HAMMER DOWN
President Judge of Luzerne County Chester Muroski put the hammer down hard today on Court Administrator Willie Sharkey today. Muroski issued an order terminating the medical leave of the court official. The order also directs that the treasurer's office not pay any bills submitted by Sharkey. Sharkey has been on medical leave since August 21st, which happens to be the day the day after the FBI issued a search warrant at several court offices, including court administration, as part of an investigation into the possible theft of county funds. To be continued.
ANOTHER TAX BREAK
Former Sen. Tom Daschle's failure to pay his taxes on time isn't expected to derail his confirmation as health secretary for the Obama administration, Republicans and Democrats say. Daschle, the South Dakota Democrat chosen to lead President Obama's health reform efforts, recently filed amended tax returns to report $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest, according to a Senate document obtained by The Associated Press.
Daschle's spokeswoman said Saturday that Daschle told senators about the tax problems when he met individually with his former colleagues, who asked him to let the committee disclose the tax returns. Now I think the former Senate leader is the right guy for this job but this does not look good. This is the second exception Obama is asking on this ethics and tax deal. I come back to the question, if a regular citizen had this issue, would they get the same "tax break" as Daschle? I think not.
KANJO ON THE CASE
Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (D-PA), the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises, today announced that the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises will convene a hearing on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, to assess the alleged $50 billion investment fraud engineered by Mr. Bernard L. Madoff. This is the second in a series of hearings that will help to guide the work of the Financial Services Committee and the Capital Markets Subcommittee in the 111th Congress in undertaking the most substantial rewrite of the laws governing the U.S. financial markets since the Great Depression. The hearing starts Wednesday at 9:30AM.

So much has been written and said
about the courthouse corruption in
Luzerne County. Yet I dont believe the magnitude of the crime has completely settled in with folks!
I believe every case that in any way involved these judges, juvenile and other, must be reviewed. Every One! These guys were not satisfied in betraying the youth and parents of the area. I'm sure they screwed every individual they came in contact with and justice was always for sale. This investigation could be endless and the resulting cases will bog down an already overwhelmed system. The County needs to go after everything these lowlifes and their coconspirators own and that includes condos and boats in Florida. Its really hard to imagine how far reaching this thing could be, but it must go all the way. No deals!

I was home sick from school on this date in 1959 and I turned on WARM . I probably slept late so it could have been late morning or early afternoon when (I am almost sure) George Gilbert announced the plane crash in an Iowa cornfield killing Richie Valens, the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly. I never believed that it was the day the music died, but I rememeber the day. The others were talented, but Holly was a genius just beginning to unfold. Too bad what we all missed out on a half century ago.
Hey, GG tell Buddy "Hello" for me if ya see him.
