TRUMP AND DACA
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announcing the end to DACA (Photo: CNN)
Demonstrations against the actions by this REPUBLICAN administration.

Donald Trump decided to kick the can down the road to the United States Congress. In the morning he sent his elfin Attorney General to tell the Dreamers that they had six months to get their affairs in order. The big man with the big ego sent Jeff Sessions out to do the dirty work.
There are 800,000 Dreamers. None of them are eligible for welfare (as the Facebook loudmouths would have you believe) and most of them pay taxes and work. Some are teachers, some are in the military. But Trump tells them they have to go home.
After the outrage of his own party, Trump changed his mind saying he might “revisit” it if Congress doesn’t act on it. Sessions was then left hanging and so were The Dreamers.
The 800,000 came here as children carted by their parents who did something illegal. But the kids had no choice. When President Obama made D.A.C.A. possible, the Dreamers needed to give their information to the government. They willingly did.
Now because of a REPUBLICAN President and his vocal minority of selfish bigots who got theirs and doesn’t want anyone else to get theirs, those 800,000 GOT SCREWED.
This was a shameful day for America made so by a BIG P**** President who had no idea what the consequences were of his decision. Now Congress (fat chance) has to do something. The neanderthal  Freedom caucus will put the screws to it.
To those Hispanics who supported Trump, way to go to screw your own people! Good job!

NORTH KOREA AND THE US

Kim and Don (Photo: Cincinnati.com)

I grew up in the early 1960s. I remember air raid drills right before The Cuban Missile Crisis. I remember saying the Rosary in church with the nuns in those dark days of October 1962. The back channel negotiations as well as the even handed decision making of President Kennedy saved our asses.
We have no such luxury now with President Trump taunting the North Koreans. There is no good option for North Korea.
It is true that the United States under 2 Democratic and 2 Republican administrations let this fester. But that was then and this is now.
The key here is to get North Korea talking. But their leader doesn’t want to talk. He wants to show off his strength. In his mind, this is his legacy.
Trump has called for stronger sanctions that were presented before the UN Security Council Wednesday. There are those who say Trump is playing good cop, bad cop but he is not in a real estate deal. He’s up against a focused dictator who has built a fortress around his regime.
The only hope is China because Kim Un Jong has been blocking the path that China wants to take as the top economic power in the world. Sanctions though in the last ten years have had no impact on North Korea. As a matter of fact they have increased their capability despite being strangled by them.
Our side should cool down the rhetoric because the less we talk, the more time North Korea has to increase its arsenal. You don’t want them negotiating anything from a base of strength.

ONE GOING UP….
ONE GOING DOWN

By Congressman Lou Barletta announcing for the Senate seat of Robert Casey, he pretty much has decided to commit political suicide. Now I know there are those who say Lou likes to gamble and is dogged in his pursuit of a goal. But as I pointed out many times, Donald Trump carried Luzerne County by 44,000 votes. Half of them came from Luzerne County. The rest of Pennsylvania is not Luzerne County.
Plus Barletta needs to make it through the primary. His opponents are;
Paul Addis - Businessman
Cynthia Ayers
Jeff Bartos - Real estate developer
Jim Christiana - State Rep.
Paul DeLong
Bobby Lawrence
Rick Saccone - State Rep.
Andrew Shecktor
Look for Bartos to give him a run for his money. I thought for sure that Barletta had a chance at the primary but when he embraced the President’s stand on D.A.C.A. any chance of him carrying moderate Republicans in the state is nil.
So Barletta is on the way down even though he and his supporters may not realize that.
A guy on the rise is Dan Meuser. Meuser announced for the seat the other day and will bring a fresh record. Now he is Conservative as the day is long but running against Meuser will be much different than running against Barletta's record. With virtually no primary opposition even being talked about, the former Commerce Secretary under Tom Corbett is a lock for this seat. He should send a huge thank you note to Barletta and mark it, Attention: Personal/Hubris gone bad. Here are the announcements from this week.

