The LuLac Edition #575, Sept. 17th, 2008

PHOTO INDEX: SENATOR BARACK OBAMA AND HAZLETON MAYOR LOU BARLETTA.

CLOSING IN

Challenger Lou Barletta seems to be closing in on long time Congressman Kanjorski. In the latest poll, he's in the 40s and Kanjorski is stuck at 35% with 17% undecided. It seems the Kanjorski campaign is all over the place. To get those undecideds, they need to do the following:
1. Admit Cornerstone was a mistake and tout the big bucks Kanjorski brought in over the years.
2. Ease up on the negative attacks on Lou. Lou is not Bush. Nobody is Bush Thank God! Put an ad on saying Barletta will be a lone GOP Congressman, with no strong ties to either a Dem or GOP White House and will be one guy in a sea of Democrats.
3. Use a color. How much money came in over the years.
Ahh, they never listen anyway.

JUMPING SHIP

Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN. The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.

WOMEN FOR OBAMA

Evie Refalko McNulty invites you to a meeting being held to show what the “Women for Obama-Biden” can do here in Lackawanna County and NEPA. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 18th at the Radisson Hotel in Scranton at 7 pm in the ballroom. The meeting will be conducted by the Pennsylvania Women's Vote Director for the Women for Obama-Biden. There will be a brief video presentation and a detailed breakdown of what we can expect from the campaign and more importantly what will be expected of us . F.Y.I. what is already happening over the next 50+ days. On October 1st the Lackawanna County Federation of Democratic Women will be hosting “The View Obama /Biden Style” at the Radisson Hotel. It will start with cocktails at 6 followed by a buffet dinner and a panel discussion with a national surrogate from the campaign joining us. I will forward more info on that event as soon as Naomi Harris, the President of the LCFDW, gets the name of our special guest.
There will be a Women for Obama-Biden Rally to be held with another national guest speaker on a date to be announced (in case you are wondering men will certainly be allowed)
Now is the time to get on board and show what we are really made of here in NEPA, especially Lackawanna County. HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION. Please come to the meeting on the 18th and feel free to bring your daughter, mother, aunt or neighbor. All ages welcome. The more the merrier. It’s about their future as well as ours. If you have any questions please call Evie at 335-2763.

ABORTION AN ISSUE?

Apparently not so much. An MSNBC poll shows that 58% of those polled would not vote for a candidate based on their views of abortion.

Kanjo is in trouble and he deserves to be. Ignoring problems never makes them go away. The guy is on the way out.
Heard Hackett on the radio and if you take the word "liberal" out of his vocabulary the man has nothing to say.
Sue Henry's show has all the excitement of paint drying and Corbett is now simply making an ass of himself day in and day out.
Add Rush to the mix along with Savage and O'Really and you have an unlistenable frequency on the dial.

t is Paul's turn to go among others. This election is not about Republicans or Democrats. It's about the failed policies in Washington.

The Democrats have control of Congress for the last two years. Name one piece of meaningful legislation passed in that time. To me that is the reason Congress's approval rating is lower than that of George Bush. Yet they try to paint George as the culprit but the polls show the public thinks different.

The lobbyists have polluted Washington. They are drunk on their money. National Association of Realtors gives Paul $234,000.00 to use against Lou Barletta. That is an obscene amount of money, espeically when it specifically goes to re-election efforts, not fixing America.

And don't get me wrong. There is a long list of Republicans that deserve to go as well. Term limits, term limits, term limits. In all of the colleges and universities in America I have yet to see a major in Congress or the Senate. Let them stay in office for 10-12 years if they can get re-elected. Then make them take time off to go back to their district and decontaminate.

Remind them what it is like to have to pay for their own car, their own gas, their own healthcare, their own mortagage. Remind them how few jobs pay $170,000.00 per year.

After a couple years back in the district it could be possible to run again. Under that system the lobbyists' effect would be blunted.

Taking $234,000.00 from one organization is nothing short of allowing oneself to deny and forget all the principles that one is taught growing up. It may be the system today but it is not one that should be sustained. One should have the principles to resist the temptation. That is the real reason Paul is on his way out.

If you honestly believe that Paul is the reason that money comes to this area then you are ignoring the fact he is fourth from the bottom among Democrats representing Pennsylvania for bringing home the bacon. http://www.taxpayer.net/user_uploads/file/Database%20Docs/membernumbers.xls

I saw this comment on absnews.go.com regarding Biden's interview about change.

Regardless of the political party their desire for lifetime positions of power creates an inherent conflict of interest between serving the people and serving themselves.

I find it odd that when Obama had the opportunity he chose Biden who has been a Senator since 1972- 36 years while Hillary has only been a Senator since 2000. Yet he holds the banner for change. John McCain chose Sarah Palin, a complete Washington outsider, and they try to say that McCain doesn't represent change.

I am personally not happy with either as President so don't get me wrong. But I am not fooled either by the rhetoric spewed in the name of changing America.

If you want real change don't vote for one incumbent. That will definitely get noticed in Washington. It will be the new version of the Boston Tea Party.

Something should be done re term limits. Robert Byrd, currently serving, is a fossil. Remember Strom Thurmund who was supposed to be voting on laws at 100 yrs of age? By the way who in the Senate today is not a millionaire? How many became millionaires after arriving in Washington?
Republican or Democrat they are prettty much all the same if you ask me.
In the end both Dan Flood and Joe McDade's legacies were tainted.
The tragedy on the Don Sherwood thing for the GOP and Wyoming County was that he could have had a lock on that district for years. There would have been a statue in the heart of T-Town right next to the Dietrich Theatre! They could have renamed the place Sherwood Forest. Alas, it like so many other things was not to be...
