THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD OF JOE BIDEN

For all intents and purposes, Joe Biden has clinched his place in this country as its 46th President today. He nearly died from a brain aneurysm in the 1990s. He survived a first wife who died with two young children in an auto accident. Biden ran for President in ’88 and 2008 failing.  He became Barack Obama’s Vice President and helped rebuild the economy. He pretty much stepped aside in 2016 when it was hinted it was Hillary Clinton’s turn. Some say it might have been his time but he would tell you himself he was still in the process of healing his family after the death of his son Bo.

Biden ran in a field of more than 20 people. He had very little money except for substantial fundraisers (one of which was held at Fox Hill in 2019) and lost five consequential primaries and caucuses. Taking a win in South Carolina, Biden then won almost every contest. He won states with virtually no money. His political foes left the race and immediately endorsed him.  Democrats picked him as the person who could defeat and stand up to Donald Trump.

In the general election he faced off against a movement politician whose behaviors were seemingly excused by most Americans. His birth state seemed to have forsaken him but in the end, when all the dust was settled, all the ballots (mail in and in person) were counted. Joe Biden prevailed. So too did his tenacity, decency and vision for who we really are as a people.

To all those who say he won’t finish his term, is a tool of the left, will destroy America, let me say this. It’s time to look ahead and be pleasantly surprised at what he can accomplish. It's time to buckle down and fix what has been broken the last few years.

I haven't really heard much from Republicans. I guess they have to wait until Monday for Rush Limbaugh to tell them how they should think, feel, believe and react.