DAN MEUSER TO RUN FOR 11TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT SEAT
BUSINESSMAN AND FORMER REVENUE SECRETARY TO CONTINUE BARLETTA’S WORK
11th Congressional District candidate Dan Meuser (Photo: Meuser for Congress)
Luzerne County Businessman and former Secretary of the Department of Revenue Dan Meuser announced today that he was entering the race to represent the 11th District in the United States Congress. Congressman Lou Barletta announced days ago that he would run for the United States Senate.
“I have always supported Lou Barletta and I plan to continue to support him in his run for the United States Senate,” Dan Meuser said. “Both Lou and I will fight for an agenda that puts America’s interests first and rebuilds the middle class so the economy works for everyone.”
Dan has lived in the area that makes up the 11th District for over 25 years, he and his wife of 27 years raising their family in the district. Dan joined Pride Healthcare, based in Luzerne County and now called Pride Mobility Products, in 1988. Dan became President of Pride Mobility, USA in 2001. Pride has become the leading manufacturer of power mobility and complex rehab devices in the country, and employs over 800 people in Northeast Pennsylvania.
"I've spent 25 years in the private sector helping create thousands of jobs. During this time my wife and I supported many important causes including the YMCA, local colleges, the Back Mountain Recreation Association and the Wyoming County Children's Association,” Meuser said.
In 2010, Dan was appointed and unanimously confirmed Secretary of the Dept. of Revenue. Dan and his team worked to reform the department, implement customer-first policies, and treat taxpayers like customers. Under Dan’s leadership, the Department was named the most improved Department of Revenue in the country and received a grade improvement from a D+ to an A- from the Council on State Taxation.
“We worked day in and day out to make sure that everyone knew that it was taxpayers who came first at the Department of Revenue,” Meuser said. “Our team reformed the department and turned it into a taxpayer advocacy agency, rather than a mere collector of taxes.”
Dan Meuser is running first and foremost because he loves his country and wants to continue to serve his community. Dan will be a consistent conservative voice in Washington, making sure that he takes the values of the 11th District to Washington every day. Dan will be an advocate for an economy that works for everyone, a healthcare system that provides access and affordability without the heavy handed federal mandates of Obamacare, and a strong military ready to defeat ISIS and any other threat to our nation, and to secure our borders.
“I’m a constitutional conservative who will always put the needs of America first,” Meuser said. “I want to restore our broken political system by always working on behalf of the people of the 11th District.”
Dan also believes that the next Congressman must be accessible to the people he serves.
“I will be very engaged and constituent focused, making sure that I am accessible and transparent,” Meuser said. “That means being involved in resolving issues, large and small, throughout the district.”
Dan will be traveling the 11th District visiting each county over the next 2 weeks.
You can watch Dan’s announcement video, learn more about Dan and the campaign, sign up to volunteer, and donate at www.meuserforcongress.com. You can also contact the campaign at info@meuserforcongress.com or at 717.743.1568.

BARLETTA SUPPORTS PRESIDENT’S DECISION TO RESCIND DACA
CALLS FOR CONGRESS TO STAND-UP FOR THE FORGOTTEN AMERICAN BY SECURING OUR BORDERS AND ENFORCING OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS
Congressman Lou Barketta (Photo: Barletta office)
Congressman Lou Barletta this week released the following statement in support of President Trump’s decision to rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):
“I commend President Trump for placing a deadline on ending DACA and recognizing that decisions regarding immigration in this country rest with Congress, not the executive branch. When President Obama illegally granted amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, he improperly created more competition for American workers and legal immigrants who are already finding it difficult to get work. American citizens, or people who have come to the United States legally, should not have to suffer from others butting in line after they have broken the law to enter this country. Today, by putting such decisions back in the hands of Congress, President Trump is putting America first and making it clear that no president has the authority to create immigration law.
America is a proud nation of hard-working citizens and legal immigrants. Today’s announcement is a victory for the forgotten American worker and legal immigrants who followed the rule of law to become part of our nation. Too often in the debate about illegal immigration, the media and politicians focus on the person who came to this country illegally. No one talks about the American worker and legal immigrant whose wages are depressed and jobs are threatened by illegal immigration. I am proud to stand with those hard-working individuals and their families.
On this issue, I have been clear: We cannot have a conversation about those who are in our country illegally before we stop the flow of illegal immigration. We are dealing with this problem today because Congress has failed to enforce our laws and secure our borders. By putting the debate our fixing our broken immigration system into the hands of Congress, where it belongs, President Trump is giving the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate the chance to put the forgotten American first. The American people deserve to know that their government is serious about defending their security and protecting their jobs. Our country cannot afford for Congress to fail on this issue again.”

