This week we present a letter from a Times Leader edition that explains (in his estimation) why people picked Trump.
WHY DID VOTERS GO WITH TRUMP?
Many of us wonder why Trump was re-elected knowing this is what he did during first term: 2.7 million lost jobs; trade deficit increased; federal deficit increased from $14.4 T to $21.6T; murder rate increased; indicted four times; guilty of nepotism; called John McCain a “loser” for being caught.
Maybe they voted for him because he promised to end the Ukraine war on day one? That did not happen. Maybe because he promised peace between Israel and Hamas? That hasn’t happened. Maybe because he promised to carry out the largest mass deportation in history? Minimal and without due process. Maybe because he promised to end “birthright citizenship”? Someone should have told him it is in our Constitution. Maybe because he said tariffs would create jobs and not cause inflation? Wrong! Maybe because he promised to reduce inflation, like the cost of eggs? Our food bills are still very high. Maybe because he promised to make government more efficient? It must be done with a scalpel, not a chain saw. Not even close to the $2T savings promised. But always enough money to give his millionaire buddies a tax break.
Back in 1933 the Germans gave Hitler full control, but they were suffering from a depression. Trump was elected for a second term, even though inflation dropped to 2.9% in 2024, unemployment was only 4% and the Dow Jones was at a record high level.
Hard to understand what Trump’s voters based their decision on. Maybe his promises?
