PHOTO INDEX: MORELLI AND TOOLE COUNTY COUNCIL SIGNS, MOON LAKE PARK AND WILL TOOLE, CANDIDATE FOR COUNTY COUNCIL.

OBAMA’S SPEECH

So all the right wing talk radio people are going crazy today over President Obama’s speech yesterday on government programs. Most are saying that the President has a jaded view of what makes America great. They say it is polarizing the country and dividing it upon class lines. My criticism of the speech is that it is too little too late. Obama should have done this right out of the gate instead of trying to be so conciliatory and inclusive to a minority party that was only hellbent on destroying his agenda and Presidency. Mr. President, you use the hammer when you have a majority…not after you lose it.

CURVEBALL

WB threw a curve with this last minute decision to not allow signs on public property. I think it is a good idea but I don't think you change the rules in the middle of the game. Candidates used the WB area in planning the cost of signs and put a lot of effort putting them out. Now they only had a few days to remove them. Wrong way to handle it. In for a penny, in for a pound. Do not change the rules in the middle of the game.

CASEY’S NOD

EqualityPA, the only statewide organization aimed at securing equal rights for LGBT Pennsylvanians has endorsed Casey Evans in the race for Luzerne County Council, joining 20 endorsed candidates from all across Pennsylvania . The Lehman Township Democrat is running with over 30 contenders for one of the 11 open seats on the newly created county legislative body. "I am so honored and thrilled to have EqualityPA's support. Luzerne County has a large and diverse population and we need a government that will work for everyone and restore the people's faith and trust in the courthouse." Evans said. In Pennsylvania, it is still completely legal to disqualify someone from a work or terminate their employment if they are or are suspected of being gay or lesbian, however Luzerne County's personnel code does offer equal opportunity employment prohibiting discrimination based on actual or perceived sexual orientation (Personnel Policy Chapter 2.1, A; 2.2, A). "I will vote to maintain and protect the inclusion of sexual orientation in the non-discrimination policy for county employees if Council should ever decide to revisit the matter." Said Evans.

TOOLE’S LETTER

Wil Toole has penned a letter regarding Moon Lake Park. Toole is one of a very few candidates running for County Council that has some constructive ideas for the betterment of the county. Toole is an irritant to the current board of Commissioners because he constantly makes them look bad. For 2 years Toole has been offering solutions to Moon Lake. The Commissioners hired a consultant for $80,000 to tell them what anyone here in the County could tell them, that Moon Lake can be a money maker for them. Again, I don’t mind paying taxes for good services but to pay some egghead consultant short of $100,000 is obscene. Here’s what Toole wrote: Dear Editor, An article asking for public input into the Moon Lake recreation area caused me great frustration. I have offered a plan to the commissioners on several occasions. Just a month ago, I asked them to prepare an actual operating budget and have a top county official visit the president of the Mohegan Sun and ask if they would underwrite the budget and in turn earn the naming rights of the facility. The arena name has been sold several times and most recently the arena name Wachovia Arena was replaced with the current name Mohegan Sun Arena. What I propose would be accepting the budget help and offering the new name Mohegan Sun Moon Lake Recreational Facility as an inducement to Mohegan Sun to help. Of course, any company would serve the purpose. I also suggested that various community groups such as a Boy Scout Troop and or a High School Key Club could adopt the park and do volunteer work at the facility. I further suggested that the commissioners meet with the Luzerne County court in bank and ask if they could have offenders sentenced to public work serve their time at the park. Finally, I asked them to consider work groups from the county prison made up of the most trustworthy and short time inmates work at the park. The Luzerne County Tourist Promotion Agency could advertise the park as a 12 month facility. Winter for cross country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling and even winter camping which some people do enjoy. The other three season would be used for the warmer weather activities. It seems like the only idea worthwhile in Luzerne County is one that cost money. The commissioners have no problem spending $40,000 of the $80,000 (needed for a consultant) from a past bond. Would they consider even for a moment simply using the money to pay down the county's 460 million dollar debt? These county commissioners are much like the late Will Rogers, they never met a Consultant they didn't like! At the very least, do nothing and allow the new government to take action in January. Wil Toole

CONGRESSWOMAN COLEMAN?

