The LuLac Edition #1944, February 14th, 2012

Forget the Groundhog, Phil who? The 2012 edition featuring 19 year old Kate Upton.

Kate Upton, this year's cover model of the SI Swimsuit edition.

OUR WINTER CHILL PILL!!!

The last few weeks have been pretty intense in America. We’ve been seeing a debate about contraception and the role of Government in the distribution of it via the Catholic Church. We have an incumbent President who still has not found his footing after 4 years. The Republican party has a front runner that no one is remotely excited about, a thrice married retread former Speaker of the House that has the potential to go Howard Beele on his at any given notice and an underestimated Christian Right Conservative Catholic from the Keystone State that just might surprise the bejesus out of us. Statewide, Governor Tom Corbett has presented another budget with deep cuts but found a way to give him imprimatur to the proposed Arlen Specter Library he was against during his campaign. Locally, we had two former County Commissioners sentenced to prison, a machete attack near the hallowed halls of GAR High School, a new County Government trying to get their footing under the dome in Wilkes Barre, and a burgeoning prison investigation into two babies born to a drugged up mother who did not or could not provide pre natal care to her infant even though she had a baby 8 months before. Plus, she wasn’t even our prisoner to begin with. The County workforce is under fire from everyone and that is both fair and unfair. The county workers have gotten no cover from their union heads or no direction either. Maybe if Tom Borum and Toni Seiwell, Field Representatives, for prisons and AFSCME 's ( American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees,) Paula Schnelly, would talk to the County Council and recognize that they are turning public sentiment against their own people who are just trying to get by and live their lives, things might be different. Weather wise, we have a few local weathermen on the verge of orgasm because we are getting snow showers instead of a full blown blizzard. With no snow since October 30th, most people are walking on eggshells hoping not to tempt the fate of the weather gods.
So with all of that happening, it is a day to take a step back and realize that a traditional winter landmark has approached. Never mind the groundhog, the release of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is when all of us see in our imagination our own shadow. Our own shadow in the blazing hot sun on a warm, comforting beach. Today we take the day off from debating….and just take our annual winter chill pill. Breathe…relax…and enjoy the serenity.
And by the way, Happy Valentine’s Day to anyone celebrating it. If you have a loved one, cherish them. If you’re alone, celebrate anyway. Because as they said in the Mohammad Ali movie, “learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all”.

Three points, the union heads should talk to the workers. I have a friend who works in the Courthouse and she does want to be one of those 56. There should be better communications save for "there's going to be a mtg tonight...show up". It's almost like a death watch.
The Swimsuit issue is so passe it is not funny. It's becoming kind of a cliche. But it comes out days before pitchers and catchers.
Third, I really appreciate the coverage you are giving to Rick Santorum. You saw a lot of things that not many people were seeing a few months ago. The guy connects. Like Reagan, you may not agree with him but can't dislike him personally.

I dislike him personally! Its not difficult at all. Always did, always will. The reasons are many.

"Can't dislike him personally??"

I loathe this bag of hate and conservatism. If that's the best the Republicans can do, than Obama gets a second term. Thank you GOP!!

It is going to be a very bruising fight for the GOP nod. Insures Barry Obama for 4 more years. Nice break Yonk. We all needed to simmer down what with dead babies, high taxes and county workers afraid for their jobs.

People sometimes ask me how I can do a political blog everyday and how it will affect people's lives or what politicians will do. The answer is it won't. It's just what I do. Don Draper once said, "I hate to break it to you but there is no big lie. There is no system. The universe is indifferent." Nobody's right, nobody's wrong, everyone has an opinion. But in the end.....the universe is listening but doesn't really give a crap. So glad my readers do though! Thanks.

You used the word "free" about 10 times in your affordable health care segment.
You know better, right?
