The LuLac Edition #154, Feb. 14, 2007

QUICK HITS:

Valentine's Day: Hope you lovers out there got the ones you cared about something to either impress them or know that you remembered them today. I bought Mrs. LuLac some roses on Tuesday before the snow came. Today we spent 5 hours digging out one of our vehicles. Snow sucks. Hope you had a nice day with the one you love. The color of her roses were pink, it's the color of appreciation.

JOE McDADE:

The news out of Florida about Joe McDade is quite distressing. As you know Mr. McDade is charged with exposing himself in Florida. Before we rush to judgement on this, a few things:
1. The man is suffering from Parkinson's disease. To give him the benefit of the doubt, this might've been a contributing factor.
2. He is 76 years old and elderly people with diminished capacity, physical or otherwise, do some strange things.

MAYOR TOM AND

THE SNOW

This is Mayor Tom Leighton's first real test since 2003 on major snow removal in the city. He did declare a state of emergency and there were plows out. However, the way his administration responds to this storm, especially the neighborhoods will either give his opponents more ammunition against him in this Mayor's race or shut them up on this issue. Those of us with aching backs, wet boots and well worn snow shovels are watching this carefully.

UPCOMING: A look at some of the council candidate's entering the fray in Wilkes Barre City as well as a few unedited missives from Mr. Tim Grier.

Re: Joe McDade.

This will all come out in due time, but let me say this as someone who has had a neurological disorder for the last 56 years and been on some very strong meds for the last 23 years.

Brain disorders, as well as the meds you take to control them, can do some strange things to your thinking process. Often, you are not even aware of what you are doing. You "come to" and suddenly realize what has happened. Then you look for a hole in the earth to fall into.

Meanwhile, young and healthy news anchors are expressing indignation at how the mighty have fallen. We are saying, "What you are, I was; what I am, you will be. Don't be too quick, kid, because being able-bodied is a temporary condition in life."

Father T,
You and Yonki seem like the only two who are not hellbent on sensationalizing this story. There has to be more to the action than meets the eye. The story in the TL even confirmed that the accuser (who's name we don't know) even said she thought he was a mental patient. And as far as your comment on the hot shot blow dries giving the news without proper pronunciation, your comment was right on. Medications? They do very strange things. Again, I point to the story in the TL, McDade was even a guest at the hotel. Where was his family? It sounds likew he just wandered off. Let's hope that this action will not be what Joe McDade will be remembered for. He was a great Congressman who got things done with no regard to party affiliation.

McDade got me out of Vietnam. I was the sole son of an elderly mother ion a single parent household. When it was brought to his attention, he said, "That boy doesn't belong there". In 3 days I was home with an honorable discharge. I don't care if he whacks off in front of the college of cardinals, he was and is a good man.
