PHOTO INDEX: WILKES BARRE MAYORAL CANDIDATE LINDA STETS AND YANKEE CATCHER THE LATE THURMAN MUNSON.

STETS SET

Linda Stets wants to make history. She'd like to be the first female Mayor in the history of Wilkes Barre. Stets has set a few fundraisers and is gearing up in a run against incumbent Tom Leighton. Stets has been talking about the safety of the neighborhoods as welll as the closing of firehouses. Another is safety of children. Here's her latest missive about the child predator law.
Mayoral candidate urges citizens to report suspicious activities
Since there are no absolute personality factors in determining what type of person, in any career field, constitutes who could be, or is, a sexual predator, parents, families, neighbors, witnesses and associates who suspect such crimes do in fact have a duty to immediately report such suspicions.
Should an authority – which includes any policing or employment agency – not act on your report of a bona fide crime, they are abetting. The “Failure to Act” is a law, and can lead to an accessory classification crime. Every American citizen is expected to know U.S. laws. Don’t be hesitant in invoking this American right. There is no excuse in a court of law, under American law, to knowingly allow criminal behavior to continue when you darn well know it’s happening.

It behooves us to report suspected criminal activity to reduce crime. Every policing agency is required to act by law and especially when it involves suspected sexual predators or the sexual abuse of children.
My thoughts are that since many local municipal councils – such as Wilkes-Barre and Kingston – don’t feel comfortable in enacting sexual predator laws for fear of legal ramifications, then the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania should take immediate steps to design and enact sexual predator laws.
As a candidate for Wilkes-Barre mayor in the coming November election, I plan to assist council in enacting a sexual predator ordinance to protect all children from such dreadful crimes in our city, if Luzerne County or the commonwealth fails to finally address the need.

THURMAN MUNSON

It's hard to believe that 28 years have passed since the death of Yankee catcher Thurman Munson. KIlled in a plane crash on this day, it was actually 28 years to the day, Munson is still revered at
Yankee Stadium. Once while I was at Yankee Stadium in early 1981, I saw Lou Pienella stop what he was doing on the field to gaze at a pre-game image of "The Captain". There was raw emotion in his look. On a personal note, Mrs. LuLac and I met because I meandered into the Osterhout looking for a book on Munson. Having barely frequented such a place, even in my college days, this meeting was a true miracle. And speaking of miracles, who can ever forget the game Bobby Murcer had the day Munson was buried against Baltimore. Murcer at the tail end of his career batted in all 5 runs. Munson would've been a Hall of Famer had he lived but Yankee fans consider him an icon nonetheless. Here's a tribute from YOU TUBE:
