THE BIG

BEAUTIFUL BILL

EVERYBODY

HATES !

LOSERS

11 million people gone from Medicaid

Cutbacks in SNAP

Those making less than $50,000 a year hurt

People with student loan debt

A higher deficit

Undocumented immigrants

Cut health services to staff in rural areas

This is making America an unfair country. Why? Get a load of THIS! The bill would lock in corporate tax breaks and give big benefits to wealthy households, including bigger deductions for property taxes and estates worth up to $15 million. But it would also lead to deep Medicaid cuts, costing millions of low-income Americans their health coverage.

The bill would make us an unhealthy and ignorant less aspirational nation.

When all this kicks in, people in lower income groups will resort to crime to feed their families.

THE

HILLBILLY

CASTS

DECIDING

VOTE

NPR reports Senate Republicans have passed President Trump's signature domestic policy bill, setting the stage for a final vote in the House on legislation that would cut trillions of dollars in taxes while scaling back spending on Medicaid, food assistance and clean energy programs.

It was reported yesterday that 49% of the people on Medicaid voted for Trump. I am tempted to say, well you got what you deserve. Well I just did so here goes. You supported someone and their party who just gleefully screwed you over. Do you think they were thinking of YOUR NEEDS when they were trying to save their tax breaks for the billionaires? You not only screwed yourselves but the 47% who voted for Harris. When you have to go on Facebook and start a go fund me or have a benefit hoagies sale to help your aged parent or disabled child….I’m sure your Trump party will be first in line to help you.

The final vote was 51-50 with Vice President JD Vance breaking a tie. Three Republicans broke ranks and voted against the bill: Susan Collins of Maine, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Kentucky's Rand Paul. The bill now heads to the House, where some GOP lawmakers are already signaling major objections.

Tuesday's vote capped weeks of contentious negotiations between fiscal hawks who wanted deeper spending cuts, and a handful of other Republicans who expressed concerns that cuts in the bill could have deep impacts across the country.

In the meantime, Republicans in the House and Senate must agree on identical versions of the plan before sending the legislation to Trump for his signature. The Senate version may not satisfy the many divided factions of the narrow GOP majority in the House.  But you can be sure they will crumple like all the GOP sycophant Senators worried about their own ass instead of their voters.

LISA MURKOWSKI??

REALLY?

This one takes the cake. Senior Lisa Murkowski  labeled the process that brought her to vote for the GOP’s gargantuan tax and spending package “agonizing” and said she hopes more is done to improve the bill, including through both the Senate and House going to conference to finalize it.

Murkowski told reporters after the vote that she “struggled mightily” with the impact cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could have on vulnerable populations.

Struggling mightily my ass. She is a disgrace and somewhere Margaret Chase Smith, a Republican of honor is crying for her Republic and her Senate.

But in the end, she said “Fuck ‘em! Like always, she “tutt tuuted” clutcheed her pearls and feigned horror but in the end, like always, she planted one firmly on Trump’s butt. I’m reminded of a Winston Churchill quote when asked by a woman, “What kind of woman do you think I am?”

His response was, “We’ve already established that. Now we’re just haggling over the price.”

“Agonizing?”

BULLSHIT

LISA

RACISM ON DISPLAY

FROM HICK SENATOR

A constant of the Trump administration is that racists now are front and center in spewing their hate. Tommy Tubberville is a perfect example. The good news, this ignorant illiterate slimeball is NOT running for the Senate. The bad news he’s running for Governor. In an attempt to play to the low IQs in ‘Bama, Tommy said this:

Tuberville was asked if President Donald Trump should cut off funding to large ‘sanctuary’ cities that attract immigrants. ‘You can stop the federal funding,’ Tuberville said. ‘President Trump can do anything he wants when it comes to the federal. Again, these inner-city rats, they live off the federal government. And that’s one reason we’re $37 trillion in debt.’

I can’t understand why this guy even coached football with his obvious hatred of people of color. Inner city rats? Yeah, like Alabama and his ilk should talk.

FETTERMAN WANTS

TO “GO HOME

John Fetterman made the news again this week and it has continued a pattern that is troubling. As a supporter of him in ’22 I was warned by smarter political minds than mine that he was a “wild card” and was a climber, not necessarily a worker. Like many others I disregarded the option to support the more traditional Connor Lamb. After his stroke, I like others stood by him as he defeated Dr. Oz. When he took office and had to go to treatment, again he was supported and defended by those voters who were with him.

But this recent comment that he felt this debate over the big bill was moot is tone deaf. Sure he’s going to side with his Democratic brethren and sure the GOP will fell into line with the Trump give to the rich, take from the poor agenda. But he has no respect for the process.

There is such a thing as a historical record. Senators in the Democratic party  are  making the case  to  weed the fat  from the GOP megabill in the ongoing vote-a-rama, Sen. John Fetterman just wanted the process over with already.  I can guarantee you most of the Senators feel the same way. But they aren’t (dumb, selfish or stupid-"take your pick to admit it in public.

