TRUMP GOES CHERRY PICKING

 

A war of words broke out between US President Joe Biden and his Republican rival Donald Trump after the former accidentally referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as 'Vice President Trump' in his latest gaffe. Former President Trump mocked Biden for the faux pas during his press conference at a Nato event. “Crooked Joe begins his 'Big Boy' Press Conference with, 'I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.' Great job, Joe!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.Biden, facing mounting criticism over his age and mental fitness to serve a second term in office following last month's feeble performance at the debate with Trump, hit back and asserted that "he knew the difference"."By the way: Yes, I know the difference. One's a prosecutor, and the other's a felon," Biden tweeted, referring to Trump's conviction in a hush money case involving porn star Stormy Daniels.

Te bottom line here is Trump is grasping at straws here to be relevant.

 

CARTWRIGHT EARNS TOP RANKING ON COMMON GROUND SCORECARD FOR WORKING ACROSS PARTY LINES

PA CONGRESSMAN SCORES IN TOP 10% OF ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS FOR FINDING COMMON GROUND WITH COLLEAGUES

Congressman Matt Cartwright has been named a Common Ground Champion on the Common Ground Scorecard for his ongoing efforts to work across party lines on important issues to move the country forward. He has earned a score of 71 out of 110 points, putting him in the Top 10 percent of all elected officials for finding common ground with his colleagues in Congress on both sides of the aisle.

The Common Ground Scorecard is the first-ever measurement tool of elected officials and candidates for office – including U.S. House Members, U.S. Senators and governors. The Scorecard shows on a scale of 0-110 how much these elected officials seek to find common ground with members of the other political party. The 2024 Scorecard, released by Common Ground Committee (CGC), shows that Rep. Cartwright’s score of 71 is 40 points higher than the overall average score of 31.

“Since arriving in Congress, I’ve worked with Democrats and Republicans to get things done. As a result, I’ve introduced more bills with Democratic and Republican support than any other House Democrat since I was first elected. So far, I’ve succeeded in authoring and passing 16 substantive bills into law, signed and enacted by the last three presidents,” Congressman Cartwright said.  “I firmly believe people want their elected leaders to work together in order to do what’s right for our country. I’m committed to working in a bipartisan manner to find areas of common ground on matters that will make a positive difference in the lives of the people I serve, regardless of political affiliation.”

The Common Ground Scorecard was first released prior to the 2020 election and is updated annually by CGC, a nonpartisan, citizen-led organization devoted to improving public discourse in politics. In addition to their commitments and personal actions, CGC also incorporates third-party rankings on bipartisanship and other public sources of data.

“While personal attacks and social media spats in Congress get the most attention, most Americans probably don’t realize there are earnest and dedicated Members like Congressman Matt Cartwright, striving each day to solve the complex problems our country faces,” said Common Ground Committee Co-founder Erik Olsen. “We understand that Americans want their leaders to do the hard work necessary to find areas of agreement when possible, and we applaud Congressman Matt Cartwright for his work seeking out common ground on our country’s toughest challenges.”

, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, and Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) introduced the Capping Prescription Costs Act, which would lower prescription drug costs for millions of Americans. The bill would place annual caps on out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs­­—$2,000 for individuals and $4,000 for families. Casey’s bill builds on the success of the Inflation Reduction Act, which capped prescription drug cost-sharing for Medicare Part D beneficiaries, extending the savings to the commercial health care market.

“Prescription drug costs are like a bag of rocks tied around the necks of millions of Americans, weighing them down every single day,” said Chairman Casey. “My new bill will place a cap on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for Americans with private insurance, building on the success of the Inflation Reduction Act and lightening the load that has been weighing down Americans for far too long.”

“Long before I came to the U.S. Senate, I was fighting to make health care more affordable and accessible. Struggling families shouldn’t have to skip refills, ration prescriptions, and risk their health just to afford the medications they need to survive,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “In a nation as rich and powerful as the United States that should never be the case, so I’m proud to join Senator Casey to introduce the Capping Prescription Costs Act that will help families afford the prescriptions they need to live healthy, full, independent lives.”