Exeter Mayor Cassandra Coleman is being featured in the latest issue of Oprah “O” Magazine. Nice write up but what got many of the area politicos is her declaration that she’d like to run for Congress in 10 years. That is if the State GOP doesn’t gerrymander the 11th into North East Jesus, Pennsylvania.

Toole certainly has a better handle on things than most. And that Oprah deal with the Mayor from Exeter? I applaud Steve Corbett for reminding us all how she got there! She might have been elected in '09 but she was handed the thing because of nepotism. And it's not as if anyone wasn't interested. As for Casey Evans, too much of a hotshot for me. What can you know at age 23?? Maybe he can get in the Oprah magazine too!

Casey Evans has got to settle down, create a set of standards and stick to them. One day he is promoting a Liberal Agenda and the next he is kissing up to the ultra conservative group Campaign for Liberty. It seems that Casey Evans will tell anybody anthing necessary to get elected. Of course the people seem to swallow what they like to hear and right now Casey Evans is promising everything to everyone and the only group that shut hi down was Hazleton's Citizen's Oposing Political Opression who dismissed him as an officer of the group and then withdrew their endorsement of him. I guess to know him is to unendorse him! But here is the stinger. Bruce Simpson who in every way is a quality individual was being promoted as a top candidate for equl rights by the group that has been fooled by Casey Evans. What happened? Do they also endorse Bruce Simpson or not? I met Simpson on the campaign trail and was very impressed with his background. So why would that group not endorse Simpson with his bag full of life experiences and promote a candidate just out of diapers? Put that in your "Maybe I'm amazed." Af For Wil Toole, I agree, top not candidate with ideas and management experience.

Maybe I'm amazed that anyone would agree with Corbett when as he continues to bang our area. Why would Corporate America even consider moving here when the likes of Corbett and Sue Henry use every opportunity to tell the world how bad we are? Why would Corbett not recognize that Mayor Coleman is one of 6 women in the entire United States to be picked by Opra for this well publicized positive honor for Mayor Coleman Exeter and Luzerne County. We have met the enemy and they are us! For Luzerne county to recover, WILK radio had better begin to promote Luzerne county and stop the banging. We had problems, they have been and are continuing to be addressed to put a muzzle on Steve Corbett and Sue Henry. We don't need their negative talk shows. Personally, I would rather listen to the sounds of silence!

WE ARE BAD. FACE THE FACT. UNLESS WE CLEAN UP THE POLITICS AND OFFER VARYING OPINIONS, WE'RE DONE. EVERYTIME YOU BASH WILK YOU FORGET ONE THING, WHEN SOMEONE MAKES A COMMENT AND THEY DON'T GET AFFIRMATION, THAT'S A VOTE. BY SILENCE. STEVE TALKED ABOUT COLEMAN YESTERDAY ON HIS SHOW. MADE HIS POINT. NO ONE RESPONDED TO AGREE WITH HIM AS FAR AS I KNOW. THE TOPIC WAS VOTED ON BY HIS AUDIENCE. SUE POINTS OUT THE POLITICAL ROYALTY THAT WERE BORN ON THIRD BASE IN THIS AREA AND THINK THEY HIT A HOME RUN. NOTICE HOW MANY OF MIKE TOOLE'S RELATIVES ARE EMPLOYED AT THE COURTHOUSE? THEY MAKE LEGITIMATE CLAIMS. I CAN'T LISTEN ALL THE TIME BUT YOU SURE AS HELL SEEM TO. SO THANKS FOR INFORMING ME. AND BY THE WAY, IF CORPORATE AMERICA DID WANT TOCOME HERE, THE CHAMBERS IN WILKES BARRE AND SCRANTON WOULD FIND A WAY TO GIVE AWAY OUR TAX MONEY AND SCEEW THE WORKERS OUT OF LIVING WAGES THAT ARE PAID SOUTH OF HERE. SO DON'T THINK CORBETT AND HENRY AND WILK ARE CONVINCING THE CORPORATIONS THAT WE ARE AN EASY MARK, TYHEY ALREADY KNOW THAT. LOOK AT HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE COME...AND GONE. THERE IS A REASON WHY THE CHAMBERS AROUND HERE OWN SO MANY BUILDINGS! THEY AREN'T FILLED!

