Former Governor and Homeland Security Head Tom Ridge sounded the perfect note Sunday when he was on hand for the dedication of the Shanksville 911 Memorial.
While state and local officials, National Park Service staff and a crowd of several hundreds watched – and listened – friends and family members of those 40 gathered together to dedicate the Tower of Voices, ringing its metal chimes, 8 inches in diameter, for the first time.
“Now there will be an everlasting concert ... by 40 very special composers,” Ridge said, noting that each chime carries a distinct sound so that each of the passengers and crew members’ voices is represented.
“Rain or shine, their music will calm and comfort us.”