“Oh my God, I just want to go home,”  he told reporters on Monday. “I’ve already missed our entire trip to the beach… I’m going to vote no. There’s no drama.”

Well you see Senator there is drama.  This administration is hellbent on reshaping America for the worse, not the better. While other Senators are decrying the cuts to Medicaid, you are giving up. A friendly reminder Senator, more people facing cuts against Medicare voted for you than your opponent. They trusted you to do the most basic thing in any job, WORK!

One day John Fetterman will get his wish. He’ll have plenty o time to enjoy the beach when voters throw him out.

BRESNAHAN ANNOUNCES OVER $11 MILLION FOR LOCAL HEAD START PROGRAMS, CONTINUES PUSH FOR STRONG FEDERAL SUPPORT

Congressman Rob Bresnehan (Photo: LuLac archives)

Like his predecessor Matt Cartwright, U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (PA-08) announced over $11 million in federal funding for Head Start programs in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties. The grants will help provide early childhood education, healthcare, nutrition, and family support services to children and families across the region.

“Head Start programs give kids the boost they need for a strong start in life,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “This next generation will take us to the 22nd century, and it is critical to provide them with every resource we have at our disposal to help them succeed. These grants are a significant step in supporting children and families across our region.”

The grant awards include $6,010,135 for Luzerne County Head Start, Inc., and $5,259,873 for the Agency for Community EmPOWERment of NEPA.

Rep. Bresnahan has been a consistent supporter of Head Start. Earlier this year, he signed a Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations letter calling for robust federal funding to keep these programs strong.

“Prioritizing early education, especially for our young children and families that traditionally lack those resources, is one of the smartest investments we can make,” continued Rep. Bresnahan. “I’ll keep working to make sure families in Northeastern Pennsylvania have access to the tools and resources they need.”

Head Start provides critical services for children from birth to age five, focusing on families with the greatest need. The program supports school readiness and gives children access to health screenings, meals, and family support services.

FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY ADVANCES MEUSER’S ACCESS ACT OF 2025

Representative Dan Meuser (Photo: LuLac archives)

In a 51-0 vote yesterday, the House Financial Services Committee approved H.R. 3645, the Amendment for Crowdfunding Capital Enhancement and Small-Business Support Act of 2025 (“ACCESS Act”), authored by Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-09). The bipartisan vote propels the measure to the full House floor, marking a significant step toward modernizing Regulation CF and expanding access to capital for America’s smallest businesses.

The ACCESS Act:

  • Cuts red tape for entrepreneurs. It raises the threshold at which companies must obtain a costly financial-statement review by a public accountant from $100,000 to $250,000.
  • Builds in flexibility. The bill lets the Securities and Exchange Commission bump that figure as high as $400,000 when recommended by the Offices of the Investor Advocate and Small Business Capital Formation Advocate, ensuring the rule keeps pace with inflation and marketplace realities.

Rep. Dan Meuser: “America’s entrepreneurs shouldn’t have to choose between raising the capital they need and paying accountants more than they plan to raise. The ACCESS Act updates outdated thresholds so the next great neighborhood brewery, tech start-up, or Main Street retailer can spend its first dollars on growth—not paperwork.”

Chairman French Hill: “Under Mr. Meuser's bill, issuers using crowdfunding exemption will only be required to file financial statements to be reviewed by an independent accountant for offerings over $250,000, as opposed to that current threshold of $100,000. I commend Mr. Meuser for drafting a bill that surgically right-sizes our security laws to lessen the burdens on those small businesses raising small amounts of capital.”

Subcommittee on Capital Markets Chairman Ann Wager: “For many small businesses, regulation crowdfunding, or Reg CF, is the only realistic path for raising early-stage capital outside of friends and family. Unfortunately, the structure of the current rules often treats these micro-issuers like they're conducting multi-million-dollar offerings, and that is simply a mismatch, said The ACCESS Act makes a simple but important change. It updates the financial statement review threshold to better reflect the modest size and risk profile of most Reg CF offerings. This is not about rolling back investor protections. It's about right-sizing clients to fit the scale of capital being raised. When regulatory costs exceed 10% of the funds an entrepreneur is trying to raise, the rules aren't serving anyone, not issuers, not investors who want to access early-stage deals.”

Next Steps

Following today’s committee approval, H.R. 3645 heads to the House floor, where Rep. Meuser will seek swift passage.

Background

Regulation CF, created by the JOBS Act of 2012, allows everyday investors to back early-stage companies online. Yet many start-ups remain below the current $100,000 financial-review threshold, forcing them to choose between expensive compliance or forgoing crowdfunding altogether. The ACCESS Act updates the dollar amounts for the first time in over a decade and gives the SEC an on-ramp to adjust them in the future, ensuring the rule scales with the economy while maintaining robust investor safeguards.