The "chairman against kids" complains but doesn't get what the race has become: The kid has moxie and campaigns like a pro and that frightens the politicos. COPS parted ways with him? Fantastic! They're a bunch of radicals that want to break Luzerne county into pieces when they don't get their way. The people that don't want him to win are either the people who want to protect the good old boy network, people who don't want the young talent coming in and upsetting their "establisment empire", or people that don't think too much of gay people. I say good for Casey Evans because the county has had enough of sidesteppers and weak Democrats, and finally here comes someone with courage. Someone needs to stand up for everyone's rights and he has shown he's got the right stuff and demonstrated his honesty to all of NEPA and state-wide recognition for something good instead of for something bad like corruption is good for Luzerne County. We have good people here willing to serve the public and they should be applauded for stepping into the political arena, especially the young people. I notice that our young Democrat isn't fleeing the area like his peers and is trying to contribute and make it better for all of us. Another is Michael Cabell who is a 25 year old Republican candidate and he deserves the same media coverage Evans gets for the same reason, because our young people that have chosen to make Luzerne County their home have just as much stake in its future as the rest of us. I'm frankly disappointed that more young talent didn't enter the race from either party, but the old political way didn't work and it's obvious. Cabell and Evans are intelligent men, maybe they'll be the fair and transparent officials that we've been waiting for. NEPA has always been slightly behind the times and maybe people like Casey Evans and Michael Cabell and James Bobeck who aren't good old boys can get in there and shake up the establishment and get some real work done for the county. Yonki, your other part of the post about Mayor Cassandra Coleman just demonstrates my point: she was appointed by Exeter borough council and then ran in her own right and WON with 97% of the vote! Clearly, the "chairman against kids" isn't from Exeter, because their 23 year old mayor must have been doing something right if she was elected by such a vast margin. Exeter gave their twenty-something year old mayor a chance and it's working. Luzerne County should give these men their opportunity to serve too.

I'm not the one who made the above comment. Although I agree with it. So when you think only one person thinks Corbett is bad for the area, think again.

Dave, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You defend Corbett and Henry and say, "face it, we are bad". No David, the correct term is we WERE bad. the bad guys have been removed so get out of tghe present tense and get off the bash Luzerne County train. I exp[ect more from you so don't disapoint me. We need to begin reb uilding ouir reputation a nd continuing to say how bad we are (present tense) we have got to put our best foot forward. Wake up and do the right thing, don't defend those mukrakers.emney

Mr Yonster, why would you stifle my comment meant to alert people against the folly of electng youthful inexperienced candidates. There was nothing false or misleading in my unublished comment. I admit that there might have been a point of embarassment with regard to living arrangements but should we be vigilent with regard to a candidate that will say or do anything to geet elected? Casey Evans has in fact presented a liiberal agenda and he has in fact courted the ultra conservative group Campaign for Liberty for their endorsement and the difference between the two is huge. This election is the most important in recent history, these people will create the foundation our governent will be built on and I have declared myself Chairman of Adults Against Kids in Control of Government. Don't you see the danger and potential harm of electing a 23 year old with minimal education and work or life experience? You need to be more than fair Mr Yonkster, you need to be vigilent in our quest for good governent. But that having been said, here is a simple question that each of us must answer. If we owned a very large company with over 1700 employees and revenues fo 125 million dollars a year, we hire a 23 year old with the credentials or lack there of as I just mentioned? You don't have to be fair to me Mr Yonkster but you should be fair to the voters and allow my comments to stand. Thank you for any consideration you give to printing THIS comment. Signed, Chairman of Adults Against Kids in Control of Government

When will you people ever learn Yonk is a WILK toadie. He carries their water on-line and he is friends with permanent guest host LA Tarone. He will never find flaw with anyone there because they would cut off his free exposure. Kind of like the old boy's network he and they complain about. The sad part is that Yonk knows the real Corbett all too well.

I think the Chairman of whatever is being a little over the top with his criticism. The more he speaks, the more Evans looks better and more credible by comparison alone.

Yonki is not a WILK toadie. Has it ever occurred to anyone that there's more than one media outlet in this area? Why don't you start your own blog and bash WILK until your heart is content? Until you do that, I have a suggestion: Simply turn the dial and tune out WILK if you don't like it. Easy solution.

