CONVENTION

CONFIDENTIAL

KENNEDY UNIVERSE

The Kennedy Universe started in the Democratic party as far back as the 1932 election when Joseph P. Kennedy contributed heavily to the campaign of Franklin Roosevelt. Democrats have always felt a kinship with the Kennedy clan especially the state of Pennsylvania and in particular Northeastern Pennsylvania. Last night's speech by Senator Ted Kennedy was an astounding feat of gumption, courage and commitment that has been a hallmark of the Kennedy era. I caught up with former Scranton Mayor Jim McNulty who gave me this first hand account. "The speech was remarkable and energized the entire convention, both Obama and Clinton forces alike, " said Mr. McNulty. McNulty's history with the Kennedy dynasty goes back to his support of JFK in 1960. He worked as a page at the 1964 convention in Atlantic City where Robert Kennedy paid tribute to his slain bother. "I was behind the stage in Atlantic City crying when he gave that speech" McNulty told me. "I felt bad that we lost something in John but had hope that perhaps Robert would take on that torch". We all know that was not meant to be. McNulty was at the 1980 convention working for Ted Kennedy and served as the campaign coordinator for the Northeast in that race. "After Kennedy's speech last night, I went over to the Governor who was one of the Kennedy operatives in New York (Governor Rendell was Philadelphia DA at the time) and he began reciting back to me, and I to him the phrases of "The Dream Will Never Die" speech Teddy gave in New York", remarked McNulty. He continued, "Then I made my way over to former U.S. Senator and Peace Corps staffer Harris Wofford and we talked about how Kennedy is still advocating for a good health plan for the citizens of this country. Wofford of course made health care a cause in his time in the Senate and we both thought this speech was a type of full circle on this issue". McNulty recounted how when he won election to Mayor in 1981 he got a call from Teddy Kennedy but most impressively how when he lost, he also heard from the Democratic legend. "The last time I ran into Teddy was before this illness was disclosed and his parting words to me were "Stay strong, stay strong, stay strong"." We can only add this: "BACK AT YOU TEDDY KENNEDY, BACK AT YOU".

DEM VIDEO VIGNETTE

If the Obama campaign think they have problems with a former President with the concerns Bill Clinton is giving them, that is nothing compared to what Harry Truman did to the Kennedy people in 1960. A week before the convention, Truman resigned as a delegate stating that "conventions were rigged". Here is that amazing video from YOU TUBE:

Harris Wofford a fine and decent man who we turned out in favor of Rick Santorum! Whatever his views, Wofford had character. Santorum didnt even know what character was!
We do make some really stupid choices dont we? Now the Hillaryites are again making a dumb ass decision in supporting McCain who is about as far from Ms Clinton as you can get. If they get their way we may never see 2012!!!

Memo to the Clintons and their supporters, YOU LOST Get over it!
Heard Sue Henry today say something about the Kennedys and their Harvard tradition. One paving the way for the next. Its true but she failed to mention Yale
and the Prescott Bush Bldg. Does anyone really think Geo W legitimately graduated from Yale?
I dont believe they could have lowered the standards enough for that to happen on the up and up. The only thing he may have excelled at was "cheerleading", a manly sport indeed!

True, McCain is not Clinton. And I may not agree with all of his policies. But at least I know what those policies are. As opposed to "Let's change for hope and hope for change".
I'm sick and tired of hearing what politicos have done for women.
When they put forth a woman candidate, then and only then will I believe them.

Caught a moment of the dance segment of tonights convention. Are these idiots at all aware that there is a war going on? The Republicans will be just as bad.
This seems to me not to be the time for celebration and silliness in the USA!

I would just like to implore everyone to vote their concious this election. The race between Hillary and Obama is over, the race is between Obama and McCain now. To say that only a woman candidate would care for issues that a woman cares about or only a black candidate can for issues of a black person is a bit simplistic.

I do understand the disapiontment of not having the candidate that you wanted to win the nominee not winning. But I'm used to it. Being a voter in PA I'm used to not having my vote count in the primary season. This year was an annomaly. Usualy by March a nomination process is over.

But for people that state that this election does not matter because my candidate did not win in the primary, you only have a lifetime of disapointment ahead of you. To the suporters of Senator Clinton who are enraged that she did not get the V.P. nod and won't vote for Barak because she is not on the ticket, keep in mind that the V.P. nod is not something to relish in. Since Martin Van Buren there has only been one sitting vice president after serving a two term president that won the election in his own right and that was George Herbert Walker Bush. The V.P. Slot is good for getting your parties nomination but not for becoming president unless the president dies in office. That's the only way that veeps have aspired to the office for well over a century.

The past two election should teach us all well we have a choice. I am a partisan when it comes to national elections and I do admit that I think unlike his father this current president is incompotent. I do not think a McCain presidency would be incompotent like this past one, but I do think it can be as harmful as this past one. The current Republican party does not have a conservative view of military power, they have the neo con view that we do whatever we want wherever we want militarily in the world, and we will form the world in our image.

For me the vital question in this election is not even being asked by either candidate, will we have an increasing power to the presidency without question. And will congress continue to absolve itself of power and turn it over to the president while complaining all along how powerful this office has become. Our founders must be spinning in their graves.

I respect Senator McCain, but I will not vote for him this election. Barak or Hillary were not my first to choices for the nomination, but I will vote for Barak, just like I would have voted for Hillary if she got the nod.

I think the question voters have to ask themselves this question, is Barak compotent enough to handle the office, and will McCain continue to follow this neo con approach that has so far proved not to go so well for us.

P.S. Dave I hope you continue to do well in your recovery