Over 60 percent of American adults take at least one prescription drug, with 25 percent of adults taking four or more. Yet Americans often pay more for the same prescription drugs than people in other countries, and due to the cost burden, American patients often cannot afford their medications as prescribed. This results in patients skipping doses, cutting doses in half, or taking over-the-counter medications instead of their prescriptions. One study found that 31 percent of patients did not take their medications as prescribed due to cost.

Chairman Casey has long been a leader in the Senate’s efforts to bring down prescription drug costs. In August 2022, Casey fought to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to lower health care and prescription drug costs for older adults, people with disabilities, and families across the Nation. Starting in January 2023, the IRA capped the cost of insulin for Medicare Part D beneficiaries at $35 a month for certain covered insulin products. The law also will limit Medicare beneficiaries’ out-of-pocket costs at $2,000 per year beginning in 2025.

Casey’s new bill will extend that out-of-pocket cost cap to the commercial health care market. The new $2,000 cap on cost-sharing for individuals and $4,000 for families will apply to all of the 173 million Americans who have private health insurance.

Governor Shapiro Signs Bipartisan 2024-25 Budget, Investing in Economic Development, K-12 and Higher Education, and Public Safety to Create Freedom and Opportunity for All Pennsylvanians

Governor Josh Shapiro signed into law a bipartisan budget for fiscal year 2024-25 that delivers on his top priorities and creates more freedom and opportunity for all Pennsylvanians. With historic investments in education, economic development, law enforcement and violence prevention, workforce development, affordable housing, health care, public transit and infrastructure, and much more - this budget invests in the people of Pennsylvania and solves some of the most pressing issues our Commonwealth faces.

Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation with a divided legislature, but Governor Shapiro has proven once again that he can work with both parties to get stuff done and deliver real results for Pennsylvanians. After proposing an ambitious budget that invests in Pennsylvanians in February, the final product is a result of hard work and compromise from all sides, and it follows through on the Governor's promises to Pennsylvanians.

Britain's MusicBox begins satellite transmission to Europe…..Government orders air bags or seat belts would be required in cars by 1989…… Lucas Mangope re-elected president of Bophuthatswana… Mangope  was the leader of the Bantustan (homeland) of Bophuthatswana. The territory he ruled over was distributed between the Orange Free State – what is now Free State – and North West Province. He was also the founder and leader of the United Christian Democratic Party, a political party based in the North West of South Africa. He became President in 1977, when Bophuthatswana was declared independent by the South African government. On 10 February 1988 he was briefly overthrown by members of a military police unit, led by Rocky Malebane-Metsing of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), who had accused Mangope of corruption and charged that the recent election had been rigged in the government's favour. Mangope was reinstated following intervention by the South African Defence Force. South Africa's government stated that it was responding to a request for assistance from the legal government of a sovereign nation….. A car bomb set off by the military wing of the ANC, explodes in Durban South Africa killing 5 and injuring 27 people….. Geraldine Ferraro becomes the 1st US female major-party vice-presidential candidate, after Walter Mondale selects her as his Democratic Party running mate… When Walter Mondale announced Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate during the 1984 presidential campaign, the three-term New York Congresswoman called the historic choice a "powerful signal" to all Americans. “There are no doors we cannot unlock. We will place no limits on achievement. If we can do this, we can do anything,” Ferraro said July 19, 1984, during her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco…..The first woman to be named a vice-presidential candidate for a major party, Ferraro, who died in 2011 at age 75 from complications due to multiple myeloma, remains one of three women, along with Republican Sarah Palin, in 2008, and Democrat Kamala Harris, in 2020, to receive such a nomination…

When I worked at WVIA FM I did a weekend program called “Afternoon With Ormandy”….in baseball news  Harmon Killibrew,  Don Drysdale and Luis Aparicio were  inducted into the baseball hall of fame….and forty years ago today the number 1 song in LuLac land and America was “JUMP (For My Love)”  by The Pointer Sisters.
