D DAY, AGAIN!!!
On the eve of primaries in Indiana and North Carolina, Democratic rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama agree on one thing: Tomorrow's results won't settle anything. The two say they expect the fight over the Democratic nomination to extend into June, regardless of the outcome in Tuesday's contests.
OBAMA TAKES GUAM
The last time people were interested in the primary results for either major party from Guam was, uh never. Senator Obama beat Senator Clinton by a mere 7 caucus votes but the big new is they split the delegates. A little history about Guam: Guam , officially the Territory of Guam, is an island in the Western Pacific and is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States. It is one of five U.S. territories with established civilian government.The island's capital is Hagåtña (formerly Agana). Guam is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands.
The Chamorros, Guam's indigenous inhabitants, first populated the island approximately 6,000 years ago. The island has a long history of European colonialism beginning in 1668 with the arrival of Spanish settlers including Padre San Vitores, a Spanish missionary. The island was captured from Spain by the United States during the Spanish American War in 1898. As the largest island in Micronesia and the only American-held island in the region before World War II. Guam was occupied by the Japanese between December 1941 and July 1944. Today, Guam's economy is mainly supported by tourism (primarily from Japan) and U.S. military bases. I would have enjoyed being the coordinator for either candidate. You can’t beat the islands no matter how long it takes you to get there.

The Pennsylvania Senate is expected to vote Wednesday on a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.
The Appropriations Committee voted 18-8 today to move the bill to the Senate for a vote. The bill seeks to add to the state Constitution these words: "No union other than a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as marriage or the functional equivalent of marriage by the commonwealth."
Pennsylvania already has a law barring gay marriage, but some lawmakers say it needs to be strengthened with a constitutional amendment.
Senator Ray Musto voted with the majority, yes and Senator Mellow as an ex officio member voted no. I thought the Appropriates Committee focused in on high paying jobs to distressed areas like ours instead of adding a Constitutional amendment to what is already a law on the books.

So you say we’re not a distressed economic area? The LuLac Political letter has learned The Disney Stores located in both Scranton and Wilkes Barre plan to close their doors. The reason: the economic indicators of the corporation say WB/Scranton is distressed economically and they aren’t getting enough profit. A store will remain in robust Allentown. Been to the store a few times and found it packed. But the merchandise was marketed for young children and families which is all well and good. But with a population that is one of the oldest in America, you’d think they might have tweaked the marketing a tad. What the heck, come and see our potholes. Now that's something thriving here.

The State Senate is a joke. I don't care what people do with their lives. I do care about problems that go unsolved by a State Senate while they debate on legislation that is not needed. Do they really think this bill is going to stop two gay lovers, hell any type of lovers from doing what they want? And Musto, when's the last time that guy had public hearings on any issue in the area. And no, we don't count your annual breakfast where 1000 of your sheep show up every fall as a public event! Let's do the work of the people instead of trying to tell people how to live. Vince Fumo got it right.
Another D Day. This is getting to be like the movie Groundhog day. Make or break, do or die, this is it, D Day. For only the 17th time this primary season........and I'm loving it.
Economically depressed, my foot. Ever count the number of Hummers, Lexus, Mercedes and Cadillacs filling up at the local gouge pumps? And there are new housing developments all over the area. The money is here, but I suspect it's being spent elsewhere - New York, Philadelphia, Allentown. All those restaurants and the Shoppes at Montage seem to be doing okay, so I'd tell Disney to take a look at their marketing strategy. Closing stores may be a healthy thing for them. Maybe they could start having their products manufactured a little closer to home and not forget that many adults enjoy Disney characters and collectibles. At any rate, I won't miss the crammed to the rafters store at WVM. It was always a chore to weave my way through all the merchandise to try to find what I wanted. If I get a craving for a Disney fix, I'll hit the internet.
Perhaps the high prices contributed to the Disney flop in NEPA. I can barely afford gas to run the lawnmower this year let alone buy Disney products for the grand kids.
Personally I now have one car that stays in the garage most of the time, two gas derricks drilling in the backyard, a family of illegal immigrants living in the old coal bin in the basement and a boarder in the guest bedroom.
So far I'm about breaking even...
Same sex marriages? I'm for it, gays and lesbians should be as miserable as the rest of us straights.
Musto and Mellow are two guys who have stayed too long at the fair. Mellow, 38 years, Musto over 25. And almost always no primary opposition. And we wonder why things change here at a snail's pace. In 2006 both of these Legislators (and I use that term loosely) voted for the payraise yet no one came forward to challenge them. Sad.
