WRITE ON WEDNESDAY
This week we echo a letter from the Times Leader regarding the ignorant and needless assault on Asian Americans.
WE STAND WITH OUR AMERICAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF ASIAN DESCENT
We want to add our voices to those across our community, state and nation who are speaking out in support of our American brothers and sisters of Asian descent, whose safety has been at risk since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The surge in attacks against Americans of various Asian backgrounds in cities across the U. S. reflects unacceptable xenophobia and bigotry. Scapegoating during the pandemic has caused pain and anxiety among Asian Americans, as well as among their friends, colleagues and family members.
We want to reassure the Asian American members of our community that the Peace and Justice Center stands with them against bigotry and violence.
We pledge to make every effort to bring about greater understanding of biases and false belief systems with the hope of eradicating the culture of xenophobia. Everyone can get involved in this effort through acts of kindness and support of businesses owned by people of Asian descent in our community.
We would also encourage members of the community of various Asian backgrounds to consider participating in activities related to our Peace Camp this June and/or planning other educational programs for the larger community with us.
