MAYBE I'M AMAZED

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..that people never realize how important local government is when it comes to safety. Look at what happened in Hazleton on the Fourth when a hydrant had low water pressure and hindered firefighters from doing their job. Public safety first guys! Remember that!
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that until the 19th century, solid blocks of ice were used as currency (to all you state workers out there, that’s money) in Siberia.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that on the Fourth of July, Americans eat an estimated 150 million hot dogs! But hot dog sales are off because of the high price of beef. A leader though, up 17% is Nathan’s. My top three are, Sabrett’s, Nathan’s and Hebrew National. But I buy them on sale.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that if you want to see what type of crime is happening in Wilkes Barre, Facebook is a great barometer to see what neighbor got their flat screen stolen, who is duking it out on the streets and which business is getting held up. Better than a scanner.  Well, I'm sure scanners help, but FB comes in handy too.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that if you want to drive through Texas at the speed limit, the state is so huge it will take you 24 hours to go from east to west or north to south.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Governor Tom Corbett seems to be blaming the House Democrats for killing his transportation bill because the head of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union told Democrats to stop it. The reason was because the Governor wanted liquor privatization. Huh? How can Democrats, kill a bill when Corbett has majorities in the House and Senate? His logic is just plain crazy. But it must be a GOP thing because John Boehner blamed the Democrats for screwing up the Farm Bill. Nancy Pelosi was right, if you have the majority, you have the votes. If you can’t get your own people to go along with your programs, you’re an amateur.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that Miami installed its first ATM just for rollerblading!
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..that people who are getting huge increases in health care are getting it from the insurance companies who want to make one more killing before the Affordable Health Care Act kicks in. The fact that Insurance companies won’t be able to handle claims  is crazy. They are all making mega salaries now as overhead, sponsoring Baseball and Hockey teams, have huge surpluses and they can’t figure out a way not to lose money? In 1965 they said the same thing when Medicare was passed but it turned into a boon for Insurance Companies selling supplemental programs. Cry me a freaking river with your surpluses. And you’re crazy if you are blaming a law, not yet implemented for your businesses’ decision to either raise your premium or cut your health care.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED………that the people who drive those big ass pickup trucks on the road belong to two age demographics. You have guys who are 106 wearing a ball cap chugging along at 40 mph on the highway. Then you have the 19 year olds that mistake their big trucks for rocket ships and go barreling down the road at 80. I mean there’s no middle ground here. I know three guys who drive responsibly. That's it.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED………that a guy in Nanticoke gets run over in front of his house crossing the street. According to neighbors what killed him was a good thing. Seems the street was resurfaced and repaved a year ago and the numb skull drivers, instead of being grateful for a smooth surface use it to speed on at 2:30 in the morning. And as usual, the driver didn’t stop. Remember when Detroit was the murder capital of the world? Maybe Luzerne County should be known as “The Hit and Run” capital of the world. This incident once again proves that we as an area can’t stand prosperity or good things to improve a community because some idiot will abuse it and kill someone.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..that a few weeks back Slim Whitman died at the age of 90. Whitman was an iconic music star of the late 50s and 60s who exported his talents. Much was made of the fact that Whitman had an ad that claimed he sold a record in England that sold more than the Beatles and Elvis combined. Here’s that ad.

I CAN'T AGREE MORE. IN THE OLD DAYS WHEN SOMEONE DIED, YOU HAD SOMEONE SIT IN THE HOUSE SO THAT CROOKS WOULDN'T ROB THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF FOOD AND CASH WHILE THEY WERE AT THE FUNERAL HOME OR CHURCH.
THESE SCUMBAGS HAVE COMPUTERS THEY STOLE, I PHONES ETC. YEP, YOU'RE RIGHT. AND WHY IS IT THAT WHEN A DRUG DEALER GETS BUSTED, THEY DRIVE A BETTER CAR THAN ME AND YOU? I MEAN I KNOW THE ANSWER BUT HEY, JUST SAYING.

Yonk you really need to understand the economics of ObamaCare.

YOUNG people and healthy people, who typically don't have health issues and therefore paid the lowest premium will pay more in order to cover all those who are older and those with pre-existing conditions who otherwise would not have those conditions covered (or pay a lot to cover them).

Without the increase insurance companies would go bankrupt since there is more money going out than coming in.

It appears that certain protocols will be mandated with little deviation permitted. Again, increased costs.

All these things and more were predicted Yonk. Predicted BEFORE we needed to pass the Act so we could see what is in it.

So much of this is common sense wrapped in basic economics that I am weary of the whining. Enjoy the "real world lessons" brought to you by people who think you are too stupid to do it yourself.

On May 7th 2013, the NYT published a news piece on the Affordable Care Act that accuses Republicans of “preparing to exploit every problem that arises” with Obamacare in the next midterm elections. The most telling part of the piece comes at the end. After heaping scorn on Republican opportunism, the author delves into what Obama will need to do to make the ACA work:

"The stakes for the president are high. The ultimate success of the law, and in turn his domestic legacy, depends on how well the insurance marketplaces operate, and whether enough young Americans enroll for coverage..."

He will especially urge healthy young adults, those up to 35 years old, and minorities — groups in which he has “a lot of cachet,” to sign up starting Oct. 1 for the new exchanges. Beginning Jan. 1, most Americans must have insurance or pay fines.

Without the participation of that generally healthy young population, insurance premiums for everyone else would increase—threatening support for a law already short of it.

In short, the success of the ACA wholly depends on President Obama’s ability to persuade young people to voluntarily subsidize the old. If young people don’t agree to sign up for expensive plans full of benefits many of them don’t need, the oldsters won’t be able to afford the high cost of their plans.

This is exactly why you should be worried about the ACA from the beginning: It is founded on a huge generational transfer from young to middle-aged. This is an especially bad deal for younger generations, not least because the rapidly growing costs of health care (which the ACA doesn’t do enough to control) pretty much guarantee that they won’t be able to have the same kind of benefits as today’s middle aged by the time they reach their 50s.

The Democratic plan to make Obamacare work apparently boils down to a hope that the President can successfully abuse the trust that young people have placed in him by convincing them sign them up in large numbers for a bad deal.
