MITCH MCCONNELL ENDORSES DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell announced Wednesday he will support Donald Trump for the presidency, a move that comes more than three years after they have last spoken and after the Kentucky Republican pointedly blamed Trump for the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

“It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,” McConnell said in a statement. “It should come as no surprise that as nominee, he will have my support.”

McConnell’s announcement came just minutes after Trump’s final substantive primary challenger – former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley – said she would leave the race the morning after Super Tuesday, in which Trump dominated the races across the country.

McConnell, who hasn’t spoken to Trump since December 2020, didn’t speak to him before he issued his endorsement, according to another source familiar with the matter. The source said that LaCivita and Holmes spoke instead.

This guy will go down in history as a Stooge and a lackey for Trump. Even though he was a senior senator for nearly 4 decades, he did virtually nothing for Kentucky.

Plus he’s a hypocrite of the highest order. Listen to what he said about Trump and the Insurrection.(CNN, LuLac)

BIDEN DEBATE TRUMP?

No way. Donald Trump has disgraced the Presidency when he was in office. He has nothing new to offer except lies, insults, dementia and directorial bullying. He is a CRIMINAL., 'HE IS A KNOWN RAPIST and attacker of women.

To have Joe Biden or ANY Democrat, make THAT ANY CITIZEN ENTER INTO A DEBATE WITH him, Diaper Don, always lying and full of shit.,..,would demean the Presidency and this country.

To the debate Joe, SAY NO!

CARTWRIGHT MAKES MIDDLE CLASS HIS TOP PRIORITY

Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)

In Congress, one of my top priorities is to support policies that strengthen the middle class and bring good jobs to our region. I know our country succeeds when the middle class succeeds and that's why I'm fighting to support jobs in manufacturing, to invest in job training programs and small businesses, and to ensure that millionaires finally pay their fair share in taxes.

That’s why I was proud to help pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which will lower the cost of prescription drugs, health insurance, and energy costs while fighting inflation, reducing the deficit, and making the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.

I also helped pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which will give all working people and families a better shot at a good middle-class life, and a fair chance to share in the success of a growing economy.

This Bipartisan legislation will rebuild America’s roads, bridges and rails – including passenger rail from NEPA to New York City - expand access to clean drinking water, ensure every American has access to high-speed internet, tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice, and invest in communities like Northeast Pennsylvania that have too often been left behind.

Most importantly, this legislation will drive the creation of good-paying union jobs throughout our district. Workers’ rights are the pillars of a strong American middle class, especially in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

I also believe in expanding science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs so that students have a well-rounded education and can be competitive on the global stage. We live in a changing world with an evolving skill-based economy. Many companies now hire based on skills, rather than looking at formal degrees, which is why we need to support apprenticeships and other training programs.

Strengthening the middle class is key to building a robust economy and making sure that everyone has a chance at the American Dream. Working families make up the backbone of our economy. It is imperative that we help them prosper, so our country prospers.

CASEY INTRODUCES BILL TO BOOST DISCRIMINATION PROTECTIONS FOR STUDENTS

CASEY PUSHES FOR INCREASED FUNDING FOR THE OFFICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS (OCR) WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, WHICH ENFORCES CIVIL RIGHTS LAWS IN SCHOOLS

IN A DECEMBER LETTER TO APPROPRIATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE, CASEY EMPHASIZED CONCERNING RISE IN ANTISEMITISM, ANTI-MUSLIM, AND ANTI-ARAB DISCRIMINATION ON CAMPUSES SINCE HAMAS’ OCTOBER 7 ATTACK.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced the Showing Up for Students Act, which provides $280 million in additional funding for the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the U.S. Department of Education. The OCR is the office responsible for protecting the civil rights of students in American schools, including from incidents related to antisemitism, anti-Muslim, and anti-Arab discrimination or harassment. Amidst a notable increase in reported incidents of antisemitism, anti-Muslim, and anti-Arab actions in schools across the Nation, the bill would give OCR the capacity to meet the moment and ensure students are free from harassment and discrimination.

