Our 13 Questions logo.
1. The very annoying Chuck Todd will be exiting “Meet the Press”. Any thoughts?
I never thought he was annoying, but some people did. Any host has a shelf life and I think Chuck was aware that maybe his act was waning. He has had a great record at NBC and he will certainly be a force in their 2024 coverage. The addition of Kristen Welker as host completes the network trifecta of women anchors of the three original network shows. Margaret Brennan took over for Bob Schieffer (white male), Martha Raddatz as co host joining George Stephaoloplis (white male) and now Welker for Todd. (White male). Once the bastion of white guys, all qualified, this is a good reflection of our society.
2. Will former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stand up to Donald Trump?
Most people say yes but I reserve judgement. After Trump bested him in ’16 Christie became a willing sycophant. Christie views himself as someone who can stand up to and present a contrast with former President Donald Trump, the early front-runner in the polls. Christie, who was once a Trump ally, may be the only candidate in the race so far who is willing to openly criticize former President Donald Trump on a regular basis. We shall see.
3. Why do you think so many GOP candidates are jumping in to oppose Trump?
I think they see it as an opportunity because they are betting he’ll be disabled by indictments. But two things are wrong with that. First is his supporters will support him no matter what thinking that it is a witch hunt, never mind the fact is multiple locations and different charges. The other is none of them have the balls to take him on except Christie and Hutchinson.
4. What do you think of the Republican Congressman who says Joe Biden was on the take when he was Obama’s Vie President?
The guy is a liar. He is trying to deflect from what Trump is doing. This is what these guys do. Lie, deflect and somehow live with themselves.
5. Summer is upon us, favorite summer veggies?
Fresh tomatoes and corn on the cob.
6. Trump looks like he will soon be indicted on the classified documents charge. Ironic huh?
Very. This
is the guy who made a big deal out of Hillary Clinton’s e mails. Lock her up
his minions chanted. But it looks like he took a treasure trove of paper to
either sell, show off to his friends or use for nefarious purposes. Or worse
yet, he had no clue what was in them and how dangerous releasing them could be.
He’ll scream and cry about Pence and Biden also having them but there is no comparison. EDITOR'S NOTE: You were right on point when you sent this question in last Friday.
7. Your boy Joe took a tumble. Ready to give up on him?
Not at all. He will be running and re-elected. Look, he tripped on a sandbag which should not have been on the stage. He was agile enough to break his fall by landing on his side and not getting head or face lacerations like I did last fall. That sand bag should not have been there in the first place. He gave a long address and did his job without missing a beat. I will never, ever give up on Joe.
8. What do you think of Chris Christie and Donald Trump weighing in on the issues of the day?
Okay, I’ll play. Will Christie bug Trump? Fat chance! Will Trump make fun of Christie’s size? He won’t use the word corpulent because he can’t spell it. Will Christie bring up Trump’s addition to women, both thin and fleshy? Will Trump accuse Christie of buying his suits in the portly size?
Chances of these two NOT insulting each other in the ’24 campaign are SLIM.
9. Did you ever get the opportunity to see Tina Turner in concert?
No I did not. Her music through was extremely empowering to women. I loved the initial solo hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It” which was turned down by many famous singers. A woman of courage and dignity, Turner will be remembered as the icon she became.
10. Are you glad that Romilda Crocamo is back as Luzerne County manager?
Yes indeed. I’ve been at a few meetings with her since she started the new/old job and she interacts well with people, is obviously dedicated to the people of the county and unlike some members of the county council she seeks to build and not tear down the growth of Luzerne County.
11. What in the world is period poverty? Historical reference?
Not at all Period poverty exists in one out of 3 Americans. Defined as the lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, waste management and education that affects many women globally, “period poverty” can cause physical, mental and emotional challenges. The World Bank estimates the gender inequity impacts 500 million people across the globe. In some areas of the country, as many as 20 percent of women, girls and individuals who menstruate couldn’t access or afford period and hygiene products, leading to absenteeism at school, missed work opportunities and a widening gender divide. A non profit agency, Dignity Grows has expanded to nearly 60 chapters across the country with a 3,000-strong volunteer base, and distributed over 110,000 tote bags filled with a month’s supply of period and hygiene essentials.
12. How are you dealing with the smoke from Canada?
Hanging in there. Last Wednesday was a very difficult day because the smoke was very heavy. The air felt heavy too and having had heart surgery almost a year ago, I was vigilant.
13. I saw you attended the Gary Lewis and the Playboys show last month. Favorite song ever?
This was my
favorite the first time I heard it and still is to this day.