SHAPIRO ADMINISTRATION HIGHLIGHTS DEVASTATING IMPACTS OF PROPOSED FEDERAL MEDICAID CUTS ON RURAL COMMUNITIES AND COVERAGE FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PENNSYLVANIANS

Governor Josh Shapiro (Photo: LuLac archives)

Proposed Medicaid cuts in Congressional Republicans' budget bill would have devastating impacts on Pennsylvania's health care system. Shapiro Administration officials joined rural health leaders at Wayne Memorial Hospital to express concerns about the devastating effects of the proposed cuts on rural Pennsylvanians and health care providers.

"The proposed changes to the Medicaid program would have grave consequences for health care across Pennsylvania, from hospitals to individuals in both urban and rural communities," said Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen. "When people do not have health insurance, they are forced to forego preventive care and rely on emergency care. This, in turn, leads not only to worse health outcomes, but also increases uncompensated health care services, increases insurance premiums, and increases health care costs for all Pennsylvanians - on top of contributing to overcrowded emergency rooms."

Currently, proposed changes to Medicaid could strip health coverage from more than 300,000 Pennsylvanians, drive up health care costs, and put rural hospitals out of business.

But the impact of the current federal proposal doesn't end there. The bill fails to extend enhanced premium tax credits available to Pennsylvanians who purchase health insurance through Pennie, Pennsylvania's official health insurance marketplace. These tax credits have made coverage more affordable than ever, and if they expire on schedule at the end of this year, it will also risk health insurance for an additional 270,000 Pennsylvanians, adding to the risk to hospitals and an increase in our rates of uninsured and/or uncompensated care.

200th BICENTENNIAL

July 4th, 1976

The United States Bicentennial was a series of celebrations and observances during the mid-1970s that paid tribute to historical events leading up to the creation of the United States as an independent republic. It was a central event in the memory of the American Revolution. The Bicentennial culminated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, with the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Founding Fathers in the Second Continental Congress.

The nation had always commemorated the founding as a gesture of patriotism and sometimes as an argument in political battles. Historian Jonathan Crider points out that in the 1850s, editors and orators both North and South claimed their region was the true custodian of the legacy of 1776, as they used the Revolution symbolically in their rhetoric.

The plans for the Bicentennial began when Congress created the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission on July 4, 1966.Initially, the Bicentennial celebration was planned as a single city exposition (titled Expo '76) that would be staged in either Philadelphia or Boston. After 6½ years of tumultuous debate, the Commission recommended that there should not be a single event, and Congress dissolved it on December 11, 1973, and created the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration (ARBA), which was charged with encouraging and coordinating locally sponsored events. David Ryan, a professor at University College Cork, notes that the Bicentennial was celebrated only a year after the Fall of Saigon in 1975 and that the Ford administration stressed the themes of renewal and rebirth based on a restoration of traditional values, giving a nostalgic and exclusive reading of the American past.

The official Bicentennial events began April 1, 1975, when the American Freedom Train launched in Wilmington, Delaware to start its 21-month, 25,388-mile (40,858 km) tour of the 48 contiguous states.[18]

On April 18, 1975, President Gerald Ford traveled to Boston to light a third lantern at the historic Old North Church, symbolizing America's third century.  The following day, April 19, he delivered a major address in Concord, Massachusetts at the Old North Bridge where the "shot heard round the world" was fired, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord which began the military aspect of the American Revolution. According to the New York Times "more than 2,000 spectators were on hand" as cannons were fired and a Paul Revere reenactor rode through announcing the arrival of British Troops.

On December 31, 1975, the eve of the Bicentennial Year, Ford recorded a statement to address the American people by means of radio and television broadcasts.[22] Presidential Proclamation 4411 was signed as an affirmation to the Founding Fathers of the United States principles of dignity, equality, government by representation, and liberty.

1976 festivities included elaborate fireworks in the skies above major US cities. President Ford presided over the display in Washington, D.C., which was televised nationally. Celebrations in cities and towns across the nation opened into full effect including celebrations such as Operation Sail (Op Sail), a large international fleet parade of tall-masted sailing ships gathering first in New York City on Independence Day and then in Boston about one week later. Other large scale events such as reenactments, parades, and booms in commercialized commemoration spread across the nation as the year went on.

Locally I was on a Bicentennial committee as a representative of WVIA FM. There were many events chronicling the history of America in both Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Mayor Gene Hickey of Scranton, Bob Loftus of Pittston, Walter Lisman of Wilkes-Barre and James Turnbach of Hazleton oversaw events in their respective hometowns.

My great memory of the Bicentennial was being in the control room at WVIA FM visiting. The 4th of July was on a Sunday, and this was the Saturday the 3rd . As the clock struck midnight, on July 4th, my coworker John Kelly who had the overnight weekend shift, opened up the mic on  America’s 200th birthday with this line. “ Happy 200th birthday from WVIA FM America. My name is John Kelly and I am a native son.” He then proceeded to play Arlo Guthrie’s “City of New Orleans”  It may sound silly or sentimental, but I still get tears in my eyes when I remember it.
