Impeachment 2.0 is taking place this week. Times Shamrock got it right when they outlined the reasons why Trump should be barred from office. It’s all about the evidence Chester!
SENATE SHOULD VOTE ACCORDING TO THE EVIDENCE IN TRUMP'S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL
Remember Jan. 6? Some U.S. senators would rather forget it, even though the violent insurrection that President Donald Trump inspired that day imperiled them, their staffs, and nothing less than the representative democracy of the United States.
Testimony begins today in Trump’s second impeachment trial, and the evidence of his impeachable conduct is abundant. It includes videos of his lie-laden speech and the mob’s reaction to it, including blunt statements by many of those who attacked the Capitol that Trump had spurred them to act.
The former president began to lay the foundation of the insurrection more than a year ago. Anticipating his own defeat by President Joe Biden, he began attacking the democratic election process itself, claiming fraud where none existed and demonizing governors and state election officials.
Throughout, hundreds of Republicans in Congress expressed their fealty to Trump rather than to the Constitution, the republic, and millions of Americans who had expressed their faith in our democracy by voting.
Even after the Trump-inspired mob stormed the Capitol, resulting in the deaths of a police officer and four others and forcing the Congress to stop its formal count of the Electoral College results and flee the House and Senate chambers, the charade continued.
U.S. Reps. Dan Meuser and Fred Keller of Northeast Pennsylvania and 145 of their House colleagues, along with seven senators, voted to invalidate the votes of millions of Pennsylvanians.
Accountability for this tragedy is necessary. Senators, who serve as jurors in impeachment trials, should vote in accordance with the evidence rather than their own need to assuage Trump’s political base.