“Every student—regardless of their race, gender, disability, or religion—deserves to go to school without facing discrimination,” said Senator Casey. “As incidents of antisemitism, anti-Muslim, and anti-Arab harassment increase in schools rise across the Nation, Congress has an obligation to act. We must provide the Office for Civil Rights the resources it needs to keep our students safe from discrimination and hate.”

The Showing Up for Students Act would provide the Office for Civil Rights with the funds it needs to protect students from harassment and discrimination. This effort follows a disturbing rise in incidents involving antisemitic, anti-Muslim, and anti-Arab harassment, vandalism, and assault on school campuses. According to data from the U.S. Department of Education, between October 1, 2023 and February 15, 2024, OCR received 219 complaints involving Title VI shared ancestry investigations, the category under which complaints relating to antisemitism, anti-Muslim, and anti-Arab discrimination are classified. This is a staggering increase of a 1,360 percent in the number of complaints compared to the same time period the year before. The surge in complaints must be met by an increase in resources for OCR.

For years, funding for OCR has not kept up with the trending increase in need for their services. Through OCR, students can file a complaint against their school for failure of the administration to prevent or respond to a violation or incident. OCR will then investigate the student’s complaint, make a determination of wrongdoing against the school, and potentially levy consequences against the school administration. Senator Casey’s Showing Up for Students Act will ensure OCR finally has the funding to respond appropriately to these cases, hire additional staff, resolve cases in a timelier manner, and increase capacity to help schools proactively prevent the discrimination and harassment of students.

The Showing Up for Students Act is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), John Fetterman (D-PA), Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Laphonza Butler (D-CA), and Tim Kaine (D-) Herre’s thye link:

GOVERNOR SHAPIRO LAUNCHES PENNSYLVANIA ELECTION THREATS TASK FORCE TO ENSURE SAFE, SECURE, FREE, & FAIR ELECTION THIS NOVEMBER

GOVERNOR SHAPIRO AND SECRETARY SCHMIDT LEAD TASK FORCE OF FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL PARTNERS TO PROTECT DEMOCRACY AND ENSURE SAFE, SECURE ELECTIONS IN PENNSYLVANIA

As part of his commitment to ensure safe and secure elections in Pennsylvania, Governor Shapiro has established the Pennsylvania Election Threats Task Force. Led by Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt, the Task Force is comprised of federal, state, and local security, law enforcement, and election administration partners who are working together to share information and coordinate plans to mitigate threats to the election process, protect voters from intimidation, and provide voters with accurate, trusted election information.

“Pennsylvania is the birthplace of American democracy, and we are working to continue defending Pennsylvanians’ fundamental freedoms and ensure we have a free, fair, safe, secure election this November. As Attorney General, I brought law enforcement leaders at every level together to ensure our elections remained free from fraud, interference, and intimidation here in Pennsylvania – and I made a commitment to continuing that work as Governor,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “We take our responsibility as stewards of our democracy seriously and the Election Threats Task Force will ensure all levels of government are working together to combat misinformation, safeguard the rights of every citizen, and ensure this election is safe, secure, free, and fair.”

As Attorney General, Shapiro went to court dozens of times to defend Pennsylvanians’ right to vote and ensure every legal vote was counted. He prosecuted voter fraud and voter intimidation cases, upholding the rule of law and protecting Pennsylvanians’ rights.

In recent years, Pennsylvania has strengthened election administration and improved election integrity by adopting new, state-of-the-art voting systems with auditable paper trails that changed how voters cast their ballot, as well as the introduction of no-excuse mail-in voting in 2020.

“In recent years, we’ve seen bad-faith actors attempt to exploit these changes by spreading lies and baseless conspiracy theories, and attempting to delegitimize our safe, secure, and accurate elections,” said Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt. “This task force has been working together to develop and coordinate plans to combat this dangerous misinformation and continue providing all eligible voters with accurate, trusted election information. Together with Governor Shapiro and our local, state, and federal partners, we will continue working to ensure we have another free and fair, safe and secure election.”