CASEY WARNS ADMINISTRATION NOT TO BACKSLIDE ON AFFIRMATIVE ACTION
RECENT REPORT SUGGESTED DOJ WAS MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR CASE DEALING WITH UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS POLICIES

Senator Bob Casey (Photo: Casey website)
In an effort to clarify recent reports of the Administration’s attempts to undermine diversity consideration in the college admissions process, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions calling for answers to four vital questions.
“The DOJ and Department of Education should, together, be working to preserve and promote the civil rights of all students, to ensure that individuals have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender, ethnicity, race, religion or disability,” wrote Senator Casey. “I have serious concerns that an investigation into college admissions policies conducted by political appointees does not advance these goals.”
The full text of the letter can be found below:
Dear Secretary DeVos and Attorney General Sessions:
I write today to seek additional information on efforts by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate admissions policies at colleges and universities. On August 1, it was reported that the DOJ was seeking attorneys to work on “investigations and possible litigation related to intentional race-based discrimination in college and university admissions,” an apparent reference to the admissions policies instituted by many colleges and universities to ensure that diversity on campus reflects the diversity of the country at large. Furthermore, reports indicated that the project will be run by political appointees at DOJ, rather than the career civil servants in the Department’s Educational Opportunities Section. Protecting and promoting the civil rights and opportunities of all students should be a core priority of both DOJ and the Department of Education. I have serious concerns that an investigation like this, carried out by political appointees, undermines that goal.
In a statement issued on August 2, a DOJ spokesperson indicated that the investigation into college admissions was currently limited to a single case involving Harvard University. Nevertheless, whether the Department intends to expand this investigatory project to other institutions, or pursue this single instance as a test case, I am troubled by the impact it could have on colleges and universities, whose admissions policies could make them a target of legal action by political appointees at the DOJ. I am also concerned that the DOJ’s actions could have a chilling effect on colleges’ and universities’ efforts to increase diversity on campus and promote educational opportunity for all Americans.
Accordingly, I request that you provide me with answers to the following questions:
• Does the DOJ intend to investigate admissions processes at colleges and universities other than the Harvard University case?
• Does the DOJ intend to pursue admissions-related legal action against colleges and universities, many of whom have relied on Supreme Court precedent in tailoring their admissions policies?
• Will this investigation, or these investigations, be run by political appointees, rather than the career civil servants in the Educational Opportunities Section, as has been reported?
• If so, why was this decision made? How does this decision give confidence to the American public that these attorneys will be working to promote the civil rights of all students, rather than pursuing a political agenda?
The DOJ and Department of Education should, together, be working to preserve and promote the civil rights of all students, to ensure that individuals have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender, ethnicity, race, religion or disability. I have serious concerns that an investigation into college admissions policies conducted by political appointees does not advance these goals. I request a response to this letter, including answers to the questions posed above, by Tuesday, September 5.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Robert P. Casey, Jr.
United States Senator

Trump kicked the issue of DACA to the legislative branch - where it belongs. Now let them hash out the fix.

Funny how you are now displaying the behavior you so self righteously criticized those who spewed it towards the severely tanned Kenyan.

When it was first announced that President Donald Trump was going to reverse President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program I have to admit, before I knew the details I felt a little bad for those impacted. Then I researched it and learned the details and realized very few, if any of them, would ever be deported. After that, I saw footage of illegal immigrant activists, with their smug sense of entitlement and demanding chants, and became irritated. If they’d all been deported at that moment and you offered me a lot of money to do so, I would not have been capable of caring less.

