HOW DARE THEY?
The Gruesome Twosome of Scranton City Council did what the do best: ganging up on a taxpayer who had the temerity to question the recent hiring of Zach Connors, son of former Mayor Jimmy Connors. Council members Sherry Nealon Fanucci and Judy Gatelli both took offense when taxpayer Dan Hubbard accused them and the rest of council of idly allowing Mayor Chris Doherty to offer the position to a “political friend.” Hubbard added the council members all must “benefit” from their tacit support of the mayor’s political moves. He asked Fanucci and Gatelli how they and their family members attained their jobs in a way that drew their ire. Gatelli admonished Hubbard exclaiming “how dare you!” How dare he? Well Judy baby, let us count the ways. You are an elected official, he has the right to ask you a question, no matter how intrusive you think it is. Hubbard also has the right as a U.S. citizen to express an opinion. The question was relevant to the Connors issue. Look, I had an uncle that placed a ton of relatives on the public payroll. All the relatives who did or did not get those jobs were fair game. Not a week goews by when I'm asked "how come your uncle didn't get you in this place or that place?" Hey, I thought making $95.00 bucks a week in broadcasting was heaven. Dumb, dumb, dumb. But I digress. Gatelli and Fanucci need to bone up on a copy of what we here in America call The Constitution. "How dare he?" He has a right to ask the question and be heard. Ladies, take the heat or just sit down and shut up already.
CHANGES
Wilkes Barre City Council changed leadership. Vice Chair Tony Thomas becomes Chair of the Council and Council Chair, Kathy Kane takes the number 2 spot. The two bring leadership and experience to their positions. Let's just hope they open up the discussions at the Council meetings a bit more. We wish them luck in their new positions.
ROLAND BURRIS
Hey that Roland Burris has a set on him, doesn't he? The guy flew coach to D.C. to claim a Senate seat from Illinois and was initially rebuffed. But he charmed them, made his case and it looks like the guys who were not embracing him, the new President Elect included now think this guy might be the next Senator from the land of Lincoln. Good for him, he didn't back down from the big bad Senate club reserved for millionaires and people of wealth.

Yonk: I saw you on WYOU last night. Kudos to you and Eric for trying to get Eddie Day Pashnski to give a straight answer about what the local legislators will do for us resiudents in WYOU and LuLac land. You guys tried but that guy is good. I don't even think he took a breath. Keep up the good work though.
I think what they need up there in Scranton is a Chief Nepotism Officer A Nepotism Czar, if you will, to crack down on all the nepotism.
Surely someone on council has a brother, nephew, aunt or uncle who'd be just perfect for the job!
Scranton City Council has been a joke and a soap opera for a long time. They seem totally powerless
and yet completely unaware that that is the case. Why bother allowing citizens to express opinions and ask questions when they never get answers. With the possible exception of McGoff, who looks bewildered most of the time,
Council members have their own agenda and no other priorties. They influence nothing particularly the mayor. Perhaps someone could point out Councils accomplishments. I for one dont know what good, if any, is done. Some High School Student Councils are more effective. Might be a good place to save money and get five useless people off the city payroll!
Hey Dave, WB City Council needs to improve the way it treats its citizens appearing before Council too. It might behoove them to listen to some suggestions from some of the people appearing before them. After all, an idea is an idea, it is not a Democratic or Republican idea! Hope Tony Thomas is a little more patient than some of the previous chairs.
Ya gotta like Roland Burris. He wasn't going to bow to THE MAN. He took his appointment and ran with it. Harry Reid wasn't gonna put him in the back of the Senatorial bus. MLK would be proud. Look for this guy to be a real player in the Senate. Good to see a guy who flies coach make it big. And kudos to Dianne Feinstein for breaking the male impasse and saying what was right.

"Judy, Judy, Judy..."
When it comes to qualifications and execution of duties, Judy has clearly demonstrated what can happen.