In 2018, the Wolf Administration convened an Inter-Agency Election Preparedness and Security Workgroup, which met on a regular basis and played an invaluable role in coordinating election preparedness efforts through the beginning of the Shapiro Administration.

At Governor Shapiro’s direction, the Department of State recently convened the Election Threats Task Force to continue that work and include additional key law enforcement partners. The task force’s purpose is to establish clear, strategic communication and information sharing among public agencies and officials to identify and mitigate threats to the election process.

Among the participants are representatives from key entities at every level of government, including:

Governor’s Office

Office of General Counsel

Department of State

Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs

Office of State Inspector General

U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s Office of the Attorney General

County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP)

Representatives from among the Commonwealth’s county election directors

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Pennsylvania State Police

Administration’s Office of Information Technology

Governor’s Office of Homeland Security

Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency

Pennsylvania National Guard

“Every eligible Pennsylvania voter has the right to cast their vote safely and securely,” said Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris. “The Pennsylvania State Police is committed to working with our partners to ensure voters are safe and any threats are mitigated.”

In addition to the creation of the Election Threats Task Force, the Shapiro Administration and the Department of State have also recently increased face-to-face public interactions, produced handouts that provide critical nonpartisan information on voting and election security, and created a fact-check webpage on vote.pa.gov.

Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau announces his retirement. From the late 1960s until the mid-1980s, Trudeau's personality dominated the political scene to an extent never before seen in Canadian political life. After his appointment as prime minister, he won the 1968, 1972, and 1974 elections, before narrowly losing in 1979. He won a fourth election victory shortly afterwards, in 1980, and eventually retired from politics shortly before the 1984 election. Trudeau is the most recent prime minister to win four elections (having won three majority governments and one minority government) and to serve two non-consecutive terms. His tenure of 15 years and 164 days makes him Canada's third-longest-serving prime minister, behind John A. Macdonald and William Lyon Mackenzie King.

Despite his personal motto, "Reason before passion", Trudeau's personality and policy decisions aroused polarizing reactions throughout Canada during his time in office. While critics accused him of arrogance, of economic mismanagement, and of unduly centralizing Canadian decision-making to the detriment of the culture of Quebec and the economy of the Prairies, admirers praised what they considered to be the force of his intellect and his political acumen that maintained national unity over the Quebec sovereignty movement. Trudeau suppressed the 1970 Quebec terrorist crisis by controversially invoking the War Measures Act, the third and last time in Canadian history that the act was brought into force. In addition, Quebec's proposal to negotiate a sovereignty-association agreement with the federal government was overwhelmingly rejected in the 1980 Quebec referendum. In a bid to move the Liberal Party towards economic nationalism, Trudeau's government oversaw the creation of Petro-Canada and launched the National Energy Program; the latter generated uproar in oil-rich Western Canada, leading to what many coined "Western alienation". In other domestic policy, Trudeau pioneered official bilingualism and multiculturalism, fostering a pan-Canadian identity. Trudeau's foreign policy included making Canada more independent; he patriated the Constitution and established the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, actions that achieved full Canadian sovereignty. He formed close ties with the Soviet Union, China, and Cuban leader Fidel Castro, putting him at odds with other capitalist Western nations.

In his retirement, Trudeau practised law at the Montreal law firm of Heenan Blaikie. He also successfully campaigned against the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords (which proposed recognizing Quebec as a "distinct society"), arguing they would strengthen Quebec nationalism. Trudeau died in 2000. He is ranked highly among scholars in rankings of Canadian prime ministers, though some of his policies have been the subject of long-lasting debate. His eldest son, Justin Trudeau, became the 23rd and current prime minister, following the 2015 Canadian federal election; Justin Trudeau is the first prime minister of Canada to be a descendant of a former prime minister.