Therein lies the problem with legislating, or doing almost anything, based on emotion and not logic. Yet that is exactly what any discussion or debate over immigration policy quickly devolves into - as illustrated by this blog's editor.

Congress has passed laws requiring that immigrants pay back taxes, learn English, not collect welfare and have good moral character. That's not too onerous, right? It's not like we're requiring them to have any skills or talents that would be valuable to America.

Every single one of these requirements has been scuttled by immigration bureaucrats, federal judges and Democratic presidents. All of 'em. Our immigration bureaucracy is so dedicated to destroying America that it's made citizens of thousands of convicted felons.

If you don't understand how that could happen, you have no idea how much our cultural elites hate this country. Their governing philosophy is: Anyone we bring in is at least better than an American!

This nation is mind-bogglingly generous. But decades of lies make it impossible for the most tender-hearted American to fall for this bait-and-switch one more time.

Every politician swears up and down that he wants a "secure border." But then these same politicians go absolutely berserk when Trump says he wants to build a wall.

They say we'll get enforcement right after the amnesty. That's obviously absurd. When the tub is overflowing, water pouring out of the faucet, across the carpets, down the stairs, up the dining room walls, we don't debate whether we're going to dry clean the curtains or throw them out. We don't argue about whether to use a mop or towels. FIRST: Turn off the water.

As long as both political parties stoutly refuse to build the wall, we know they are not serious about ever stopping illegal immigration. (Luckily, the Constitution gives the commander in chief full authority to protect our borders, with or without congressional approval.)

Yeah, Yonk, pesky thing that Constitution.

The problem with DACA and other 'executive orders" is that they are not statutory law, and they can be overturned by the next, or any other person, who sits in the executive chair.
What Trump has done is actually a good thing. He has pacified the anti-illegal immigrants, and he has forced congress to pass legislation to protect those who came her of their parents volition.
Once congress acts, passes legislation and Trump signs it, not they have real protection of the law, not a "dream" hinging on the whims of a president.

Ahh, and there it is. I have a birther as reader!

Where? Easy for you to say when we have a right wing attorney General who has the dreamers information in his tiny little hands.

Therein lies the problem with legislating, or doing almost anything, based on emotion and not logic.

IN RESPONSE

How "logical" is it to break an assurance? Hey this guy can do what he wants and he has heard the heat and fury. Why not join him in reconsidering.
And while we're at, where is your outrage on all the environmental regulations done away with by Trump's Executive actions?

WRONG!!!! It was the GOP who killed the Immigration reform bill that called for a path to citizenship. Thank Puny Pat Toomey and Little Marco for that!

Every politician swears up and down that he wants a "secure border." But then these same politicians go absolutely berserk when Trump says he wants to build a wall.

IN RESPONSE

Illegal immigration is down from Mexico. You want to build a northern border? The reason why they go berserk is because the sheer legal fights over who owns the land, the zoning regulations in each little town will make it impractical.

They say we'll get enforcement right after the amnesty. That's obviously absurd. When the tub is overflowing, water pouring out of the faucet, across the carpets, down the stairs, up the dining room walls, we don't debate whether we're going to dry clean the curtains or throw them out.

The last President was the king of deportation. He made sure the tub wasn't over flowing but the big REPUBLICAN lie has obviously infected you!

IN RESPONSE

Yeah, Yonk, pesky thing that Constitution.

IN RESPONSE

Luckily this President has no clue just what the hell the Constitution is. HE already back pedaled BECAUSE he wasn't even sure what he was declaring.
You have to ask did he even HEAR what he was saying in the campaign?

And under whose watch did North Korea become a nuclear power?
I love how you guys all think China is the answer. China gave them the technology. A strong North Korea, or an emerging North Korea, allows the spread of Chinese communism and distracts the world from whatever they are doing.
