUMP’S BIRTHRIGHT SILLINESS
There are many MAGAs out there that say “We follow the Constitution and what the forefathers wanted. Well the framers left a few gaping holes that are left to explanation. Right now Trump wants to end birthright citizenship.

Citizenship was a central question left open by the original Constitution. At the time it was written, the Constitution assumed citizenship, but it didn’t provide any rules for it.

We all learned about the Dred Scott decision. In it, Roger Taney, the Chief Justice said African Americans can’t be citizens of the US and ‘had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.’”

The US Supreme Court’s ruling in the Dred Scott case, named for a slave who unsuccessfully sued for his freedom, has since been widely condemned.

Here's where the 14th amendment comes in. It was designed to overturn this decision and define citizenship once and for all.  It was based on birthright. When you really think about it, it is citizenship based on land not blood. It is an idea that anyone can be an American if they commit themselves to our values and rules mapped out in the Constitution.

But there’s a clause in their subject to the jurisdiction.

However, there are two  examples of people not subject to the jurisdictions of the United States: diplomats and their children, and – at the time of the 14th Amendment – Native Americans, who were not recognized as part of the American populace.

Everyone else who was physically present in the United States was thought to be under its jurisdiction.  The Supreme Court has reaffirmed that understanding. Plus there are plenty of congressional statutes that assume birthright citizenship.

In a The Supreme Court decision of 1898 it was noted that citizenship was not inherited and it wasn’t generation. It all depended on where you were born. It’s been called the power of place. Where you were born.

From both a legal and cultural perspective, this was assumed. But we all know what assumed means.

So because the  Supreme Court has not ruled 100%

on the issue of children of undocumented immigrants, you will see Trump taking this legally to that so called apolitical body. Even though Congress has passed all kinds of laws presuming their citizenship, this hateful man and his cult will try to overturn 150 years of law and history.

I need to point out that most MAGA voters and other selfish Americans who were more concerned about egg prices did not vote for continuous legal battles over where an Amendment that was the law of the land a century and a half ago. But this is what you get when you fall for a bitter man  hellbent on screwing children who were born on U.S. soil.

A federal  judge has temporarily blocked implementation of the order.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR JOSH SHAPIRO ON THE INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP

In response to the inauguration of President Donald Trump, Governor Josh Shapiro released the following statement:

“For the 47th time in our nation’s history, we have inaugurated a new president, completing the peaceful transfer of power and proving that our democracy continues to endure. As Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania — the birthplace of that democracy — I want to congratulate President Trump on his inauguration. President Trump, after being duly elected by the American people, now holds the sacred duty of leading this nation forward for the next four years.

“As Governor, I have a responsibility to serve the people of Pennsylvania — and I go to work every single day focused on making life better and delivering results for them. Over the last two years, I’ve worked across the aisle — bringing Democrats and Republicans together — to solve problems, cut taxes and reduce costs, create real opportunity in our classrooms, invest in public safety, create jobs, and grow our economy. I remain committed to those commonsense Pennsylvania priorities, and where our priorities are aligned, I stand ready to work with the Trump Administration to continue our progress here in Pennsylvania.

“At the same time, as I have done throughout my career, I will always defend our fundamental freedoms and stand up to efforts to erode them. I will continue our work to build a Commonwealth where all Pennsylvanians have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed.

“I believe there’s more that unites us as Americans than divides us — and as the Trump Administration begins its work, we must focus on the commonsense issues that bring people together to move our Commonwealth and our country forward."

BRESNAHAN ANNOUNCES PROBLEM SOLVERS CAUCUS MEMBERSHIP

U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan Jr.  announced that he has joined the Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan group of Members of Congress committed to advancing commonsense solutions to key issues facing the nation. The Caucus is chaired by Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Tom Suozzi (NY-03).

“As a Member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, I look forward to advocating for meaningful legislation to improve the lives of all Northeastern Pennsylvanians, both Republican and Democrat alike,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “I firmly believe it is when we work together as a team that we can find success. The Problem Solvers Caucus allows Members from both sides of the aisle the chance to come to the same table to discuss how we can make America a better and safer place to call home.”

"I am thrilled to welcome my fellow Pennsylvanian, Rep. Rob Bresnahan, to the Problem Solvers Caucus and look forward to working alongside him and our entire caucus,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick, Co-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus. “Together, our mission in the 119th Congress is to lead with pragmatism, advance meaningful two-party solutions, and demonstrate that genuine collaboration is the cornerstone of preserving our democracy and the future success of our great nation. This is the leadership the American people deserve, and I have every confidence we will continue to rise to the challenge and deliver real results.

“The American people are hungering for their elected officials to work together to solve the problems of immigration and the border, inflation and cost of living, and so much more,” said Rep. Suozzi, the newly elected Democratic Co-Chair of the bipartisan group. “The Problem Solvers Caucus is doing exactly what the people are demanding.”

January 1965

I was in my bedroom studying on a Sunday afternoon. Winter in Pittston. dark and dreary. I did have the radio on and heard Terry McNulty from WARM announce the death of Winston Churchill.  Churchill suffered his final stroke on 10 January 1965 and died on 24 January. Like the Duke of Wellington in 1852 and William Gladstone in 1898, Churchill was given a state funeral. His coffin lay in state at Westminster Hall for three days. The funeral ceremony was at St Paul's Cathedral on 30 January. Afterwards, the coffin was taken by boat along the River Thames to Waterloo Station and from there by a special train to the family plot at St Martin's Church, Bladon.
Worldwide, numerous memorials have been dedicated to Churchill. His statue in Parliament Square was unveiled by his widow Clementine in 1973 and is one of only twelve in the square. Elsewhere in London, the Cabinet War Rooms have been renamed the Churchill War Rooms.Churchill College, Cambridge, was established as a national memorial to Churchill. In a 2002 BBC poll which attracted 447,423 votes, he was voted the greatest-ever Briton, his nearest rival being Isambard Kingdom Brunel some 56,000 votes behind.
Churchill was the first of only eight people to be granted honorary citizenship of the United States. The United States Navy honoured him in 1999 by naming a Arleigh Burke-class destroyer as the USS Winston S. Churchill. Other memorials in North America include the National Churchill Museum in Fulton, where he made the 1946 "Iron Curtain" speech; Churchill Square in Edmonton, Alberta; and the Winston Churchill Range, a mountain range northwest of Lake Louise, also in Alberta, which was renamed after Churchill in 1956.

Here is a video of that time.

Plus, the number one song in LuLac land and America was “Downtown”  by Petula Clark.
