WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

NO KING RALLIES

DRAW CROWDS

Commissioner Bill Gaughan addresses the crowd.

No kings."

That was the fundamental sentiment shared by protestors across the U.S. on Saturday, including in Northeast and Central Pennsylvania.

Rallies in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre drew over a thousand people between them to march during what activist groups dubbed “No Kings Day,” organizers said.

The demonstrations were in response to the American military parade requested by President Donald Trump to honor the Army’s 250th anniversary on what also was the president’s 79th birthday and Flag Day.

But the demonstrators also took aim at the Trump administration's broader policies, including increased immigration enforcement, proposed cuts to social service funding, and moves to curtail rights for women and LGBTQA+ communities.

"I am appalled by what's going on in our country today, in so many respects," said Scranton resident Elizabeth Field, a U.S. Army veteran who is disabled.

No Kings Day rallies also were held in Lewisburg, Bloomsburg, Williamsport, Tunkhannock and Honesdale.

People of all ages waved American flags — some held upside down, a distress signal sometimes used by sailors.

Many who spoke with WVIA say they believe democracy is at risk.

MEANWHILE IN WILKES-BARRE

MAGA SNOWFLAKES

IN WILKES-BARRE

SAY PROTESTORS

DON’T LOVE AMERICA

T.J. Fitzgerald, convicted drug dealer and chair of the NEPA Republicans came out in a red jacket saying that the protestors were paid, they GOP has no intention of cutting Medicaid and that the good people trying to save these MAGA morons from themselveswere paid. Fitzgerald said they needed to stop the lies.

Here’s the thing T.J., and your paltry band of compatriots, your attempts to drown out thousands of people on the Square failed miserably.

They not only LOVE AMERICA, THEY LOVE DEMOCRACY

Which you and your MAGA snowflakes are enabling the Trumpanzees to destroy, (WVIA Kat Boluis, LuLac)

COLD BLOODED KILLER

TARGETED DEMS

IN THIS COUNTRY

The suspect accused of fatally shooting a Minnesota lawmaker and wounding another has been charged with multiple counts of murder after authorities took him into custody, ending the largest manhunt in the state's history, authorities said.

Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was arrested Sunday night in rural Sibley County, about 50 miles away from Minneapolis, after he surrendered to law enforcement in a wooded area near his home.

Boelter is accused of carrying out what Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called a "politically motivated assassination." Police say he posed as a police officer on June 14 and fatally shot state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their home in Brooklyn Park. He also shot and wounded State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at their home a few miles away.

This is a disturbing part of society that is getting all too common. The demonization of the political process has now reverted to the old west. We are heartened by the fact that President Trump condemned this violence and hope the malcontents take note.

This WAS NOT a spur of the  moment attack, this was well planned and targeted solely toward Democrats. If there is an insanity defense brought up in this, it should be summarily dismissed.

Also, the motives of the attack are still unknown. According to Boelter's roommate and friend, David Carlson, he was a "strong supporter" of President Donald Trump. Videos are making their rounds of Boelter preaching about sexuality in Central Africa. Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Minnesota declined to share Boelter's voter data in the presidential primary, citing privacy concerns.

MAGA REPUBLICAN THUG SENATOR WEIGHS IN

PEE WEE LEE

SPREADS, CONFIRMS

HATE

"This is what happens...When Marxists don't get their way," Senator Mike Pee Wee Lee posted on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a photo of Boelter wearing what appears to be a latex face mask.

Why It Matters

President Donald Trump—as well as several Republicans—has long used the label "Marxist," or also "communists," to describe Democrats. Experts who study political messaging have said the term is inaccurate and dangerous as it risks fueling political polarization in the country.

Police said they had uncovered anotebook with an apparent target list naming Democratic officials, abortion providers as well as civic and business leaders, The New York Times reported. A state report in 2016 listed Boelter's political affiliation as "none or other," and another report in 2020 listed him as having "no party preference," according to The New York Times. Voters do not declare political affiliation when they register in Minnesota.

TRUMP PARADE

STATS

About 60,000 there.

Water but no cups.

One security entrance, 5 others closed.

Protesters stationed near the celebration of the Army’s 250th birthday — which coincided with Trump’s 79th — chanted as fireworks exploded overhead.

Protesters held signs including “Thank you Army shame on you Trump” and “Stop the fascist now” with a Palestinian flag being waved by one.

T.J. Fitzgerald was right about people being paid to attend, but it wasn't in NEPA but in D.C.