Don't worry he omitted by comment about WILK folk. I miss the wild west format of Gort's site; it was much more enjoyable and fun than Yonki's Das Reich inspired site.

11:13pm and 10:53pm I agree with you both. But Yonki goes on defending and editing anything against those at WILK. It is a sound decision because they allow him on to plug his books free of charge. Okay it isn't that free because he has kind of sold freedom of speech for free air time. I think the problem with local talk has just become stale. They say the same thing day, after day. Sue Henry is NOT a true conservative, she is more neocon and Corbett isn't really anything his only goal is to beat people down. He is a bitter, bitter man who crave constant attention. No matter what is going on if no one is calling he mentions illegal immigration; if that doesn't work he mentions abortion. Same old predictable schtick. edited

Okay, a little perspective here. I am a 70 something disabled individual. My constant companions are my media. I have known Dave Yonki via the airwaves since 1973 when he did news for George Graham and then did classical overnights on WVIA FM. I’ve seen him on TV 44, 22 and On Line on that Hazleton station. Yo8u can call him a self promoter if you want but he has intelligent, funny things to say. Never met the man either. Here’s my point though, I listen to WILK every single day. I heard Yonki on WILK the day after the election in 2010 with Nancy and John. He was then on Sue’s program in early December to talk about his book. It is not as if he is on the airwaves every day like some people quoting psalms and promoting meetings the day they are supposed to happen. He has a right to defend some of the comments leveled against WILK. Since when is being provocative negative? You know when you listen to Corbett what you get. DON’T!!!! Sue has shown great respect for liberals she has interviewed. No surprise there. But Yonki has said over and over that he edits. It might be ambition, (why he hasn’t run for County Council I’ll never know!) it might be kindness but if you are going to slam anyone personally, you’ll be edited. Gort was good but I saw a few comments deleted after the fact. So let’s not make him a saint. Selling his freedom of speech (you have to be a right winger---we’re losing our freedom, we’re losing our freedom!!!) by editing your comments is a ridiculous statement to make. Two appearances on WILK in 5 months doesn’t make Yonki a media whore, editing your clap trap makes him a responsible individual. And by the way, whoever you are, write your own damn stuff. I’ll read!

8:39, what the heck does that mean? I have to wonder if you people have any clue as to the amount of time David puts into this blog and he doesn't ear a dime for his efforts. Just take a moment and read what he allows you jokers to write. Terrible personal criticism and he still allows it. Why? I sure as heck don't know but I will tell you one thing, if you idiots keep up with this personal bashing of a nice guy who works hard to put forth some great thoughts, you might just be creating a Gort follow up. Yes, I miss Gort42, it was fun to have a place to write whatever came to mind and pound whoever stepped on your toes in life but this is not that type of blog. David presents his thoughts and then allows you to beat the hell out of him. Maybe David is a masochist, who knows? I know David and we break bread when time allows. I enjoy our lunch breaks and always walk away knowing more than when I sat down. Easy folks, your gonna kill the golden goose. David's lunch buddy. Oh by the way, I do agree with the Chairman against kids. We do need some deep thinkers with creative minds and experience to fall back on.

With the Name recognition the Yonkster has, he would have been a shoe in for Council. But, then he would be on the inside and see first hand what government is all about and he might even gain a little respect for the people who wowrk in county government and he continues to bash at every opportunity. Serving might be a real learning experience for the Yonk.

NOT A MASOCHIST. BUT I ALLOW COMMENTS AGAINST ME BECAUSE I PUT MY NAME ON THIS STUFF. I WILL EDIT COMMENTS THAT ARE NASTY, DEGRADING AND UNTRUE ABOUT PEOPLE I'M WRITING ABOUT. I WILL ALSO EDIT COMMENTS THAT I THINK IMPUGN A PERSON'S REPUTATION WITHOUT THREE GOOD SORCES SAYING THE SAME THING.
David puts into this blog and he doesn't ear a dime for his efforts.
FULL DISCLOSURE: DON'T GET PAID FOR LULAC BUT HAVE SOLD A LOT OF BOOKS BECAUSE OF IT AND GAINED A LOT OF MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES TOO.
